Moxy NYC Downtown receives mixed reviews, with its prime location in a trendy district earning consistent praise for its easy access to subways and local attractions. The hotel's vibrant, youthful atmosphere is popular among guests looking for a high-energy experience, but some find it too loud. While the creative room design is a highlight, the limited space can be a drawback.
Opinions on service and amenities vary, though the cleanliness generally meets expectations. However, undisclosed fees have left some guests feeling the value of their stay was compromised.

The group we went with chose this hotel as it was in a great location for the things we needed to do, most of which were downtown. The lobby and bar were great and the rooms, especially the view was very good. This was a little younger, hipper than I usually do. Rooms were very minimalist, it made an Aloft seem like luxury. However, for as much as I use the room, it was totally sufficient. I will say the members of our party who chose this were 20 years younger than me. Still I totally enjoyed and I did like the communal floor with bar and other uses. Finally, if your business is downtown, the location was very good.

Stayed there with my partner. From our point of view this place is perfect, it's very stylish, it offers a great view from higher floors, rooms pictures provided on various booking websites are not tweaked and you can expect the same standard, our room was spotless, the only minor drawback is the size - it could be slightly larger but for us it was not a problem. This place is a great value for your money but what makes this place unique is their staff. Celine, Lauren, Richard and above all Mat - thanks guys for making our stay such a great experience, if anyone from management reads that please take a good care of them - they are a great added value to this place.
To sum up I've stayed in quite a few hotels in NYC but this one turned to be my place. I will use it again and will recommend it to everyone.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We recently stayed at the Moxy whilst on a short visit to NYC. The hotel is located in a good location and it takes less than a minute to get onto the subway. It’s also very close to Wall Street, China Town, Brooklyn Bridge and the World Trade Centre. The property was easy to find and it has a good selection of nearby stores and restaurants.
The hotel staff were mostly very good. The luggage porter was excellent and was definitely the most helpful and friendly member of the team. The hotel reception is rather small, but I guess it does the job. The colleague that checked us in was very pleasant and helpful. However, we did drop by the reception on one occasion and the woman behind the desk was very unhelpful, blunt and rather rude.
The decor and theme of the property was fitting and rather well done. However it’s most definitely a property for the younger crowd and millennials.
The room was really rather small (but this is NYC) and it had a good view. However it did lack some of the amenities that we would have wanted at our fingertips e.g. coffee facilities, but that was most likely poor planning on our behalf.
In the room the fan was either on full or auto which is rather annoying, it would be nice to be able to select a continuous low fan. The bed was comfortable however the duvet is incredibly thin, it was much more of a blanket rather than that of a duvet. We did sleep well and on the whole we found the room quiet in a busy city.
You have to take two elevators to get between ground level and your room which is rather annoying and a feature of properties that we tend to dislike. It may sound trivial, but having to wait for two elevators in a busy hotel when all you need to do is quickly get to or from your room is pretty annoying.
We wouldn’t stay here again but I can appreciate that it’s (Moxy) just isn’t a brand of Marriott for us. Between me and my partner we stay at Marriott hotels around 300 days per year. So we’re very loyal to the brand however this just isn’t for us. The hotel felt much more like a youth hostel than a hotel and that’s not what we wanted.

Useless.
The location is good.
The rooms and the service are awful.
Rooms: small as everywhere; but to the point that there is no wardrobe - one is supposed to hang clothes on free hangers on a wall which makes a room look incredibly messy.
There also is no desk, and there are no chairs. There is instead a bulky and instagrammable but entirely useless hanging chair that occupies the only useful space.
Also no fridge/minibar/coffee machine or hot water kettle. Absolutely nothing.
Sheets are not ironed. The sheet cover was dirty. There also is no duvet in case one is cold (and where would they store it, there is no wardrobe!!).
Same as the bathroom floor: filthy.
Moreover, there is no body lotion, no toiletries other than soap, shampoo and conditioner.
Service - when I arrived to check in I didn’t see a single smile from the receptionist, she was cold to the point of almost being rude.

First experience at Moxy. Crowd is very Gen Z/Millennial. Tough to get space for relaxation at the end of the workday in Rec area. Front desk staff went over and above after an initial mistake. Head and body shampoo isn't a good choice for female travelers. AC/Heating system in room is loud.....

Honestly the hotel is nice and overall okay. The reason why I am giving two stars is because they failed at providing me a promised refund. When I checked in I was told that the $25 destination fee is not refundable but whatever my breakfast fee is will be credited towards the $25. So I eat breakfast there. I never get the credit back. I called them a week after the stay and was informed I would be receiving an updated email with the correction within 15 minutes. This never happens and this was also a week ago.
The other thing that happened was after I had checked into my room I called for a toothbrush. I was told it would be sent up right away. About an hour later I called back down to ask for the status. This time another person picked up and informed me I would need to come down to pick it up myself. I politely explained that is not a problem but would have been nice if someone told me that an hour ago so I wouldn’t be waiting for it and it’s now past midnight. When I said that the lady on the phone then stated she just came on shift- will ask about what was previously promised and then agreed to send someone up with a toothbrush.
I hope they can use this review to work on improving their processes so future clients have a better experience with them.

Hey Moxy Downtown! Many of your guests, myself included, were unable to shower on the morning of Tuesday September 20th due to lack of water in the hotel. While I understand sometimes these things happen and they are beyond your control, what is in your control is the manner in which your staff responds to inquiries about why there was no water. Being rudely handed a bottle of water and wash cloth (after a morning run and 45 minutes before a big business meeting) was not a great way to start the day. Moreover, the promised "consideration" of a commensurate adjustment to my bill did not happen either. Is there an appropriate person and contact details with whom I can discuss this experience?

Stayed 3 nights the hotel is in a great area walking distance from the the mall, shops, restaurants, and Statue of Liberty viewing area. Front desk people were cool. The upstairs lobby was very neat and hip with games and a live DJ though I never ordered anything. Everything is very clean room/hotel is fairly new. The room and hallways were quiet and they smelled good. Cleaning service only came once on the last day. Though they did ask on the second day and I said yes please and to come back in 20 mins as I was changing and getting ready to leave the room however they never came back. Room I purchased was a king city view, though the king beds aren’t standard king beds they are smaller but that’s New York. The only thing that upset me was there was no chair swing in my room but it the pics of the room I booked on orbits it shows the chair swing in the king city view, it made me sad when I walked by rooms with the door open and I could see in and saw that they had a swinging chair. :/

I recently stayed at the Moxy Hotel for 3 nights.
I arrived having flown a transatlantic flight to phone down to reception to be told that they don’t offer room service at all, most disappointing for a 4 star hotel. There was no tea / coffee making facilities in the room, no turn down and room cleaning was every other day.
From when I checked in on the Monday afternoon and when I returned to my room on the Wednesday afternoon my room still hadn’t been cleaned. I had to phone down to reception to get it finally cleaned. A pizza box that I put outside my hotel door remained there for over 24 hours and was never cleared, even after housekeeping had been to clean my room.
For a hotel that charges $480 a night they offer a terrible service but know how to charge. I shared this feedback with front desk on my departure and was assured it would be given to the manager but so far I have heard nothing back. Most disappointing stay at the Moxy and wouldn’t recommend.

We used their mixed space for a corporate event of 35 people. Open air space. Stadium style chair set up with AV set up. Excellent coffee, snacks and lunch. Separate set up for our photographer to do headshots. Event ran perfectly and people were always around to help make sure we had everything we needed. We definitely use the hotel again.
