The hotel is in a great location, it’s a relatively good price, but there were a lot of nuisances that ruined the experience. First, while the very similarly named and located Riu New York Times Square offers free breakfast, this location does not. However they will charge you a $66 facility fee to essentially use WiFi that is so convoluted to use, I didn’t even bother connecting. I don’t really appreciate facility charges that offer nothing that isn’t standard at any other hotel. Next, the elevators barely worked. This is a place that requires you to swipe your card and press the floor, except that didn’t work one day (and we just avoided that elevator going forward). The next day the elevator just stopped on a floor and refused to move anywhere. We got off and decided to hike the remaining floors to get to our room. Lastly, the room is pretty bare bones. The pillows are very small and not comfy. The phone doesn’t even have a number to call down to the desk (when we needed more than 2 towels for 3 guests). The only provided shampoo/conditioner/body wash is a 3-in-1 solution. The bed made super loud noises when just sitting on it. Additionally the floor is some composite vinyl and not the comfiest to stand on. If you are trying to find a cheap hotel that is centrally located, this place is it, but don’t expect anything special. You would think this is a ritzy boutique hote based on the lobby, but that’s merely a facade for the rest of the hotel.…
If you want to be in the middle of all the action and want a new, clean and safe place to rest then this is your spot. Nice full breakfast buffet is available each morning. Elevators are busy during the breakfast hours so plan accordingly.
It was a great stay. The breakfast was the best part of the hotel. Rooms are clean - with a good view . Only down part not every staff is speaking English- so it was hard to understand each other with a cleaner - but the reception has sorted out . The location is perfect, 1 minute away from Times Square. Definitely worth every penny!
Plain hotel in an excellent location just along from the red steps of Times Square. Clean and welcoming. Very busy reception area. Excellent breakfast selection and the staff were lovely. Would be happy to stay again whenever I am in New York City.
Myself and my daughter have just left this hotel after spending 4 nights there for our birthdays. The hotel has been very good, rooms good quality. The lifts are very busy and so slow at busy times ie breakfast, we have waited on the 35th floor for over 20 mins to get the lift to reception, not good when you have excursions booked! The most horrendous thing was as we were leaving the hotel our private transfer pulled in to collect us and we were just about to put our cases in the car and the concierge very sternly said 'i will do that' so we had to let him. We both got on the car and he started shouting for a top, we apologised and explained we had no dollars left as we were leaving for the airport and he began shouting 'so I'll work for free to serve you then' he came close to the car window and was very aggressively shouting even our driver explained to him we had no cash and to not be so rude! To be honest it was not the end to a lovely stay we planned and will be very wary to use the hotel again!…
Weirdest thing are the queen beds are pushed together. However they are easily separated. Thankfully. The bathroom door is also opaque. The room itself is small, but we couldn’t hear any noise from the hotel or road!! Biggest pet peeve: $33/ night resort fee for the gym and 2 bottles of water 🙄
Please don’t stay at this Hotel in Manhattan NewYork. RIU Plaza Manhattan charged me $750 after I departed for apparently breaking the TV. Now this TV is wall mounted with a cabinet in front of it, I requested photos of the TV but have received nothing. I escalated this to the General Manager “Katharina Doehler” hoping she maybe able to assist and see that this was not true and the hotel staff never contacted or advised me about the TV. I only found the extra charge on my credit card. If I broke anything my travel insurance would cover this and I would have told them. This RIU Plaza Is very dishonest and the management is unhelpful. Please don’t stay here and avoid unauthorised charges to your credit card.
My mini vacation spent at The Rui was absolutely amazing!! From check in to check out it was perfect…. the room, the service, the restaurant and most of all the employees! I am so looking forward to visiting again!
Good hotel in prime position Room for 4 adults was far too small for ten day stop. No room for clothes, but was clean. Need to be high up to see the night skyline. Breakfast was good. Ny was hideously expensive as dollar and £ had fallen out. Meant we lived off pizza slices for 4 which still cost £30. Fab hols. New year was hideously busy n would not recommend as queues everywhere.
The hotel is nice and is located close to the theatres and great restaurants. Check in was smooth and our stay was fine until housekeeping entered the room when the Do Not Disturb sign was on the door!! This lower my overall experience rating! Personal items were left out that would not have been left out, and clothes that were on the bed were balled up and put in the open nightstand!! I notified and complained to Regina in management, received an apology, but no explanation or follow up.
