Our overnight intercontinental flight arrived unexpectedly early, so our plan to saunter through customs, leisurely pick up our bags and take our transfer in peak hour traffic to our hotel at Bryant Park for an early lunch, finishing in time to check-in fell completely flat. There were 2 (yep, you read that correctly) people in the immigration queue, our bags arrived on the carousel before we could say abracadabra, and the transfer driver weaved his way through rush hour freeway traffic, backstreets and long forgotten alleyways to deliver us from JFK in record time. Ordinarily I’d be cheering, but on this frigid New York morning dressed in light clothing, albeit with an overcoat, we scrambled to make an alternative plan. We visited the nearby NY public library (warm) and walked through our previous mid-town neighbourhood, grabbed a bite to eat, managed a spot of shopping, only to be defeated by tiredness after a 12 hour flight and the cold NY weather. Arriving back at the Bryant Park Hotel, we upgraded to a larger room (as it was the only room available at 1 pm) for a fair but discounted price, showered and took a jet-lag reducing afternoon nap.

So the silver lining to this morning saga was the upgraded room. Plenty of room to relax, a dining table to eat on as our body clocks had not yet adjusted to NY eating times, and a large sofa to sit and enjoy a deserved glass or two of red wine. The bathroom, with separate shower and much appreciated soaking tub, felt quite spacious. Plenty of sockets to charge devices, including USB outlets. The mini bar was well stocked, and although there was no in-room capacity to make coffee, complementary muffins and coffee were available each morning in the foyer.

The check-in staff were engaging; indeed, all the staff we interacted with were helpful and friendly, adding to the charm of this smallish boutique hotel. We chose the hotel due to its proximity to the subway at Bryant Park - friends live close to the F train, and we had engagements downtown in Chinatown and nearby. It’s also convenient to a nearby wine store, Whole Foods Market and Le Pain Quotidian amongst other eateries. The hotel appears to undergoing a refurbishment; if our room was any guide, the update has a modern, almost minimalist aesthetic while being welcoming and comfortable.

My only gripe on the frigid week we visited was the layout of the ground floor foyer - every time the front doors were opened a blast of arctic air blew through the place. The lift couldn’t have arrived more quickly.

We enjoyed our Studio Suite, slightly larger than the Junior Suite we booked. It was expensive, but you need to treat yourself every now and then.

We stayed at The Bryant Park Hotel for 11 nights late August/September 2024 and this would have to be the most special hotel we have ever stayed in firstly because of the staff - Scott, Jo, Shannen, Kieran, Todd, Zauul and Dwight, their joint love of great customer service, great conversation and a genuine interest in making sure we had a great stay, the most beautiful rooms and the most perfect location.

Situated right across the road from the entrance to Bryant Park, it is an amazing location with so many great amenities within their block between 5th & 6th Avenue on West 40th Street. The hotel is definitely an oasis in the middle of this busy beautiful city and was always so nice to come back to at night or to just walk across the road and sit and relax in Bryant Park with a coffee or wine.

We had a 6 night stay, 2 days upstate and then came back for another 5 nights. We had paid for Junior Suites for both our stays and we very lucky to be given brand new rooms on the 6th and then 9th floor with such nice views over Bryant Park. There were ear pods beside our bed and we expected it to be noisey but couldn't hear a thing! The rooms are really beautiful and way larger than any NYC hotel we have stayed in. The bathroom is probably bigger than alot of hotel rooms. It felt just like your own beautiful room in your house.

Every morning we (well I) would go downstairs and get coffee and muffins from the foyer and have in our room before we headed out for the day. It was great coffee, and the muffins were delicious. When I decided to venture out and get something for breakfast in our room, the selection of places just within that one block are amazing, so much choice.

This was the 9th time we had stayed in NYC, always prior abit close to Times Square (this is only a couple of blocks away), but we just loved coming back to this quiet Oasis, the staff and our room at The Bryant Park. We will definitely be back same time next year.

I probably can't emphasise enough how great the staff in this hotel are. Every time we came or went they acknowledged us, knew our names and were interested in what we were doing. I have never experienced that before in a hotel of this size. They truly love what they are doing and love taking care of their guests.

Thanks so much The Bryant Park Hotel, New York City - we loved our time, your location, rooms and the staff are the best. Oh, and the weather was perfect for our entire stay.

Love, Ally & Mike K xx

The Bryant Park Hotel has my heart. It is one of those truly unique, hidden gems of NYC and once you find it, you will never want to leave. Its neatly tucked next to Bryant Park, so the location is everything - you can walk to so much, there is a major subway stop on the same block, in the summers you can watch Broadway in the Park or Movie Nights from your hotel room. Time Square is a couple blocks over with Rockefeller Plaza and Grand Central Station around the corner. But the one thing that truly makes this hotel unique - its people!! Jo Kinsella at the front desk, along with Scott, Rey and Paul Volkmer not only know your name but remember you every time you walk in the door. Its like coming home to a warm hug! The best news is the ROOM PRODUCT!!!!! Holy cow... the most amazing remodel of the rooms I have ever seen. The room touches from tons of outlets and ports, to hardwood floors, soaking tubs, large umbrellas, reusable bags, hanging bags in the closets, Molton Brown amenities... I can go on and on. But this is a must stay, must see on your next visit!

I'll start with the positives - The location is great. You can navigate around NYC on foot and see most of the must-see areas. Our room (Park View Queen Room) was nice, there were multiple windows with views of Bryant Park and the BOA winter village, during the day, our room had an ample amount of sunlight and we enjoyed that. The room itself was well-maintained, clean and aesthetically nice, featuring dark wood, bronze, and hints of dusty blue ( chair and carpet ), a marble shower and the overall bathroom floor. The bathroom has multiple windows, a shower and tub, and a decent-sized vanity space. The doorman throughout our stay, even though was different every day, remained professional, greeted and opened the door for guests.

Here are the less-than-ideals that we've encountered during our stay:

During check-in (December 17th), while Shannon assisted us with the entire process, we wished we received a more hospitable attitude. When we entered the elevator, we noticed it was surprisingly small, it seemed as though it would not comfortably fit 3 or more 5'10 - 6' men with luggage. When we arrived at our level, the hallway essentially has no decoration of any kind, it looked very plain and filled with the smell of sushi. The rain shower pressure was rather weak, and the cups provided for brushing your teeth were plastic, we expected glass for this level of hotel. The Celon bar next to the lobby has an unacceptably small cocktail/wine list, despite the nice Mediterranean decor and vibe. On December 18th, we wanted to visit for a drink but the bar was hosting a semi-private event for PWC, after checking out the area, we decided to leave due to the subpar drinks list and the exceptionally loud music.

The thing that cost our anticipated pleasant stay was the construction. When we made the initial booking, we were not informed at all about their external construction, even when we checked in, nothing was mentioned. When we entered the room, we discovered there was scaffolding all over, extending to our bathroom windows. There were workers and I had to close the blinds to the bathroom before I can use the toilet. We booked the park view room thinking we would get unobstructed views, turns out, most of the time we had to at least have the sheer curtains down so we don't constantly make eye contact with the workers. Ideally, we would've enjoyed waking up to the beautiful view every morning, instead, we wake up to either workers yelling out for each other, looking at them sitting there taking breaks, or the obstructed park view. We've stayed at other properties where construction took place, they all notified us of it in advance and apologized for the inconvenience caused, and some even offered compensation, unfortunately, nothing from this hotel. On the eve of our checkout, we came back to a letter saying they were having ongoing construction work, but our stay was already ruined by then.

If there's no construction, I assume it would've been much nicer but since that wasn't our experience, I cannot comment on that. There's plenty of room for improvement for this property, and depending on the situation we might or might not return to this hotel.

Our Stay

My family and I (2 adults 2 children 1 and 5yo) recently visited the Bryant Park Hotel for a family wedding (July 2023).

The hotel's decor is a bit tired but the rooms were clean and the staff was exceptional! I spend 30+ nights a year in Ritz Carlton hotels and I will say the staff at the Bryant Park strives for the same level of customer care. We did not care for our first room but the staff was very accommodating and offered a reasonably priced upgrade fee to move into a larger room with wood flooring.

We upgraded our stay to a 1BR corner suite. The suite was filled with light and very clean. The overall decor and furnishings of the hotel are lacking but my understanding is that they have begun a complete refresh of the furnishings to be done later this year.

Location

The location is superb! Being right next to Bryant Park the hotel provides an oasis in a busy city. There are a number of nearby restaurants and we particularly like Peccora and The Bryant Park Grill.

The subway is also located just on the corner and there is an amply sized curb cut for transportation making it easy for Ubers or car services to wait and safe to get in and out of your vehicle.

Service

The staff was simply amazing! The front door was consistently held for our family and we were greeted by name and with a smile. Each day our house keeper Tadshi ensured we had fresh linens, a sparkling room and took extra care to change the bedding on our 1 year olds pack and play and ensure it was "just right."

The entire team went out of their way to make our stay great. Ronan made my daughters smile each time they walked in, Veronica and Shannen were there for all of our needs but the star of the show was Jo who did not rest until we had all of our needs met.

At each turn the staff looked for ways to improve our stay.

Services

The fitness center needs improvement and is awkwardly located across from a guest room making noise an issue. That said Bryant Park offers a wonderful setting for outdoor exercise and on the morning of our arrival had a group yoga event with hundreds of participants.

The morning coffee service was great and featured locally baked muffins and illy coffee. Throughout the day the team (I believe Keith or Kevin) updated the lobby table with fruit infused waters.

When it rained the staff had umbrellas ready which was unexpected but welcome.

The bar located in the basement is very cool and has a bohemian vibe. The cocktails were well composed, utilized the finest spirits and fresh ingredients.

We did not eat at Koi but several friends, there for the wedding, did and had good things to say.

Overall

The Bryant Park hotel is very fairly priced and provided calm on what could have been a stressful family weekend trip. I look forward to staying there again in the near future and experiencing the upgraded rooms.

Stayed at the Bryant Park Hotel for 4 nights in December and there is not one reason why it is number 1 on Trip Advisor out of 499 hotels in NYC but several reasons. First is the staff who are the most genuine. Always happy to help. Starting with John Castillo and his amazing front desk staff, especially Jo and Shannon. The bellmen Ray, Dominic and Ronan are always on top of it as well. (It was fun to learn that several of the staff live where I grew up in Woodside Queens). Second, the building is a marvel in itself. from the Black and Gold Gothic Facade to it's history. Third is location, can't beat it. Far enough away from the craziness that NYC can become but close enough to all the action and a subway station on the corner. Centrally located in midtown very easy to get downtown or uptown. The rooms are large, functional and very comfortable with lots of windows even in the large bathroom. We had a Park View corner room and it had 5 large windows, 3 in the bedroom and 2 in the bathroom. with only 128 rooms and 2 quick elevators it was always quick to get to the room and back to the lobby even with being on the 16th floor. I will say the rooms are in need of an update and my understanding is that is in process. It's not that they are shabby or anything and all the furniture is well maintained and in good shape as is everything else in the room, just the style is dated. Celon bar in the basement is very special and a must try. Ambience, staff and drinks all shine here. Koi restaurant is good and once again the staff, ambience and service all shine here. Food is very good but not great. It can get very noisy inside so keep that in mind if you need to have an important conversion at dinner. Room rates are some of the best you'll find in NYC given the location of the hotel and size of the rooms compared to many other surrounding hotels in the area. The free coffee and muffins in the lobby are a nice touch and the coffee is top shelf. I will be retuning to the Bryant Park hotel in May for my second stay and very much looking forward to it.

We stayed here for a 3-night visit to enjoy a few Broadway shows and the holiday sights and sounds. We had a low-floor room (at our request), and were on the 4th floor (the lowest floor w/ rooms) overlooking Bryant Park (through scaffolding).

It appeared that the floor must have been remodeled recently - everything seemed new. The room was VERY spacious (for NYC), with a VERY large bathroom (shower and bath, one sink, lots of counter space). Room was extremely quiet. Despite being near the street, the window seemed soundproof, and we slept well.

Jo (Josephine), the hotel manager who greeted us on arrival, was fantastic. Though we could not check in on arrival (we were early; we could have paid $100 for early check-in, but chose not to). We took her recommendations for lunch, and ate down the street at Heritage Restaurant - excellent choice.

Our room was ready on time. When we got back to the hotel, we explained that we would have to be at LaGuardia early Thanksgiving morning for our flight home. We knew that streets would be closed, and traffic constrained. Jo's response? "No problem!" She arranged a cab that waited for us at Madison & 40th, and got us to LaGuardia quickly.

Housekeeping was attentive. Hotel had muffins and coffee out each morning for guests. We ate in the hotel restaurant one morning; an a-la-carte breakfast that was reasonably priced for a full-service NYC hotel (~$80 for the two of us, including two full breakfasts and tip).

Enjoyed being next to Bryant Park for the holiday market. Not as close to Theater District as we've enjoyed on earlier stays (lots of walking as a result), but we will very likely stay here again - due to their hospitality (Thanks, Jo!).

The Junior King Suite was a perfect choice for my family getaway. Spacious, very tidy, and comfortable, it offered a great home base for our three day adventure in the city. Our suite overlooked the beautiful Bryant Park. The staff was attentive. The elevators were wonderfully quick. The hotel has a beautiful lower level bar, where we enjoyed a cocktail at the end of the day. Our Junior Suite included a large bathroom that had both a deep soaking tub and separate shower. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel accommodated our request for a microwave and a hotpot. There were free muffins and coffee in the morning at the hotel, or there were other very delicious breakfast spots on or near the block. There is a subway stop at the end of the block. This was a splurge for me, yet the value for the money seemed very worth the memories. I would stay here again.

Despite the excellent service and care we recieved and the lovely room we had - I took one star off and I will elaborate. The staff does their best despite being busy to accomodate your needs and offer suggestions for dining and getting around. Be prepared to walk and/or take subways and busses here. It is very difficult to get a cab. Granted it was during the holidays but we have been in this area before and it is largely zoned for busses and most of the cabs are full with riders who have picked them up elsewhere. The staff does try very hard to arrange a cab for you but have a back up plan just in case. The room was extremely clean and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and we loved the space heater. I ttook one star off because there is a privacy button you turn on to signal "do not disturb" to the staff and the button remains lit outside your door until your turn it off. We had 3 incidents where the staff ignored the privacy button completely and came into our room. One time we were out and they came in and cleaned the room despite the privacy button being turned on. We had left some valuables out and that is why we turned the button on. Thankfully nothing was taken and from then on we used and locked the room safe. The second time we were taking an afternoon nap and put the privacy button on. The staff knocked. We got up to answer but by then they had walked into the room with their "key." They asked if we needed supplies for the in room bar which was odd because we had not used one thing from the bar during our stay. The third time we had the privacy button on and the cleaning person walked in asking if we needed bathroom products. This was actually quite upsetting to use that THREE times this happened. It really is a violation and I hope the hotel reads this and will address it. Otherwise we had the best time in NY and hope to go back to visit very soon but we will think about this issue before booking again.

Dear Lily, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the excellent service, the comfortable room, and the amenities, and that our team worked hard to accommodate your needs. However, we sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with the privacy button. We understand how important privacy is, and we are truly sorry that this was compromised during your stay. This is certainly not the standard we aim to provide, and we take your concerns seriously. Rest assured, we will be addressing this issue with our team to ensure that it does not happen again in the future. We also appreciate your feedback about transportation, and we understand that navigating the area during the holidays can be challenging. We hope that despite this experience, you'll consider staying with us again in the future. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and we wish you all the best in your future travels. Best, Siobhan

The room was spacious, well soundproofed, functional and very bright. In fact, it had two windows in the large bathroom area and three in the bedroom itself. The magnificent view of Bryant Park increased our satisfaction. Another positive point is the parquet floor; the absence of carpet was much appreciated.
The hotel is really close to Times Square and several subway stops, but despite this the area is rather quiet; quiet, of course, by the standards of a big city like NYC.
The reception, let's face it, isn't great, but the staff is very friendly. We appreciated the effort to speak in a way that was easily understandable even for a tourist who is not a native English speaker.
It should be noted that excellent fresh water is always available at the reception and, in the morning, coffee and muffins. Optimal.
The only thing that was a bit discordant was that on two occasions the room, which was always clean and perfectly prepared, was only made up around 5pm. In our opinion, definitely too late.
Is the hotel expensive? Yes, but if you want quality you also have to pay for it and we have certainly found it here.
Definitely recommended.

Not only is it a boutique hotel, there is an exceptional restaurant adjacent to the lobby - Koi - and an incredible cocktail lounge in the cellar - Celon. (keep this a secret though, don't tell anyone)

This is an excellent hotel. From my experience I would say it does not have any hidden fees. Any fees are clearly published if you book directly on the hotel website, for example a facility fee of around $21 a night.
