The Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square South often receives mixed feedback from guests. While the location is praised for its proximity to Times Square, reviews are divided, with some guests feeling it falls short of expectations. The hotel's atmosphere is commonly described as outdated, with signs of wear, though cleanliness is typically acknowledged.
However, reviewers frequently voice dissatisfaction with the hotel's amenities and services, highlighting slow elevators and busy breakfast areas. Concerning value, many feel the costs are not reflective of the services provided, and while some guests find the rooms sizable and comfortable, others report maintenance and cleanliness issues.

Great location heart of Times Square. Check in staff superb, special mention to Tai. Bedrooms and bathrooms are compact. However, sufficient hanging space, microwave, fridge and coffee maker. Plenty plug sockets . Excellent breakfast . The duvet and sheet was a battle to keep straight. Would be nice to have tourist information leaflets and maps available. We loved the hotel.

Great price, great location, great staff, free hot drinks 24hrs a day.
The room we was fine with little noise, which we were grateful for being in times square. AMAZING SHOWER. Comfy beds. Room was a little small for two people, but it's fine as you don't spend much time in your room when you're in NY.
The hotel is massive and with only 2 lifts which was a little annoying but being in NY you don't spend too much time at the hotel so wasnt an issue.
The big issue for me was after agreeing to the go green policy at check in, (no housekeeping for duration of stay and you get a late check out as a reward, which I thought was great, as I'm all for the environment and late check outs) I was gobsmacked when it was evident that there was no go green policy whatsoever at breakfast. Paper plates which are not reusable, single use plastic knives and folks, single use coffee cups, is it too much to ask when I'm paying for breakfast to have a normal plate, knife and folk so I can cut my waffle? The breakfast itself was poor to say the least, but giving the cost of our stay I honestly cant complain, I simply grabbed a coffee and bagel and left.
If you're looking for a cheap stay in NY, if you need somewhere simply to sleep as you will be out all day and night, and don't mind going elsewhere for breakfast, Hampton inn is your hotel. But if you're environmentally conscious, maybe don't stay here.

On our weekend birthday trip to NYC, we found this location to be ideal. The usual value and quality we expect from Hampton Inn were there. As far as the negative reviews are concerned, remember that this is located in the busiest spot in one of the world’s largest cities. There is construction, prices will be higher, there are poor people, hotel rooms in mid-priced hotels are smaller, and you may have to walk half a block to hail a cab. If you’re not a total rube, you’ll be fine. The staff was very friendly and helpful and there were ample vending machines, ice, free coffee/tea/hot chocolate 24/7. One of the elevators was out, but stuff happens. You squeeze yourself into the next available and have a good laugh. The rooms are clean and have coffee makers, a safe, a closet, a huge tv, free Wifi, an iron and board, outlets near the bed, a desk and chair, a refrigerator and an ice bucket. The bathroom was well-stocked. The rooms are smaller than other Hampton rooms we’ve stayed in, but keep in mind that we’ve stayed at another boutique hotel where the door barely cleared the bed when opened! Again, space is precious in this metropolis. Breakfast is free, but the eating area is small and cramped and the food is standard meh. On a busy day you can just take your food back to your room to eat or visit one of the various diners within walking distance. The only negative about the stay is that the staff could warn customers ahead of time that one of the elevators was out and to plan for an extra wait. Otherwise, this location was a good value for a nice experience.

Went in January with my family. 3 thumbs up & 3 thumbs down:
GOOD:
1) Location, Location, Location. The hotel is just 4 blocks from Times square. The location is perfect (close enough to be there in just 2 minutes but far enough of the excesive noice)
2) The hotel employees (specially at the front desk and at the breakfast room) were extremly polite all the time. I want to specially highlight "Vina" at the reception desk. She was extremly helpfull, always polite, smiling all the time and willing to help for every little detail. Fantastic!.
3) The breakfast was very good (not great, but good enough). You can find anything you want (muffins, bagles, cream cheese, apple or orange juice, coffe or tea, eggs, waffles, etc... very good breakfast if you compate to the medium range price of the hotel
Not good:
1) The elevators are horrible. It´s a 32 stories building with just 2 elevators There is always a long long line to use them and sometimies you need to wait extremly long time to go down to the lobby when leaving your room
2) Breakfast Room; Although the breakfast is good (the food) the Room to have it is extremly small for such a big building. Every morning you need to wait in line to get your coffe. Extremly small room for 32 stories and 5 rooms per floor
3) Rooms: This is a classic in all New York, but still Rooms are extremly small. They are good for 1 person, maximum 2. If you go with kids you will have to be very skinny, the room is very very small.
All in All is a good hotel, I do recomend it, and if I go back to New York I´ll definitely book it again!

Location of the hotel typically implies the level of service and quality of accommodation. This hotel does not meet any of these expectations unfortunately. Building is old and hotel not maintained. It urgently requires renovation. The rooms are tiny (two double beds barely fit in a room with enough space to fit one person walking by the bed), the ceiling is moldy, the bathroom mirror is loosing away it’s reflective surface and looks very old (not vintage). I hope management takes immediate steps to fix the quality of the rooms offered as I personally would never come back to this hotel at the current price tag. The only plus is the personnel in the kitchen - those guys work super hard to make your breakfast experience the best part of the day!

Set your expectations low
If you are a frequent Hilton guest then you are in for a disappointing treat. I’m not usually one to leave reviews but I feel I need to here. I would usually book direct with Hilton but it was cheaper through booking.com. The hotel is in major need of modernisation, nothing about this hotel screams Hilton apart from a few logs. I was put on the 4th floor next to the stairs door. There was a massive group of school children/teens and the shouting and screaming until 2.30am was too much even for the city that doesn’t sleep. The place was heaving the next morning as it looked like they were all checking out, but disrespectful doesn’t come close to the behaviour on that first night.
This Hilton is more like a hostel than a hotel. The rooms are fitted with electric heaters so loud it would be impossible to sleep. I was moved to the 20th floor which was quieter but the room still pretty much the same, I could smell cleaning products so it must have been turned around that day. The place was cleanish, the bathrooms could have had more attention but the room was ok. The higher up you go, the longer it takes to feed hot water so expect to run your shower for a bit.
Breakfast… well… if you are thinking this is going to be the typical feast that Hilton puts on, You are very wrong. Paper plates, paper cups, Plastic cutlery and cold food is what you will get. There is scrambled egg, sausage and mini potatoes from the “hot” selection, that’s it, then some bread to toast and cereal. Breakfast area is canteen like, find a seat if you can.
In the room; the towels and paper coffee cups were branded with Holiday Inn logos and you are given powered milk. Maid service is just changing bins, don’t expect beds to be made or anything, it’s just bins being emptied.
Had this have been a hotel chain I wasn’t use to I probably wouldn’t have left a review, but you pay for the brand and you don’t receive the brand, literally.. to have this hotel under the Hilton name is an embarrassment, worst Hilton I’ve ever stayed in and I’m a frequent guest. The money I paid I would have expected a lot more out of a Hilton, there are better hotels in the area for less, don’t waste your money here.

Location is excellent. Air conditioning didn’t work well the whole trip, so beds felt damp from the humidity. We wound up sleeping on top of the sheets in an attempt to stay cool (it didn’t work). We had water running down the bathroom wall from the room above, creating a puddle on our bathroom floor. That said, the location and lack of road noise would make this 9/10 if they fixed the a/c and water leak.

This hotel is located within a six block radius of Times Square, Penn Station and the Port Authority and many restaurants. It is clean, well maintained and by NYC standards, the rooms are large. The staff is very helpful and available 24 hrs. The breakfast is a typical Hampton Inn breakfast (complete) and is well serviced. From our perspective, the hotel was a great bargain at a prime location.

DO NOT STAY HERE. The hotel is filthy and clearly extremely understaffed. We didn’t get body wash, shower caps etc. My bath towel had holes in it. My fiancé and I couldn’t even each have a shower because there was no hot water about 1 min into my shower. We checked into our room and it was so dirty we had to ask for a different room. The first room we were in also smelled extremely musty. The hotel has 32 floors and only 3 of them have operational ice machines. We had to wait about 5 mins anytime we wanted to get the elevator. Hallways clearly do not get vacuumed or cleaned. We checked into a different room and it was also filthy. We were told there is no housekeeping services. We asked the hotel front desk to send someone to clean our room and they promised someone would come immediately. The room had not been touched when we came back… same hairs in the shower etc. They never came. Our curtains didn’t close, so we have had to hide in the bathroom to change. My fiancé and I were in NYC for our honeymoon and we spent part of it cleaning our own room… yes, we literally had to go buy cleaning products because housekeeping wouldn’t do it. We also had to collect and take out our own trash.
Free breakfast doesn’t mean much when you can’t get any food! Unless you went at 6am when it opened they ran out of everything only about halfway through the breakfast time. The breakfast room was dirty and nobody was there to clean it.
Absolutely despicable “service.” Part of paying for a hotel is to get a clean room with housekeeping service. No. We had to ask even for the basics (soap, body wash)… insanity. Never ever stay at this hotel. It turns my stomach to think of the hundreds of dollars we had to spend on this hotel.

I stayed for four nights with my wife and daughter.
Good news.
Excellent location. Breakfast is good and comparable to other Hampton locations.
Bad news.
I know that the hotels in NYC are smaller but this Win that category.
I overall I don’t feel that this hotel belong to Hilton.
Bathroom and room in bad conditions and extremely very tiny.
No housekeeping during my stay due to a rule to clean the rooms every four days.
Broken lamps and bathroom accessories are part of this room. Uncomfortable and tiny double beds.
If you need towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo and conditioner, you need to request it by phone. Nevertheless never appear so is better to visit the front desk during the day. Not during the night since the staff are rude.
Breakfast area dirty and just one employee fill the pans and try to maintain all in order.
Hilton honor benefits did not exists.

Best answered by hotel but I imagine the credit card can be used at check in fcor the deposit and once room is cleared from damage etc, the hold is released
I used the airtrain from JFK then picked up the subway from Jamaica E train (Blue line) to Port Authority stop and the hotel is a 5 minute walk away
Unfortunately not. Total ignorance. They have never come back to me….
