Arrived on the 6th December via taxi ($90) to find some work happening nearby outside and scaffolding but that didn’t really affect us. Great location. right near 72nd st station. Literally a 5 min walk where 1 2 or 3 trains will get you down town in 10 to 15 minutes. There was a supermarket (fairway) 3 mins away too. Central Park is a 15 min walk away and is a must as you’re so close. We were directed to Viand for breakfast (by the concierge) and it is a 3 min walk away on the corner of west 75th and broadway. Alternatively there’s also a Starbucks a 2 min walk away. If you contact hotel they’ll arrange a SUV pick up and drop off. Approx $140 cash or $160 card. We got a yellow cab from the airport (JFK) and he offered to come back and get us too so we gave him $90 for the JFK to Wallace hotel journey and another $90 for Wallace to JFK We had 4 people travelling that included our two sons who are 18 and 15 and both over 6 foot. We booked a junior suite (I think it was) and it was enormous! Great mod cons like an espresso machine and electronic blinds (kids loved these!) room also had a hair dryer, robes, slippers, iron, kettle, a stocked tea and coffee drawer and there was a sink too. Breakfast at Viand round the corner was costing us $120 per day so it may be worth buying your own breakfast from the supermarket if you’re on a budget. Staff were friendly and polite (apart from one lady) and the cleaners were great doing little things like replacing your pjs under the pillow after making the bed and making sure our coffee and tea supplies were stocked etc. We left her $20 as that was all the cash we had left otherwise we would have left her more. We were out for the full day on our last day but they let us freshen up in the restrooms. Sounds daunting but they’re single cubicles so they’re quite large. They’re also clean so it’s easy to get freshened up and changed in there whilst waiting for your pickup. The only downside was on our departure day there was an open mic nite on (jazz types) and it was very busy. The actual hotel bar does get busy most nites (The Wallace Lounge) and it seemed very popular with local types! We were on the 7th floor and the view was so so. Also forgot to mention there’s a gym on floor 2 which was very well stocked. Wouks defo recommend this hotel. It’s a little out of the way but subway is great and it’s $33 for an unlimited use 7day pass.

Dear Chris Thanks for sharing your most detailed and informative post. We are most pleased your stay was a success. I would just point out that when we are asked to recommend car service it is for an immaculate Cadilla Escalade or similar vs a yellow cab. The choice is entirely up to the guest. We hope you had a great visit to NYC.

As an east coast native, I was surprised by the exceptional service and hotel stay at The Wallace. I decided to book a one night stay and I wished I booked for longer because the hotel was absolutely amazing.
The staff was great, rooms were spacious and so clean. Betty (I think was her name.. so sorry if I remembered wrong) checked me in and immediately upgraded my room due to availability. Check-in was a breeze. I walked in and was floored at how clean the hotel was - especially for a city like NYC where reviews on cleanliness are a bit subjective - the reviews here did not lie. This place is IMMACULATE (and I'm quite strict on my clean room needs). They also provided complimentary water and snacks, which are such added pluses to any stay. The bathroom was quite nice, and with the tall ceilings the room feels more spacious than it may be - loved the soft slippers and robe as well. High speed wi-fi if you need to connect!
Check out is at 12 PM - I was running a little late but the front desk staff was super accommodating and allowed me a 30 minute grace period to pack and check out.
Thank you for a most wonderful stay - I hope to be back soon!

We chose this hotel as we wanted to be in a quieter area and needed a bit more space. We chose a double queen suite for the three of us.
The area was good with two subway stations nearby 72nd Street and 79th Street - these take you downtown very quickly and it’s easy to get connections to go further afield. There’s a cafe on the corner of the street where we got really good pastries and coffees for breakfast each morning. There are quite a few restaurants, cafes and shops nearby.
When we arrived we received a warm welcome and were quickly checked in, our room was very nice and spotlessly clean. Great first impression!
Beds were comfortable and bedding good quality, although I prefer a duvet cover rather than the bottom and top sheet configuration that tends to be used in the USA. There were two big drawers and a hanging rail as well as several other small drawers next to the bed and in the dressing table.
The bathroom was spacious by NYC standards with a good shower (rain head and wall mounted shower head).
The living area was very comfortable with a large sofa with chaise long section big enough to be a third bed! Huge T.V. under which is a big unit with lots of storage which also serves as a desk with a desk chair. We ate our breakfast here most days and takeout one afternoon. There are no plates or cutlery so make sure you bring/buy some if you’re planning to eat in the room.
The wet bar area has a sink, fridge, kettle, coffee machine and complimentary hospitality drawer.
The wardrobe is at the entrance to the room (in the living area) and is spacious and houses an iron, bathrobes, slippers, hairdryer (not very powerful compared to UK ones!) and umbrella. There were plenty of hangers and a floor to ceiling shelved section.
There are panels with buttons controlling the lights and blinds with a ‘privacy’ and ‘service’ setting which was handy.
If I was being really picky, there are a couple of things which would make it absolutely perfect, some hooks for coats in the living area somewhere and a heated towel rail in the bathroom. Also, housekeeping was a little bit bit and miss, the hospitality drawer wasn’t always topped up and I noticed the counter top wasn’t wiped a couple of days, but overall the room was very clean and housekeeping more than happy to provide what you needed very quickly when called.
We unfortunately had some Very noisy people above our room, we probably could have moved rooms if we’d asked but I didn’t want to pack everything up again so we stayed put, it didn’t interfere too much.
There are no other services available in the hotel, it’s really just a serviced room. The Wallace Lounge is run separately and is only open in the evening. We ate there one night and the food was very nice. It’s a shame this area couldn’t be used to provide drinks and snacks in the day too as it’s a very comfortable area to sit. Even just providing tea/coffee and drinks would have been nice.

We really loved this place, booked a Queen Suite with the living room and it was a perfect base to explore the city for the first time. It’s in a very cool neighbourhood, close to the subway with great restaurants all around and close to Riverside and Central Park. It felt very safe at all times. The room was pristine and very high end, we really appreciated having a big space to retire to, if someone wanted to rest they could go ahead whilst the others chilled in the living room. If I had any criticism it was that the fancy blinds in the bedroom didn’t really stop the light coming through in the morning, some heavy curtains would probably be better. The staff were lovely, always a smile and a good recommendation if required. Wouldn’t look elsewhere if we’re lucky enough to return, straight back to The Wallace!

The Wallace is a little slice of heaven just minutes from the center of the city. We stayed at the Wallace for 5 days coming from Nashville. I never write reviews, but this was worth it! The Wallace is a smaller boutique hotel located in the gorgeous upper west side steps from Central Park, the subway, local coffee shops, bakeries, gelato, grocery, etc. everything you could possibly need or want! The location of The Wallace is perfect if you are wanting a haven away from all of the hustle and bustle of the city and more crowded and touristy neighborhoods of New York. We felt so safe both day and night. Make sure and have breakfast at Sarabeth’s and pizza from Made in New York Pizza. We felt welcome from the moment we stepped into the beautiful hotel! We were greeted with open doors and smiles. Check in was so easy and smooth. We landed early and they were happy to keep our bags while we explored outside around the hotel. We were also able to get into our room early as well! The Wallace is smaller, but affords a very luxurious atmosphere that includes a beautiful moody bar/lounge that serves small bites and drinks in the evening while listening to live music on the weekends. While there, Joseph at the front desk was there to help us out with any questions or requests! Jay Sean was there with a big welcome back smile on his face at the entry opening the doors and helped with our luggage both upon arrival and departure. Betty and Pia were both a delight at the front desk. They both helped us extend our stay and find the perfect room! Again always with a smile on their faces! Eddie in housekeeping was such a delight! I stayed in the last day and he made sure that we had everything we needed since I didn’t request cleaning service that day. I was feeling a little under the weather and he went out of his way to bring up some extra snacks and coffee/tea. We will hands down be staying at The Wallace for all of our New York trips in the future! Thank ya’ll for a wonderful stay!

Bit of a mixed review as like me, you might be wondering how this is rated so highly on Trip Advisor. Bottom line, it has lovely clean, well appointed, quite luxurious rooms…and unfortunately nothing at all else to offer. There is no breakfast, no room service, no dining area so in my view is a bed and breakfast place but without the breakfast!!! There are a couple of local places to eat in the morning a few minutes away (Brunch and Daily Provisions), but to be calling itself a hotel and then be ranked against other ‘proper’ hotels is a bit of a stretch in my view - the multiple 5 star reviews are probably for the well ironed sheets! Anyway, as I said, really nice rooms, and a quiet street in a great part of upper west side. My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights and were thoughtfully in side by side rooms. The late checkin guy was a bit surly, didn’t smile, didn’t ask about our trip from the UK, or offer to help with bags. The rest of the front desk staff we met during our stay were great. There’s a very popular jazz lounge attached to the hotel and it gets busy with non-residents so even if you want to have a quick drink after sight-seeing as a paying guest, you’d have to book the day prior which isn’t really ideal. The chap on the lounge door was helpful to be fair, and went out of his way to greet us by name and make sure we had a spot at a bar table to meet another family member on a busy Friday evening. There’s a subway close by and gets you into the heart of Manhattan in a flash. The walk down through Central Park is lovely though. We’ve been fortunate to stay in some really luxurious hotels around the world and whilst I wont say anything negative about the Wallace, it’s really not a hotel I can compare with any other…yet charges are steep for what’s basically a room with no other facilities - your call?.

Very satisfied with how dog-friendly the hotel and the staff were. The entire hotel was spotless and clean, and the lobby smelled fresh. The interior design was beautiful and modern, and I loved how everything was controlled electronically, including the window shade. The cleaning staff always made sure I had plenty of toiletries and towels each time they cleaned. And thank you for not charging for bottled water! The bottle style of the bath products match the style of the room perfectly, and they smell so fresh. The location of the hotel itself is perfect for a travel staying with their dog, as there is a pet store directly across the street, and a safe dog park within walking distance. The entire Riverside area just past the dog park is a safe and scenic walk for anyone with their dog. DoorDash is readily available, and there are great restaurants within walking distance for pickup, as well as grocery stores, like Trader Joe’s. I will definitely seek this place out the next time I plan a trip to NYC, with or without my dog.

This hotel is a real find and an amazing value for the room quality and friendly service. We stayed in a deluxe suite and the room was on the par with the elite five star hotels in NYC, at a much more reasonable price. The front desk staff, doormen, and room cleaning staff were upbeat and always willing to assist. We also experienced some excellent post-stay follow up from the front office team. The neighborhood has a great array of coffee shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and the like. And the traffic is so much easier than midtown. We knew going in that the Wallace does not have a restaurant or room service, but the plusses make this our return choice for the upper west side. Well done the Wallace team! DA.

Three night stay from London. This is a gem of a hotel. Brilliant location on so many different levels: quiet, safe, chic, Hudson Park Greenway, Central Park. We had a junior suite on floor 12, which seemed huge and was spotless every day.
Only slight issue is price but prices in NYC are a real problem with demand outstripping supply and especially during convention and UN weeks— as was the case with us unfortunately. Hence prices are off the scale everywhere. We figured we would rather pay a little more for quality rather than blow say $400 a night on some midtown box grime hole. Yes the Wallace is expensive but glad we paid the extra; we did manage to lock in a better value rate a few months in advance so that saved some.
Overall, many compliments to manager and the staff. And thank you.
