Element New York Times Square West is praised for its convenient location near Broadway and subway lines, although the bustling street activity nearby has drawn some concerns. The hotel's rooms receive mixed reviews, with certain guests enjoying the kitchen amenities and views, while others find the accommodations cramped. While opinions on value are divided, due to unexpected fees and varying room conditions, the hotel's cleanliness generally meets expectations. Service highlights include a friendly staff, despite complaints about elevator wait times and breakfast congestion. Travelers also welcome the practical in-room amenities, despite some wishing for better space and lighting optimization.

Element Hotel was a great value to include kitchenette in room, free breakfast, evening reception, and popcorn in the lobby. Hotel has a great location though it was poorly lit and displaced individuals gathered a few feet away openly indulging in drug activity. This is not a reflection of the hotel since this type of scenery is prominent throughout New York City.

Breakfast each day made eating affordable . We were a group of three with very opposite tastes, and each of us were able to find something enjoyable. For me, the chicken sausage, prepared oatmeal, and Chobani yogurt with blueberries and granola were quite satisfying.

Though the room was nice and large by NYC standards, the bedding was flimsy. The sheets and comforter thin and the pillows were flat. Asked for blankets, and they too were thin.

There are design flaws with the shower in that there was no shelving to place items such as your own personal soaps or bottles. Additionally, a towel rack near the shower would have been helpful instead of having to drape your drying towel on the door handle for easy access upon exiting the shower. Lastly, regarding the bathroom, the water in the shower pooled near the entry over our four night stay. Caution was certainly needed when entering and exiting as not to slip and fall.

I also suggest a full length mirror at first entry into the room. Though there is one on the bathroom door, my daughter and I were in competition for it. The availability of a folding table tray and folding compact seat since space was limited when eating in the room would have been advantageous. It was awkward to have to sit on the bed and eat.

We found accuracy in other reviews that mention challenges with the elevators during peak times. However, early mornings seemed to have the least traffic during our stay.

Despite these small inconveniences, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Minor improvements to the bedding, adding shelving in the shower and a towel rack next to the shower, and one table tray, and one folding stool would make this hotel perfect for our taste. Also the outside needs more lighting.

This hotel will be our staple when visiting New York City nonetheless.

As other people have commented, I was satisfied with the room, except for the problem of the elevator never coming. Although you won't get a great view, I recommend staying on a lower floor and using the emergency stairs. The rooms are cleaned every other day, but the amenity area on each floor is open and towels etc. can be borrowed freely, so it's not a problem. The daily breakfast and the free beer and wine service (included in the price) from Monday to Thursday evenings are big plus points in expensive New York.

I used the Bonvoy app to communicate with the staff and opted for a mobile key. Our room was ready by 9 am EST and I was able to message the hotel from our flight and asked for a lower floor. They were very prompt at replying and were able to put us on the 6th floor. When we arrived, we skipped the long line at reception, went straight to our room and were able to use the mobile key without any issues. Later that evening when there was no line at reception, we asked for physical keys without any issues. We knew ahead of our stay that only 2 elevators were working and only used them twice during our stay to carry luggage in and out. The other times, we used the stairs. Free breakfast was convenient, with a good variety of options and was enough for us and the kids. It was a bit crowded in the dinning area, but we had no issues finding a table for 4 every morning. The location was very convenient and we were able to take the subway everywhere without any issues. Yes, there are homeless people around the area, but we never had any issues walking at night back to the hotel. Lots of pizza options near by and a 7 eleven around the corner. We used the fridge to store water and the kitchen counter for our toiletries. The bathrooms are small, but that just NYC standards. Housekeeping is every other day. We left our room early in the mornings and didn’t return until evening. Our room was made by the time we got back. Overall, we had a good stay. This is by no means a 5 star hotel, so if you align your expectations accordingly and can stay on a lower floor and don’t mind using the stairs, it will be a positive stay. If you’re looking for luxury- stay somewhere else. If you’re looking for a centrally located hotel that offers free breakfast that can accommodate a family of 4, this is a good option.

Stayed here for several nights the other week and it was a lacklustre experience. Element New York Times Square West is an extended stay property located in the Garment district, 39th and 8th. As other reviewers had mentioned, the biggest challenge for the property are the elevators.

The elevator on the right seemed to be out of service during my entire stay while the middle elevator seemed to be in operation during some times. The left elevator seemed to be in operation. During peak hours, it appeared that the elevators were manually driven with one elevator focusing on high levels while the other elevator was focused on the lower levels. There was heavy crowding during peak hours waiting for the elevator.

Requested a lower level room via the app prior to arrival and was excited to walk up the stairs to my room only to find out that my mobile key wasn't working, only to walk back down the stairs to get a card key and walk back up the stairs again...

Once in my room, the TV welcomed me as Nadia the first night and Christopher on subsequent evenings, a touch creepy for personalization. The room itself features a full size fridge, hot plate, microwave, dishwasher, cutlery along with cups and plates. The TV in the room was gigantic, making it hard to watch TV and work at the desk at the same time. Wifi was spotty. The HVAC controller on the wall was out of batteries and requests via the app to get them replaced wasn't successful despite numerous attempts. The room HVAC was out of sync as setting the room to 68F yielded my room temperature to be 80F. Luckily, the windows to my room opened to cool it back down.

The bathroom was ok. I loved how there was a handheld shower, but it seemed to be leaking and the mount to the wall was loose... Water pressure was towards the weak side. For hot water, it was only very hot at the end of the spectrum or not hot enough if I didn't set it to max hot... There were plenty of towels along with body wash, shampoo, and lotion inside the bathroom. The facial tissues were of great quality although the toilet paper was pretty low end.

Surprisingly, the mattress was quite comfortable, albeit a touch lumpy. The sheets and pillows were of great quality.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your recent stay at Element New York Times Square West. I’m sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations, and I appreciate your thorough review, as it helps us understand where we need to improve. I sincerely apologize for the issues you faced with the elevators and the mobile key not working. I can understand how frustrating that must have been, especially when you had to make multiple trips. We will certainly look into the elevator service to ensure it is more reliable in the future, and we’ll investigate the mobile key system to avoid such inconveniences. We’re also sorry about the HVAC system and the spotty Wi-Fi. It’s disappointing that the room temperature couldn’t be adjusted properly, and that the system wasn’t functioning as it should. I’ve noted the issue with the HVAC controller and the weak water pressure in the shower, and we will address these problems immediately with our maintenance team. It’s good to hear that you liked the bathroom amenities, mattress, and quality of the linens. We’re glad that those aspects of your stay were comfortable for you, though we’ll certainly work to improve the other areas you mentioned. We truly appreciate your loyalty and honest feedback, and I hope you’ll consider staying with us again. If you do, we will strive to make your next experience more enjoyable and seamless. Sincerely, Annjelita P

I stayed at this hotel using Marriott points, and I’m glad I did because if I had paid for the room, I would have been extremely annoyed. I don’t think I would ever stay here again. That said, the staff were super friendly and worked hard under difficult conditions—they definitely deserve a union.

The elevator situation was a nightmare. With 400 rooms and only two working elevators, morning waits of 10 to 15 minutes were the norm. We’d press the elevator button, and it would light up, only to have the elevator pass us by. Then the button would turn off and refuse to light again when pressed. One day, we walked down a floor to see if it worked from there—and it did.

The "free" breakfast buffet was decent but extremely crowded. It also felt like it wasn’t heated, as you needed to wear a winter coat while dining.

On the positive side, the location is close to Broadway theaters, and the rooms are a decent size with equipped kitchens; although the room devotes a lot of space to the kitchen appliances, but no real dresser to store clothes.. One very annoying feature is the light sensor by the front door and bathroom. If anyone goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night, the lights turn on full force—a great way to wake everyone up.

My advice: choose someplace else.

I stayed in this hotel with my husband for 4 nights, we had the room with a wonderful view, directly on the Edge. Large, comfortable room, with bathroom of more than sufficient size, large shower served with shower gel and shampoo, before moving on to the well-stocked kitchenette (fridge, freezer, microwave and dishwasher), very comfortable bed and space to eat peacefully. Cleaning done twice during our stay, room on the 34th floor without any problem for the elevator, there are 3 and all working, we never waited more than 5 minutes and we are talking about peak times. The breakfast is always plentiful, with a wide choice and varies every day, always a place to sit. The aperitif which took place from 5pm to 6.30pm was greatly appreciated and was also varied. Pop corn or cookies are always ready at the entrance and water or lemonade to drink. Very kind and always available staff, you can leave your luggage after check out. The hotel is very close to Times Square, a 5 minute walk, and to the Port Authority metro station, therefore very accessible from JFK. Having read the previous reviews, I was abandoning the option of booking here, however I have to deny them, we had a great time and if we were to return to New York one day, the Element would definitely be our choice again!

I’ve been a member of Marriott’s Bonvoy (initially Honorguedt program since 1984. I’m currently a lifetime Platinum Member. I’ve spent 1474 nights at hotel under the Marriott umbrella plus hundreds of other hotels. That said I never left a review such as this. This hotel is the worst property I’ve ever encountered . Stayed 3 nights. The shower head leaked the first 2 nights. Had to make multiple attempts to have it repaired. The hotel only offers maid service every other day but you can request bath towels or washcloths. Took multiple calls. The phone was not working so I had to go the lobby each time for follow-up. It was a king size room and there was only a six inch clearance between the air air conditioner and the bed. They have 3 elevators, in a 42 storiy building. Any employee can take the elevator out of service if they need. On my second morning I personally saw that only 2 elevators were in service at 8:00 AM. Heavy checkout period. It literally took over 15 minutes to get down. Guests had to take an up elevator until it started downward. I saw elevators coming up and then suddenly reverse and go down. I saw the lights on the floor selection panel go completely blank so guests had to request their floor again before they passed it. This all went on over 3 days. Last the shower tends to flood as the drain is right under the shower head and the shower floor does not tilt toward the drain so there is a water built up next to the door at the back of the shower. I know the hotel has gotten some decent reviews. But, the employees I dealt with only showed they really didn’t care that much. They obviously have a major management problem

We really liked the hotel, it's a Marriott hotel, a new and spacious room, a great bed, we stayed on the 40th floor with magnificent views of the Empire State and southern Manhattan. Very good bathroom, great shower, new towels, very good and free wi-fi.
The breakfast is excellent, very filling, with fruits, juices, eggs, sausages.
The location is excellent, very close to Times Square and also close to Macy's.

We stayed at this hotel in August 2024 for 10 days. I wouldn't come back.
• Cleaning mediocre rooms, changing towels every other day, they never cleaned once on earth. Luckily we brought a Vileda and cleaned us up.
• Eating breakfast was a nightmare. To have a DIGNIFIED breakfast you had to be there at 6:30, as the breakfast room is not adequate for the number of guests. After 6:30 it was impossible to find a free table.
Several times we had breakfast standing or separated. Repetitive and very low quality food. Nowhere near the famous American breakfasts.
• 3 Insufficient lifts for the amount of people. During peak hours you had to wait more than 30 minutes to get on or off.
• Emergency management totally inadequate and unprofessional.
We were 2 days without water, due to hydraulic failure. At the reception they offered us 2 alternatives: either we waited for the repair of the fault without time and without security, or they returned the money and we had to find another hotel on August 16.
Personnel unprepared to handle these emergencies.

•Room too small for 4 people, there just is not the physical space to accommodate 4 people in those rooms.

Positive notes are the location, the gym, and the rooftop on the top floor (if you can find a free elevator).

In conclusion, if you find something else is better.

We stayed at Element for three nights, and on the first night, we discovered that the shower faucet handle had fallen off and landed on the floor. We could temporarily put it back on, but it wouldn't stay in place. Additionally, the hot water in the shower would suddenly become scalding hot and the air conditioning had a musty smell. We reported the problems to the front desk, and they said they would send an engineer to fix them. When we returned to our room in the evening, only the faucet handle had been fixed, and the other issues remained. On the second day, we went to the front desk again. A very friendly lady named Rebecca listened to our story and immediately agreed to change our room. The new room was completely problem-free. We are extremely grateful to Rebecca for saving our accommodation experience in Manhattan! Overall, the location is very convenient, and the rooms are well-equipped with facilities such as an electric stove, dishwasher, cutting board, knives, and tableware, allowing guests to cook for themselves. As a result, the hotel has a very, very high number of guests, especially during breakfast when even seating requires waiting in line. It is apparent that the hotel is understaffed and unable to properly clean and prepare rooms after guests check out for the next night's guests. Fortunately, the staff is friendly and helpful. We hope the management pays attention to the mentioned issues!
