Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at The Carnegie Hotel. From check-in to check-out, the hotel was everything we needed.

The room: Our room was on the second floor, facing the street; however, it was not noisy. The room itself was on the smaller side, but had plenty of space to store luggage, including under the bed. The closet was tight, but still quite useable. Not once did I feel crowded with two people in the room. The bathroom was just what we needed, with a fantastic rain shower head. The entire room was spotless.

The staff: Everyone we encountered from the front desk to the dining area were pleasant and helpful. We felt bad for the breakfast attendant who bore the brunt of unnecessary complaints from people regarding the toaster, but they handled it very professionally.

The amenities: The hotel happily accepts deliveries. The breakfast was simple, but excellent. The hotel provides toiletries, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. The wine and cheese in the early evening was really quite lovely after a day of sightseeing.

The location: It really can't be beat. Close to Central Park, Times Square, Metro stations. The subway system was quite efficient and got us from the airport to the hotel in about an hour, with a stop just two blocks away.

The Carnegie Hotel is a perfectly fine boutique hotel in an excellent location.

We were so impressed with this hotel. The location is perfect for all your sight seeing in NYC and the service from the employees is above and beyond. They’re so friendly and attentive. The rooms are small but that’s true of most hotels in NYC. It was so well appointed despite its size. There are plug-ins everywhere and there’s a full length mirror next to the desk so that I could do my hair and makeup while my husband was showering. The room was super clean and the bed and bedding were comfortable. There is a ton of drawer space for clothing. When the windows are closed, you can’t really hear the street noise (we were on the 10th floor) and there were only 4 rooms on our floor so it really is a small boutique hotel. Breakfast was simple and carb heavy: muffins, bagels, cereal, pastries, but they have yogurt and some fruit. Hard boiled eggs and cheese would have been a nice and simple addition. All the food was individually wrapped for sanitary purposes. Juices, coffees and teas are available 24/7 and there are snacks available for free at any time. We didn’t get to partake of the wine and cheese hour. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.

We were looking online for a hotel within walking distance of Lincoln Center and discovered the Carnegie Hotel, which we had never heard of. On previous visits we had stayed at a number of hotels in the Carnegie Hall area. On the basis of great reviews, we decided to try the Carnegie Hotel, and we're certainly glad we did. We'll be back for sure. Turns out this hotel is only four years old. Rooms and public areas are not spacious, but they are imaginatively, efficiently designed so that one does not feel cramped at all. For example, electrical outlets are plentiful and available on all walls. Built in desk has wonderful cubbies to place all the paraphernalia one accrues when traveling. The desk area housing the desk chair is cut away so that one can easily and safely get around the bed. AC thermostat is easy to operate, and worked exceptionally well. Once I figured out how to use the shower (took some time!), it worked great too. Breakfast buffet was basic but very good. Excellent coffee. Staff was extraordinarily pleasant and helpful. Access driving east on W. 56th was easy. Parking garage with affordable rates was right next door. (We parked first, then checked in.). This is a first-class operation. Great value.

First and foremost, my experience with Carnegie Hotel started when I called to confirm details of our stay. The people who work at the hotel are so gracious, professional and of course helpful. I could hardly wait to meet them.
Second check in was a breeze and our request for a quiet room was accommodated. The room was large for a New York Hotel, we could easily move around the bed and there were several places for suitcases including a large space under the bed.
The pillows were perfect and the bed comfortable.
We both slept quite well.
The bathroom had enough space for both of our toiletry bags, a real plus!
There was a safe in the room which we appreciated. Also, there was a refrigerator with several bottles of complimentary water.
But wait, at 5pm daily there was complimentary wine, cheese and snack hour. It was fun because it gave us a chance to meet some new friends!
Oh no that's not all - There was a lovely complimentary breakfast every day, which included a prepared cheese omelet, cereals, fruit, yogurt, pastries, breads, English muffins and bagels. All prepackaged, but yummy none the less.
And you thought that was all, oh no there was a 24 hour coffee machine that made all kinds of coffee, from cappuccino to latte, black, etc and hot water for teas, (which were provided). And the coffee was really quite good. And there's more, there was also a 24 hour juice machine - fruit, apple and orange juice.

And then there was the location - perfect. We walked to Central Park, 42nd street, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim and a number of restaurants. Although I did not find out what the dancing shrimp in the restaurant across the street were. (haha)

We got great recommendations for things to see and do and enjoyed meeting all of the
very personable happy staff whom we met. What a great place.
Don't wait too long as there are only 67 rooms and they fill up fast, how could they not with all the great benefits and friendly, helpful staff.

Excellent location across the street from Carnegie hall. Efficient check in and easy access 4 the street if you are taking Uber/Lyft.

Rooms small but extremely clean. Weird cameras in your face pointing into your room in the elevator and from hallway, but I guess that it is for security.

They do charge the daily "resort fee" and give you a wine happy hour and some free cheese and popcorn snacks for your $23 or so per day. Not remotely worth it but numerous hotels in NYC area do this.

Would stay again - good value for the money and friendly staff.

Great midtown location. The room was small, but typical for NYC. There were only four rooms on the floor, so it was very quiet. Modern, comfortable amenities. There's no restaurant in the hotel, but they offer "free" snacks all day long. Check-in and check-out was very easy.

This is a new hotel (2016) so it is clean, modern and well designed. It is a narrow building of 20 floors with 6 rooms per floor. Good elevator. It is less expensive than most of the hotels in the area. I considered it to be a very good value. The location is right across the street from Carnegie Hall stage door. It is close to subways.

Bathrooms are excellent and the bed was very good.

The staff were, without exception, friendly, attentive and helpful. For example, they were instrumental in finding a taxi service that took us to Newark Airport early on a Sunday morning. Elijah was especially welcoming and helpful. The manager was often present and always ready to assist.

Breakfast was included. Also included was a wine and cheese reception from 5-6 pm daily. Coffee, other drinks and snacks were always available.

Of course, being in Manhattan, the rooms are small. These rooms are typical for hotels in Manhattan, including rooms at bigger hotels that can be much more expensive.

If I have to stay in Manhattan again, I would consider no other options but the Carnegie Hotel.

This small hotel charges you a resort fee. This place is the furthest thing from a resort. They also hold $75 a night fee for incidentals. Sure, but there's no place to spend money this property unless you're using the room phone to call overseas.

I probably wouldn't have written a review if they hadn't pushed the extra resort fee on us. We booked online through a travel agency that's owned by Booking.com. All the resort extras like wifi were sold at a flat rate when we booked the room. We showed the hotel and called the booking agency to complain. Carnegie Hotel still didn't care and blamed it on the booking agency. They also told us this has happened before. If that's correct, why don't they remove themselves from the agency website?

Felt like we were getting hustled which is never fun while on vacation.

Response from J Vargas, General Manager at Carnegie Hotel
Responded Oct 25, 2021
Dear EricR628, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm disappointed to hear that we did not meet your expectations. We are indeed a small boutique hotel offering Continental breakfast, Wine & Cheese hour, unlimited coffee, tea, juices and light snacks during your stay, among other services. Our facility fee is a standard fee in many hotels in New York city, payable at the property and listed in all of our third party vendors, like Booking.com. While we do not blame anyone for the lack of information, we do our best to make corrections, if needed. I will be reviewing your comments with the appropriate parties to ensure there is no miscommunication. I apologize for any issues this may have caused and thank you for choosing The Carnegie Hotel.

We spent 5 nights at the Carnegie Hotel for our first time in New York.

Firstly the staff were exceptional, friendly and polite from the outset.

The hotel's location was ideal, walking distance in either direction to Central Park and Times Square. There was also a subway station just around the corner giving you access to the rest of the city.

Our room was on the 14th floor and although compact, was very comfortable and quiet. There are two spacious lifts which have you up to the higher floors in no time at all.

The wine and cheese hour is a must, every evening between 1700-1800hrs.

The continental breakfast is fairly limited, i.e. toast, bagels, yoghurt. But to be honest we were happy to 'grab 'n' go' in the mornings to get out exploring in the city. Also, free breakfast in NYC is very rare.

I would say this hotel is perfect for people attending a show/ event at the famous Carnegie Hall, or even business people who want quick access to the city.

Only negative, and perhaps because as Brit's we are not used to it, is the security fee you pay on arrival. I think ours was around $300 which you do get back but not sure if its totally necessary. It just adds a bit of sour taste when checking in.

The hotel had a lovely quiet feel to it, it was never overrun at reception or in the café/ restaurant and it allowed for a really peaceful stay, in what is a bustling city.

I would recommend to couples or solo travellers only. Not larger families, due to the size of the rooms.

A great stay overall and if we're fortunate enough to visit NYC again, we will be staying at the Carnegie Hotel.

Sam & Becky, Kent UK

The hotel has Excellent staff! The space is small but very comfortable. The kids loved the all day snacks and drinks as well as the breakfast. The lobby/snack/breakfast area is very homey and great for small gatherings with friends during the stay.
