Nestled in the heart of New York City, The Chatwal garners praise for its spotless rooms enhanced with luxury touches like rain showers and plush beds. Its prime location near Broadway and Times Square is a hit among patrons, as is the seamless blend of modern comforts and old-world elegance that defines the hotel's atmosphere.
While the rooms are celebrated for their spaciousness and tranquility, the need for some updates has been noted. The comprehensive amenities and professional service contribute to its appeal, though opinions on value for money tend to vary.

Detailed Reviews
I’ve visited NYC countless times and stayed at many luxury properties and whilst I was attracted to visit The Chatwal somehow I was put off by its Times Square location until this march when I spent six nights. I’m so glad I did…this is by far the best hotel experience I’ve ever had in Manhattan. The location feels miles away thanks to ultra quiet rooms and yet close to everything.
But it’s the endless details and the friendly staff that make the difference; check-in was flawless and I was recognized as a Hyatt Globalist. I was assigned a fantastic suite where complimentary premium water, a plate of fruit, fresh flowers and a delicious plate of charcuterie (which was my dinner) were left with a handwritten welcome note.
The bedroom was huge and comfortable and to my disbelief my initials were monogramed in the pillow covers..what a magnificent detail; then the butler (Sonna) rang to offer her services as all guests at the hotel are assigned a butler.
A big thank to Suyapa from housekeeping whom everyday left the room spotless and even put fresh orchids in the bathroom; One day I even found a backgammon game set which later I noticed were left to all the guests.
In room service was also perfect and prompt; Cindy at the front desk always greeted me and Steven the doorman went to get the Sunday New York Times and left it in my door before 7.00am. The front desk team led by Adam Hermann is fantastic and followed up on all the details.
Finally Congrats to Francisco the Head Concierge who assisted me with several things; he has over 20 years experience in the Times Square area thus a huge plus for guests looking for hard to get Broadway shows.
The details in room are too many to list here: plenty of complimentary water, complimentary fast wifi, an Illy espresso machine with pods replaced daily, luxurious linen and towels, ultra luxury toiletries by Asprey in the bathroom etc.
This is a boutique hotel and therefore they are able to focus on serving very well guests; whilst not cheap I found it to deliver much better value than most large luxury hotels.
The phrase “your home away from home” has become a meaningless cliche but not at The Chatwal; These people truly know what they do and they care. I will most certainly return.

The staff is unbelievable at The Chatwal and a big factor in rating the overall experience. Regardless of the time of day OR which staff member we encountered, we were embraced with a warm and enthusiastic greeting. Many of the staff engaged us in conversation without being obtrusive. This made our stay feel as though we were in a friendly neighborhood building vs a hotel near Times Square. The room (608) was spacious, quiet even as it faced W 44th, well equipped (even though a coffee maker would be appreciated), huge bathroom with an older Toto bidet, and the king bed was so comfortable. The carpet and wall paper is getting a little worn, yet we appreciated the modern furniture that was spotless and comfortable. The location was fantastic for walking to all the places we were going, and near the beginning of the St. Patrick's Day parade. We appreciated the free coffee in the lobby that began at 6am as we are early birds! We also ate breakfast and dinner at The Lamb's Club restaurant in the hotel. The food offered a great variety and was so good, and again the service was impeccable. We had a great stay with a late 1pm checkout. The doorman asked for the information about our car service, and came to get us and our bags as soon as the car arrived. Exceptional! We also enjoyed the 3rd night free special making this stay very affordable.

As a loyal Marriott fan, choosing a hotel in NYC for my birthday trip was a bit of a challenge, as there are so many amazing hotels. I ended up choosing The Chatwal, due to the fact that I really enjoy The Luxury Collection brand. Overall, this was a very nice stay. Would I be back? Maybe.
The Chatwal is in a gorgeous Art Deco style. I love how the hotel is an intimate, boutique property. It was so easy to navigate and I really got to know the staff. By the second day, one of the doormen said, "Welcome back! It's good to see you again." The staff were all absolutely lovely. Oddly, we had a welcome card in our room from the butler, but whenever we contacted him, we were told he wasn't on duty. It was very strange and pointless to offer that service. However, the staff were all very quick to take care of any needs we had.
The room was stunningly appointed, with elegant furnishings and rich colors. The bed was comfortable, but had very bad staining on the side. There was nothing in the minibar and turndown service was not offered. It wasn't a huge deal, but not offering these things knocks the hotel down from being a true luxury property. We absolutely loved the huge bathroom, with the walk in shower. It felt so luxurious with the Asprey toiletries and warm brown tones in the bathroom. If you are a light sleeper, note that sound between rooms is very apparent. There is also quite a bit of street noise.
Currently (as of February 2022), room service is offered until 10pm and the restaurant is open to hotel guests. I never ate in the restaurant, but it looked lovely. There is a very small fitness center that's open 24 hours. You do need proof of vaccination to use it. It's a nice gym with all of the basics, but isn't suitable for anyone needing a lot of equipment for an extensive routine. Also, the spa and pool are currently closed.
I would possibly return to the Chatwal, but I would like to try other luxury properties in the city first. Maybe this hotel can be 5-star again when it reinstates some lost services.

I can’t say enough good things about this place! For someone that’s quite particular in hotels, this seems to hit all the marks. First of all, staying in Manhattan can be tough on noise factor since it’s such a great city that rarely sleeps. Chatwal does a great job of drowning it all and is quite the peaceful escape. Don’t worry about the other reviews, you will not hear any noise whatsoever from the streets regardless of floor you’re on.
The service is always wonderful and consistent, from the friendly bellmans, room service team, housekeeping and front desk team (Anggela and Isabella thank you) it makes this feel like my home away from home when in NYC. Rooms are updated, comfortable and linens top notch. All other amenities are wonderful if you have time.
It’s the little touches that go far, including the little treats they leave for me ;)
My only constructive feedback is that the rooms are rather small, I’ve had three different types of rooms and all are quite small even for Ny standards. Haven’t experienced their suites yet, never any upgrades available when I travel. And something minor , but since I’m usually there on business travels a small breakfast pop up would be great. Pastries, fruit, something quick and easy for us on the go.
Thank you Chatwal for the great memories each time!

The Chatwal is the only hotel in the luxury collection that I highly discourage.
The rooms are extremely gloomy, dark and with very small windows. Nevertheless, you sleep well and the bathrooms are large and comfortable.
The hotel facility is of a good standard, as is the restaurant and bar. The breakfast at The Lamb Club is also excellent, both the service and the dishes.
Unfortunately, the positives end there. I had booked a rate with breakfast included (and I'm also Bonvoy Platinum so I get free breakfast) but I received vouchers for the continental breakfast (which includes only coffee, a juice, some fruit or cereal and two croissants). If you want the American breakfast (with eggs and bacon) or a second orange juice you have to pay extra... Also, at check out I found out that you have to pay for water (brought by default to the waiter and costing $10 + tax per day - more than a quarter of the value of the breakfast that cost $36 on the menu). Honestly I find this policy really outrageous, a real scam. I would like to tell you about the other amenities such as pool, spa, gym, evening turndown service and house car but I could not use them because they were not available. Not even the room service is H24 (closes at 10am), the minibar is empty and there is no coffee machine in the room. At checkout I pointed out that paying $10 for water in a breakfast that should be included is outrageous and received a rude response from the manager who denied that my rate included breakfast and said that he was just doing me a favor to include it. After I showed him the confirmation email, he cancelled the bill with an annoyed look and didn't even bother to apologize for the bad impression. I have toured several hotels in the USA and around the world and this is the one that left me with the worst memory. Asking the full price and cheating guests at breakfast, not including the evening turndown service and not giving any compensation (not even a drink) for all the unavailable services disqualifies the whole hotel and the manager, who - in my opinion - should be ashamed and change his job. Even the latest reviews on the web confirm my bad experience and lead me to advise anyone against staying here. The Chatwal may have been a grand hotel, now it is more like a 3 star hotel both in terms of services and how you are treated. I find it unworthy that it is included in the Luxury Collection (there is nothing Luxury about it). Stay away!

From the moment we arrived, we were waited on hand and foot! The doorman was very helpful with our bags, they were rather heavy and he didn't break a sweat! The front desk attendant was very polite, I asked if we could get a higher room, and she accommodated and handed each of us a little Chatwal water bottle as the bellhop loaded our bags and showed us to the elevator. Once we got to the room, he showed us the MANY features of the room! Wonderful chase lounge, huge windows that opened, towel warmer, TWO rain showers, a jacuzzi bathtub, and double vanity. After he left we started putting our clothes away in the four available closets and he came back to drop off the complimentary truffles, water (multiple types), and snacks. We went down to the concierge and he called us an uber and told us where we should go for a great evening! Same experience when we checked out, we had our bags stored for the day since we didn't fly out until the evening, they loaded them up and packed them into the car for us. Could not have had a better stay!! This hotel is truly unique with the decor, and the staff is amazing!!

The Chatwal is nestled in the heart of the Theater District and has an old world New York charm and sophistication.
We were celebrating my wife’s birthday and the staff at the Chatwal made it an amazing and memorable weekend. A huge Thank You to Vivanna and Sandra for going above and beyond. You exceeded our expectations and made this an unforgettable and memorable birthday. Concierge had also helped us secure dinner reservations at The Lamb’s Club in the hotel. Everything all came together and it was truly a wonderful experience overall.
Our Garden Suite was simply magical – a quiet, relaxing retreat full of greenery amidst this concrete jungle. Our butler and any service requests from shoe shine to additional bath amenities could be seamlessly accessed via the Chatwal configured iPads in the room. Service across the board from house-keeping, our butler and the check-in and check-out process was first class – personalized, respectful and efficient.
Gym – the gym was well equipped including a Peloton bike. It is a little small and any more than 2 people would feel cramped. Unfortunately the pool was not open at the time we were there – it would have been great to escape the sweltering NY temperatures.
We hope to be back again, this time for my birthday celebration. Thank You again.

I spent three nights here in January and was absolutely wowed by the property, which is the nicest I've stayed in in New York. It's a small hotel, just half a block off of Times Square (yet somehow peaceful and serene), with amazing service. They give you an ipad on which to make requests- each time I did so the request was answered immediately. When we ordered room service for breakfast it arrived in 15 minutes. The only other place I've had that happen is at Four Seasons properties. The gym is very small- three people in there was a crowd, but the adjoining spa is fabulous. The room was spacious and quiet. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom over the top. I can't recommend this property enough.

Responded Jan 28, 2020
Dear HistoryProf123, Thank you for your most recent stay at The Chatwal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, New York! Our entire team is delighted to learn that you had a wonderful experience at our boutique hotel during all three nights of the stay. Thank you for pointing out our most convenient location right in the heat of busy Manhattan, however remaining a peaceful place to restore your serenity. We are grateful for complimenting our high level of service and in-room technologies like an iPad system which can control many room features. We appreciate your honest comments in regards to the fitness room. Our work out area is on a smaller side indeed due to space limitations in Manhattan area, however we made sure to set it up with as much necessary equipment as possible. It was also a pleasure to learn that you had a chance to visit our Mynd Spa and found it to be a fabulous addition to other hotel amenities. Please note, all your valuable feedback was shared with our team members as a way of encouragement and motivation to always keep improving our level of service. We look forward to welcoming you back at The Chatwal and creating more memorable moments when your travels bring you back to New York City. . Warm Regards, Vita Yaprintseva Front Office Manger

The hotel is elegant and harkens back to bygone eras of luxury. I was in an entry level room, which was spacious enough for what was advertised. The room lacked natural light and had only a small window. There was a functional desk and a chair, which made working easy enough. The bathroom was excellent -- extremely spacious relative to the size of the room with a wonderful shower and many premium toiletries and amenities. The carpets were a little old and worse for wear. Many of the fixtures were tired in general. Given the room rates, it was disappointing that the rooms lack many of the more standard products in other luxury hotels (such as espresso makers, etc.). The staff were generally friendly and helpful enough when asked for help. The hotel is nice and the level of service good, but neither is spectacular.

Dear E3260LDmarkk, Good evening! Thank you for taking the time to share about your recent experience! Although you were in one of our entry level accommodations, we do offer plenty of other accommodations that might fit your preferences. We even have rooms with high windows and terraces facing city that brings excellent sunlight into the rooms. Additionally, we do offer coffee makers/espresso machines/tea kettles upon request and if known in advance could have placed one of these in your room for you. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you home soon! Warm Regards, Adam Herrmann Director of Front Office

I was charged an extra $100 after my stay. The hotel did not send a receipt until I called three times. Once I had the receipt, I had two charges in error. One charge was for breakfast ($35), but I used a voucher and the waiter said it was all covered and free. The second erroneous charge was for a $65 wine from the room mini bar. We did not consume anything from the bar. I called the hotel to dispute it. They could not provide any evidence that we consumed from the bar. They had lost the notes from the staff but they would not reverse the charges. This is a really annoying headache.
The hotel was lovely while there, but it is crooked to charge me for things I did not use. I would not recommend it. Find a more reputable hotel with an honest billing department.

Dear IHYD, The Majestic Theater is on the same street as The Chatwal Hotel, less than 5 minutes walking distance.
Please be informed, that we also offer a Chatwal Chariot to our hotel guest with a drop off range of 20 blocks. The House car is available on a first come first serve basis,
Good afternoon from The Chatwal New York!
For the month of January we offer live Jazz on our Weekend Brunch on Saturday and Sundays at The Lambs Club.
Best to check directly with the hotel.

Dear Corinn45,
Thank you for your question!
Our hotel does provide mini fridges available upon request. It is possible to store a minimum amount of personal items in a mini bar fridge, however the space in it is very limited. Please, inform our team in case you might need a mini fridge to be placed in your room prior or during your stay.
Best Regards,
