I loved my stay here. It was a rainy day, check-in was quick and easy, no holds at the desk. The room was perfect: Clean, private, excellent view of the water, modern and super spacious. The staff was exceptional and I felt so welcomed. Besides staying at the Wynn or Caesars Palace in Vegas, this Hilton in the bayside has been a perfect stay. I did everything I needed to do on my trip to San Diego, everything was walking distance and the amenities of this Hilton were just perfect. Again, I arrived on a rainy and windy day, so I didn't want to leave the hotel after arrival. Not a problem, the food and bar are excellent. I had a delicious Salmon with risotto, accompanied with a cocktail and later a glass of wine. I can't wait to return and enjoy the same experience again.

I have. It had a bad stay at a Hilton like I had at this one. Much of it was miscommunication but could have been avoided. For the amount they charge to stay here, along with it being only valet parking and charging almost 50 dollars for that as well, the service and experience here was not worth it for me. Upon checking in, it was not disclosed that there is no daily replenishments of towels, shampoo, etc..without a 24 hour in advance request. Breakfast opened up and we grabbed plates only for signs to be put up to be told it costs 20 dollars per person after we already had our food, and not once but on two different occasions, the water shut completely off while we were using the shower. I addressed this issue after the first time it happened with the front desk and had no follow up relayed from them and then next day it happened again. It’s unfortunate that I have to write this review but people need to hear the bad as well as the good.

The bartenders and servers at dinner the night we ate there were amazing and helpful and the food is pretty good!

In general, the hotel is good. Location is super (Bayside close to Little Italy, literally 5 minutes walk from the Green Line station which makes exploring the city car-free very convenient). The hotel is modern and not outdated. It is very clean and the reception is very nice and responsive.

However, there is one important issue and one thing that really pissed me off about this hotel.

First the important issue: the quality of your stay depends on the room you choose. Some rooms are hovering the railway tracks and should be avoided, for example, room 617 on the 6th floor. Those rooms that face the yard are very quiet (644, for example).

The thing that pissed me off was their constant “deposits”. Get this: my room was prepaid (I paid for it months ahead), yet I had to provide a $200 cash deposit and in the middle of my stay $50 were suddenly blocked on my card. As I was explained, Hilton does so when they “feel” the first deposit is not enough. Not enough for what, I wonder? I hope this “feeling” has some legal grounds. Sadly, if Hilton had not have that “feeling”, my stay would have been perfect.

In all over respects I had a lovely stay. I liked their welcome bites and complimentary coffe in the morning. Very warming. The public area design is gorgeous. Lot of air and light.

Dear Elle_Ventrouge, We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our location and complimentary coffee and welcome bites during your recent stay! I want to assure you that every guest that stays at our property is required to put down a $50 room deposit per day, similar to many Hilton hotels. Normally we do not take cash deposits, but since you did not have a credit card we made an exception for you and your family. The $50 credit card deposit was initiated by our Night Auditing process when your room balance exceeded a certain amount. We apologize that our deposits had an effect on your stay. We hope you find a hotel in the San Diego area that better suits your needs the next time you are in town. Thank you,

No Parking and had walk over mile back to hotel from nearest parking lot thru areas with homeless people. Shuttle should be provided if onsite lot full which now been told is frequent occurance.

Refrigerator in room didn’t work and the loud vibrations from roof top units in 6th floor room. Fortunately front desk graciously relocated to much cleaner and sanitized sealed room which the original 6th flr room didn’t have.

Breakfast buffet mediocre, expected fresh breakfast since provided meal ticket but restaurant not open.

I booked two rooms for my family for one night on Thursday, Dec. 16. My boyf and I arrived the earliest, so after grabbing breakfast nearby, we went to the hotel around 10:30 a.m. and they were able to let us check into both of our rooms early.

Location: Less than 5 minutes to the airport, which is super convenient. It's in the Little Italy area, so you can walk to tons of restaurants and bars (we went to Mikkeller beer bar twice). Because it's in a busy area, parking at the hotel is valet only and is close to $50. However, I was able to get street parking every time (just check the signs!). Hawthorn Street always had parking and you can park overnight (and there are no meters between California and Pacific Hwy, so technically free!). There is also street parking on Pacific Hwy across the street from the hotel. Weekends might be a little harder, but definitely doable!

Rooms: Comfortable beds and soft linens. When my boyf was showering in the morning, the water flow fluctuated a lot and even went to a trickle for like 30 secs. They knew about it, because I heard someone else mention something when we were checking out. I didn't have an issue earlier in the morning, but maybe more people were showering at the same time?

-My sister's room had a sink that wasn't draining properly, but when we went out for the afternoon, they were able to fix it while we were out.

Service: Everyone we interacted with was really nice and helpful. They had good tips for restaurants, etc.

Overall, this is a good hotel in a great location. I wish I could've stayed at this hotel the rest of our trip, but we moved to a different location for a wedding.

I don't understand people who are surprised about parking fees or the hotel not including breakfast. The parking fee is clearly listed on the website and Hilton Garden Inns don't offer complimentary breakfast (that's Hampton Inn).

I booked this property for my wife and her friends who had an early flight the next day. They got to the hotel and tried to park in the open lot, but were told there were no parking spots because "they were all reserved" and that she should go "find street parking" (this is not a street parking area).
The description on Expedia said there is a sofa bed in the room. We also called the property ahead of time to double check this was the case (NOT the call center, the property itself!) I just double checked that this was the case. There was no sofa bed in the room and the accommodation was not as described, which was a major inconvenience. The desk clerk was extremely snippy and rude, did not take time to understand the situation at all. She said "I can't do anything for you" and "maybe you should go find another hotel."
Obviously you can't make a larger room appear out of thin air, but we are not bunking in her personal residence, we are paying to stay there, and should be treated with respect and understanding. WE certainly did not write the incorrect description! And someone on property verified the room will have the extra bed!
Very disappointing experience from an otherwise nice property - service needs a MAJOR boost.

Spent 5 nights here with my family. Good location with views of the bay (if you happen to get a room with a window that faces the bay) and walking distance to Little Italy. Nice lobby area with large lounging areas with firepits, a ping pong table and a foosball table. There is an on-site restaurant but they're only open for breakfast (which is not included) and they were closed one day during our stay. There's a pool and hot tub though the hot tub was not hot despite repeated requests to management to bump up the temp. There's also a gym/fitness room with a few treadmills and some free weights, etc. The room was nothing special and the view was to the opposing wall. It was quiet and there was a microwave and mini fridge. I saw a sign that said parking was a crazy $45 per day but we had a special AAA deal so we didn't have to pay parking. BTW, there's no self-parking, it's valet only. Overall it's a decent hotel but for the price I expected breakfast to be included at least.

I will provide additional information on a letter I will be addressing to Hilton corporate. But in summary, I was laughed at when I asked to have my parking validated or comped after being sent to park at an airport parking structure because the hotel parking/ valet was at full capacity. Front officer Manager Evelyn B. is very unprofessional and cultures rude employees that do not fit the expectations of the standards of Hilton hospitality experience. You will pay 300 dollars on a night for a standard room just so they can give you the cold shoulder and laugh at you while you pour your dollars at this establishment. Never again will I stay at San Diego Hilton Garden Inn Bayside/ Downtown.

Unhelpful rude staff. They charged parking to my room, when I talked to them to correct their mistake I was told that they would "waive" that for me. I asked them how they would waive parking when I had no car at the hotel. Breakfast was included in their ads when I booked the hotel, but they claimed that breakfast was not included when I got there. You have to "book" room service 24 hours in advance. There are better places for about the same price in the same area. Avoid this hotel.

I called to confirm the rooms we had booked at this property which we had stayed at before. One side is Hilton Garden Inn the other Homewood Suites. When I called I was assured we had a room for 5 with three beds and full breakfast was included. When we arrived they had us confirmed us at the other side, with only double rooms and breakfast was $10 PER PERSON. This $10 Breakfast consisted of mini boxes of Raisin Bran with no milk, stale bread, and empty orange juice containers and coffee containers. There were open flames hidden behind the dishes and food - heating elements for chafing dishes that weren't there. On the Homewood side there is a full breakfast, both share a lobby but the Hilton side must pay for breakfast. We were given breakfast coupons for the errors in reservation but when we arrived home both rooms were charged $50 and over $100 for the "breakfast" even with the coupons. One of our kids ended up sleeping on the floor because they could not provide a roll away or move us to the family room. They subsequently checked in another couple into the family room who arrived that same day and did not have a reservation for it. We had been repeat customers of Hilton and this hotel and will not stay there again.

Answer from nsaul2021

I haven't needed to receive a package before my check-in, but I have had zero problems sending packages to co-workers who are staying at Hilton properties all over the country, with the packages arriving as much as a week before my co-workers check in. As long as you can notify the hotel/front desk ahead of time and you're on their books, I'm 99.9% sure there won't be any problems.
