The W New York - Times Square boasts a prime location that is highly praised for its proximity to NYC's iconic attractions, though some guests have had trouble hailing rideshares. While the hotel's cleanliness receives commendations, especially for the diligent and amiable staff, opinions on the atmosphere and room decor tend to skew negative, with a lack of style and modernity being a common critique. Room sizes and outdated amenities have also been points of contention, and although the service has its highs, inconsistencies have been noted. The value proposition of the hotel is questioned by many, with hidden costs and pricey extras contributing to the concern.

The hotel is at a great location and has great views! The highlight for us was breakfast buffet at Foundry and their amazing staff. I specially want to recognize Felicia the hostess and Gladys who was our server most days. Loved how they made all felt welcomed, remember guests and Felicia even made sure we seat at our preferred table (we were traveling with 10 year old son that wanted to watch Disney channel ;)).
Food was delicious and a great convenience if you are traveling with kids before you hit the tourist attractions.
It’s $35 for full buffet but they give it for free for two people if you are a premier member.
Will definitely recommend the hotel.
There were some hickups though: room service comes early and if you don’t call the front desk if you are leaving after breakfast, housekeeping most likely won’t service your room. Also Bonvoy app messages are not always read by staff. After we complained they were on it.
Another important item: if you need a refrigerator you need to ask and pay for one ($20), so just be mindful of that.
Other than that a great location and Foundry staff.

We love the location of this hotel and the staff at the front desk have always been helpful. The rooms are always clean and the beds comfortable.

Was not happy that we rarely get upgraded even with Titanium status. This is always a frustration because the hotel always says they are completely booked.

This hotel has 57 floors and features 509 rooms & suites, 3 restaurants and bars, a 24 hour gym and a stylish décor.

At the time of visiting this hotel, I was a Titanium Elite member under the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme. I booked a skyline view room with 2 double beds which averaged out to $700 per night. (3 adults sharing). I thought, being a Titanium member, I would receive a complimentary upgrade. However, I read many reviews of New York hotels having little to no upgrades when it comes to suites. So, I didn’t want to chance it and I used my SNA (Suite Night Award) upgrade perk under the elite benefits of the loyalty programme.

You can watch the full review on YouTube at Luxury Vegan Travel.

I chose to be upgrade to a Marvellous Suite which was successful! The room was nice and had plenty of space, a separate lounge and bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms and 2 TVs! Watch the video for the full details.

As an elite member, when checking in, I was given an option of a welcome amenity on top of complimentary breakfast! The choice was 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points or a $10 food & beverage credit.

The hotel charges a $25 destination fee, daily! Many think this is because they are staying in Time Square. However, the hotel, like most in New York, does not have a swimming pool, BUT, within the destination fee, the hotel can provide you with a voucher to use at a nearby gym (about 5-10 minutes walk) where they do have a swimming pool! Pretty cool! However, there is a decent gym onsite (more for cardio and a few weights machines and dumbbells).

The complimentary ‘elite’ breakfast is limited to a small menu (shown on the video) but they do also have an a la carte menu. Sadly, the elite menu does not have any egg dishes for those of you who eat eggs. These and other western breakfast options like bacon will need to be purchased from the a la carte menu. They did have almond milk for those of you who don’t drink dairy milk.

Overall, as an elite member very close to reaching the top tier (Ambassador), I don’t think the breakfast is very good, especially compared with hotels almost in touching distance like the JW Marriott Marquis or JW Marriott Essex House. If I plan to visit Time Square again, I would choose a different hotel, with more benefits for elite members. However, if you are not an elite member or are gold or below, then this isn’t much of an issue and otherwise, the hotel is in a good location.

Check out the video on YouTube at Luxury Vegan Travel and I hope you enjoy it!

Our experience at W New York – Times Square was disappointing, especially given the high expectations associated with the W brand.
1. Poor Service: Whenever we requested something from housekeeping, it took three follow-ups to get a response. The staff consistently cited being understaffed as an excuse for the delay, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber.
2. Small and Low-Quality Rooms: The room was extremely small, and the quality felt far below the standard we’ve experienced at W Hotels in other countries. It felt more like a budget accommodation than a luxury hotel.
3. Noisy Environment: The rooms were not soundproof, and we could hear people talking and walking in the corridors very clearly, making it hard to relax or sleep.
4. Tiny Bathroom: The bathroom was uncomfortably small, and there were loud water noises at night, adding to the discomfort.
5. Lack of Assistance: Upon arrival, there was no one to assist with our luggage, leaving us to manage everything on our own. This lack of basic hospitality was shocking.
Overall, the experience fell far below expectations, and we would not recommend this hotel, especially given the high cost and reputation of the W brand
6. Breakfast - they have no dedicated restaurant and the mexican they have which offers breakfast the menu is very very poor
7. Found charges later that were never mentioned during check in and had benefits associated with the charges that were never given or mentioned

The lobby and rooms are dark and very tacky.

The front desk charged my card twice for my stay and the person at the reception was very unhelpful. I requested for an acknowledgment email from the finance but despite confirmation did not receive any. On the day of the checkout a third charge was made to my card for the same stay. Again the person at the front desk was not available to help and kept treating it as a trivial issue, hence I had to escalate it to the manager and it is now in the process of being resolved.

At the time of checkout, I called multiple times for someone to help me with the luggage down as I had a flight to catch. No one turned up for 45 minutes and the room card became dysfunctional at 12 sharp while was I was locked out of my room with my luggage inside. When I went to the reception to seek help for a new room card I was directed to a wait which was 30 minutes long and told very rudely that nothing can be done about it except wait for my turn. All this while I informed them that I had a flight in a few hours!

If the hotel could focus on making lives comfortable for the guests rather than making it tougher, it has a remote chance of becoming a better property because of the central location.

The bell desk boy Ingel and the manager Bryanna were the only helpful people among all the staff members that I encountered.

Good luck to the people who have already made reservations at this property!

We woke up to find a bug on the pillow I just had my head on! We immediately grabbed it with a tissue, put it in the sink to take a photo and took it in a glass to the lobby desk. The desk clerk took the glass somewhere in the back and came back only to offer me 5,000 points for my trouble! When I said no that is ridiculous he brought out the manager on duty who offered to escalate the matter- I told them I wanted my one night stay refunded. When I returned to my room the manager called with in minutes offering to increase the point return to 10,000 and had the audacity to say the property would have to investigate if the bug came from there! Are you serious Marriott!! As a titanium elite and loyal Bonvoy member I have never been so disrespected! Exactly what are you teaching your managers to do in this situation other than accuse loyal patrons!
We also had black mold in the corner of the shower- do better!

This hotel is not cheap but it could not be more centrally located. Broadway Theatres are literally a step away. Fifth Avenue and the fabulous shopping is easy walking difference. It’s a little unusual in that check in is not on the ground floor but the staff were extremely helpful at all time. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom very high class, so much so I took photos to show my family. I only used the bar out of the available facilities but the cocktail was generous and delicious (pineapple base) and the staff were attentive without being overwhelming.

If I had a special occasion or business I would definitely stay here but for regular holiday visits I would go a little more downmarket.

Great location for a person seeking the heart of Times Square. There are various levels of rooms so don’t be offended if you don’t book a city view and then get a window with a view of a building. The entrance was decent, yet for a W hotel, I never saw a doorman on site. We never had staff assist us with our bags either. The initial impression after the primary door is decent. They turned it into an sort of underwater experience. With this being said the four nights we stayed there I also never once saw a security guard as you first enter leaving a bit of safety concerns up for grabs. From there you have to catch an elevator up to the main lobby which is nicely decorated. Upon checking in don’t expect to be greeted with a smile (even if you have rank as a bonvoy member). Just get your key and go. As for the room the overall appearance is dependent upon the level of room you choose, so to be impartial I won’t give my opinion on the rooms. I will though, continue to comment on the lackluster service as that aspect should be stellar across the board. Upon asking for recommendations for the city we were handed a crumbled, partially torn paper with a generous number of locations, no additional information was provided by the staff. The night before checking out I found myself in need of a razor. I called guest services and they advised they’d be able to provide one. 40 minutes had passed and still no razor. After burning much time just waiting, I decided it would probably be faster for me to walk to CVS buy one and come back (which it was). Again, I mention the location is prime Times Square making every item the hotel forgets to bring you, easily found and easily accessible by foot. The cocktails at the “Living Room” bar are horrible. They range from $20-25 per cocktail and if you light a cigarette near it, you’ll probably catch on fire from the amount of unshaken liquor in the glass. A heavy pour isn’t always a good pour especially when you’re looking to actually be able to walk the city. We have the living room bar 3 tries before deciding to just have our first set of cocktails outside of the establishment. A benefit is that the W gives you $25 to spend at the bar daily with your $25 resort fee. For the first time in my life free wasn’t actually better. I really would love a call from someone at the establishment as I am certain the experiences my wife and I dealt with are not the “norm”. Overall, do not recommend. I would recommend The NY Marriott Marquis.

Is my tenth W hotel I have ever been and was not worth its price. You Pay for a luxurious brand but the rooms and service are not so lux at all.

I prepaid the hotel and I thought on the check in I have no more extra costs. But not, the hotel policy is you have to pay for each day extra 30USD to be able to have free wifi, have a trip organised by them to Statue of Liberty, and spend the 30usd to their living room bar. Hotels with 2-3 stars offer free wifi and w ask u to pay for that. REDICULOUS. I also don’t drink alcohol why am I obligated to pay the 30usd. They force the guests to pay that so their bar can sell some drinks else nobody will go there. All about their Profit.

The rooms have a nice view but standard equipped. No breakfast buffet. Just some restaurant down but with bad breakfast quality. 50m away from
The hotel it full was full of garbage

Every year that I've been to Manhattan, I'll stay some other properties, including The Westin.

This time, I had the privilege to stay in W New York, and I've heard good things about the infamous bar.

We had a room facing Marriott Marquis, and on a daily basis, given that I'm a Marriott Bonvoy member, we get complimentary gifts. The New York destination fee also allows us to redeem complimentary drinks at W Bar.

I expected more rowdy music but great indie music and nice sofas, complimented by great service.

Shout out to a lovely and fun-loving concierge team. Keep up the first moment of service truth.

So actually, some of the corner rooms have at least a great view of Times Square so you would get the whole vibe if you selected one of those. About getting out onto the street to see the ball. You... might... but, the way they close off the center into ribboned areas and with the crowds... good luck! But its worth a try!

I don't think so. This is prime real estate in Times Square. it seems highly unlikely that it would be used for a homeless shelter. I've been staying here for over a decade- can't imagine that.
