The hotel is an excellent location and near enough to Penn Station to walk with a bag. The hotel has very large rooms with kitchens and sinks and fully stocked cabinets like an apartment. The beds are soft and roomy, and the air conditioning works perfectly. The bathrooms a bit small but are in great shape. The Front Desk staff were very friendly. Also, you receive free breakfast and happy hour. The elevators can be a bit slow especially at busy times. For the price in mid-town Manhattan, this hotel is well worth the rate. I would recommend and would return.

Prior to booking at any hotel, we always read the reviews on trip advisor. Despite what we read, we booked the Element. Prior to arriving, I called the hotel & spoke to one of the front desk managers. I explained that we were traveling with my mother who is 80 and that we were celebrating her birthday + visiting for college tours. With that being said, I had asked if there would be a way that we could get her into our room a bit earlier. The manager said that there shouldn’t be a problem. When we arrived, the lobby was bright! There were couches & few work stations. We checked in, and they said that our room would probably be ready around noon-ish. This is great news as the manager had assured me of this before we arrived, and we were now reassured of this again so that my mom wouldn’t have to sit in the lobby for around five hours! My mom had just got into the room… at 3pm. With this being a birthday trip, they had decorated our room. Shower had puddles of water when you showered, which left us all feeling dirty. No place located in the shower to put a wash cloth, toiletries, so you’re left to put them on the floor sitting in a pile of undrained water. Found in the room were also holes on the walls from where they had moved the tv, and the space next to the bed was dirty. We needed a blanket which I asked for in the evening. We received it next day. It had a big hole in it. The beds are the quality of a college bed as you could feel the springs. There is a kitchenette, and it was clean and had the basic needs. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast which was great for a quick snack! Coffee is made throughout the day which was good as well. Per previous reviews, yes, the elevators are a mess. You will wait every time that you have to use them. With us visiting from a Friday-The gym was clean & had basic needs. Vincent the bellman was very nice and held our bags, and make checkout easy! The Good- Coffee, closeness to Times Square, and the price (it was decent for a spring break trip). The Bad- Beds, Bedding, cleanliness, and mindfulness to making sure that you take care of your guests. The Truth- We use Marriott 100% and this hotel needs to be maintained. If the management team took time to invest in their room quality, linens, and elevator maintenance, this would help your reviews and quality of guests stays improve. Overall if you are looking for an affordable place to stay close to the port authority, Penn station, and times square, this is a good option! Just know that it’s not at Marriott standards, perhaps similar to the red roof inn which is considered a motel vs hotel.

While the location for us was great, many parts of the room needed serious attention. It was obvious the room had been abused, and this was certainly not the level of maintenance I expected from a Marriott property. Add to it the long wait times for the elevator, and the experience was less than stellar. The only good thing was the cost was a little less than other Marriott properties in the area. First the issues. We had a room with two double beds, and the room was barely big enough for both beds (maybe this had to do with the fact our room was the one between the two elevator banks). Next, the sink in the bathroom was cracked, with a crack running from the middle to the edge of the sink. The kitchen glass stove top was chipped, cracked and broken in a few different places. The blinds for window were out of their track. Breakfast was always packed and hard to find a table, and add to that the wait for the elevator in the morning to get down and back up, made breakfast almost unusable, and we ended up skipping it two of the days we stayed. And finally, I booked this through marriott.com to make sure I earned the points and credit for the stay as a Marriott elite, and it's been 3 weeks, and still cannot get credit for the stay.

This one was a bit of an ick for me. I was only there a night…. Both the shower and sink were clogged. The block is not great - I’d advise tourists to go a few blocks north. I’m fine staying solo but I wouldn’t have the kids here. When I went down for lunch I saw a guy do fentanyl or whatever his choice was… and when I was coming back his behind was out and he was screaming at passerby’s. This is standard for the port authority neighborhood, but it’s not the best representation of NYC. I also didn’t love the lack of security. You didn’t need your key to access your floor. Large room with fridge/kitchenette. Near the bus station and subways. Staff was nice. I avoided prime time elevator hours on purpose because of negative reviews. Overall, I won’t be back. I’ll spend the extra money and be elsewhere.

I stayed at the Element for three nights for a visit to New York. Depending on your perspective, it's location is either great or not-so-great. It's conveniently located near both the bus station as well as a train station, but the neighborhood is not especially charming and a bit gritty. The hotel itself is clean and modern but like so many newer New York hotels it's a rather large hotel with a small foot print. This means elevator waits can be long to one of the 40 floors -- especially at peak times. The breakfast room can be busy -- especially at peak times. It has a bit of a frenetic vibe. One morning I tried to enjoy a cup of coffee in the lobby but a rather large tour group had taken over most of the space with a loud talking tour leader. The rooms are well-designed, beds are comfortable but the overall design aesthetic is relatively basic. The staff is terrific -- super friendly and helpful. If you seek a centrally located hotel with a modern appearance, the Element might just suit your needs.

Element Hotel was a great value to include kitchenette in room, free breakfast, evening reception, and popcorn in the lobby. Hotel has a great location though it was poorly lit and displaced individuals gathered a few feet away openly indulging in drug activity. This is not a reflection of the hotel since this type of scenery is prominent throughout New York City. Breakfast each day made eating affordable . We were a group of three with very opposite tastes, and each of us were able to find something enjoyable. For me, the chicken sausage, prepared oatmeal, and Chobani yogurt with blueberries and granola were quite satisfying. Though the room was nice and large by NYC standards, the bedding was flimsy. The sheets and comforter thin and the pillows were flat. Asked for blankets, and they too were thin. There are design flaws with the shower in that there was no shelving to place items such as your own personal soaps or bottles. Additionally, a towel rack near the shower would have been helpful instead of having to drape your drying towel on the door handle for easy access upon exiting the shower. Lastly, regarding the bathroom, the water in the shower pooled near the entry over our four night stay. Caution was certainly needed when entering and exiting as not to slip and fall. I also suggest a full length mirror at first entry into the room. Though there is one on the bathroom door, my daughter and I were in competition for it. The availability of a folding table tray and folding compact seat since space was limited when eating in the room would have been advantageous. It was awkward to have to sit on the bed and eat. We found accuracy in other reviews that mention challenges with the elevators during peak times. However, early mornings seemed to have the least traffic during our stay. Despite these small inconveniences, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Minor improvements to the bedding, adding shelving in the shower and a towel rack next to the shower, and one table tray, and one folding stool would make this hotel perfect for our taste. Also the outside needs more lighting. This hotel will be our staple when visiting New York City nonetheless.

Staying at this property means leaving your room is like planning for the morning commute. You are likely going to be waiting 15+ minutes for an elevator. While you are waiting you can listen to the conversations happening inside of rooms because the walls are so thin. Despite a colleague getting stuck in the elevator it was never inspected or taken out of service. The hotel is so understaffed that hsouekeeping is every other day. Walking through the lobby is more akin to navigating through a busy bus or train station. NYC has hundreds of hotel options, I recommend taking this one off your list.

The hotel wasn’t bad but we didn’t get our deposit back two months after checking out. When I tried contacting them about it they just ignored me completely. Very professional! It’s a shame as we enjoyed our stay there but the lack of communication is just really bad.

My daughter and I just returned from a 4 night stay at The Element. The location is perfect - easy walking distance to theatres, Times Square, shopping, restaurants and the train station. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the kitchenette was a nice bonus. Yes, there are only 3 elevators and they are very busy in the mornings during breakfast time. The breakfast area is a little small and getting a place to sit during peak times is challenging, but we managed. My only real complaint is that our room was not cleaned or replenished at all during our stay, despite the claim that it would be every other day. I asked for another roll of toilet paper, but ended up having to take one from the supply closet myself because no one ever brought us any. Overall though, a good stay.

Cheap, poorly maintained property, more akin to a college dorm than a hotel. During my stay a woman was allegedly trapped in the elevator for two hours. If you’re looking for a cheap stay in Manhattan this might be a suitable option but would recommend spending a little more for some place nicer.
