Virgin Hotels New York City stands out for its central location, which guests love for its convenience to attractions and transport. The hotel's atmosphere is often described as modern and stylish, although some guests find the trendy design comes at the expense of practicality. While the rooms are praised for cleanliness and views, they are also noted to be on the small side with some layout issues.
Amenities are appreciated, but additional fees have left some guests feeling the hotel is overpriced. Service experiences vary, with commendations for staff friendliness alongside critiques regarding service inconsistencies.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed for 5 nights in August with the family on vacation and couldn’t have been happier here. First things first… the views and location! Away from the madness of Times Sq but close enough for all the touristy stuff if you want. Beautifully set against the back drop of the Empire State Building. (See the photos!) The area was safe and good to walk around and lots of very nice restaurants and eateries nearby.
The hotel team were lovely and helpful and the whole place had a very ‘cool’ vibe without being intimidating. Very happy with the service.
The room felt relatively spacious for four of us considering this is NYC. The layout of the separate dressing areas, toilet closet and shower cubicle is a clever design.
The massive bonus for us travelling with kids in the heat of August was the rooftop swimming pool. Not a huge pool but perfect for a cooling dip after a day travelling the hot city. It did get busy with guests at times but we always managed to find a lounger.
I’ve read some reviews saying they had problems with the lifts / elevators. Wasn’t an issue for us, in fact the lifts were incredibly efficient. Just tap your room card and it automatically calls a lift to one of their 30 or so floors. Never had to wait more than a few seconds.
We had a breakfast inclusive rate and the food in their restaurant Everdene was excellent. All the breakfast is a la carte and cooked to order…. Pancakes, waffles, eggs you name it. Felt like a real luxury to have a proper sit down breakfast everyday rather than a buffet.
There was some confusion on how the breakfast rate worked and what was / wasn’t included but this was quickly sorted by the reception team.
So overall a strong ‘yes’ recommendation from me for this hotel. If you are going to NYC and looking for modern luxury, a relaxed but cool atmosphere and well located then this could be for you!

Hotel's Favourite
The Virgin Hotel is exciting for many reasons. And this new property in the prime location of midtown Manhattan lives up to its expectation. The interior design is chic and fun, encompassing a wealth of furniture and art collections that scream the creative and artistic spirits that the Virgin brand is offering. I love the view of my room, with the Empire State Building right outside my window. The windows can be pushed out a bit, allowing fresh air coming in, which I love.
The dining experience at the Everdene was a delightful and enjoyable one. The food was delicious and the menu offers various healthy options. The service overall lives up to its promise, but I have to say that there can be more improvements on housekeeping’s responsiveness.
Even though there are plenty of competitive options around this area, I decided to stay here for another night. The GM Ms. Cancino did a great job ensuring that my experience here was a comfortable and memorable one. I’m excited to see what more this hotel can offer once all the rooms and facilities are made available in the coming months, especially the outdoor pool and bar. It will be a hit.

Dear Taralovestea, I appreicate your feedback! It has been noted and addressed to the team to incorporate in their daily training topics. We have adjusted the espresso machines so that you do not need to hold the mug and provide your comment about the sink to the engineering team for review. Again am so sorry that you felt the hotel service was below par and rest assured we take measures to continue our customer service training.

I never quite get why new build hotels massively fail to soundproof from the outside world. I get it stands right on Broadway but it’s ever so noisy, mostly from the outdoor speakers on the roof deck but also not helped by the cute but extremely noisy Smeg fridge! I ended up having to move on night three as the bass from the bar was driving me crazy and had to unplug the fridge! I was then moved to a room with broken air con and still noisy! I guess if you want a restful night you’ve got to pay for the pleasure by upgrading to a high floor room.
The bed was kind of comfy, the blackout curtains were anything but which hung irregular and didn’t meet, the curtain instead of a wardrobe door massively cheapens what could be a great dressing area and the luggage rack fits anything other than a standard sized case.
Service was hit and miss from trying to make a booking on their website to eventually giving up and utilising booking.com. The bar lacks soul and atmosphere, feels like you’re sat in a corridor as if it was an after thought, skip it completely and sit on the roof deck which is pretty cool to be fair.
The lady’s serving breakfast and on front desk do however deserve a shout out. They clearly know what they’re doing and the red jacket clad Colombian door man was always super helpful.
I downloaded the app but using it as a key failed at every opportunity as well as curating your preferences that have zero worth.
It kind of has CitizenM vibes but with a way heftier price tag.
Also. What’s with the elevators….. they’ve a mind of their own…….???

Dear Simontravels1980, Many thanks for taking the time to write us a review. I appreicate your feedback as we continuous work on improvements. We understand the frustration and our team is working on resolving the issues in particular with the air conditioning and SMEG refrigerators (we have contacted the company to swap out) and the elevators. I hope you can give us a second chance!

This was our first trip to NYC, we were originally due to stay in a different hotel and changed quite close to our holiday and I am so pleased we did!
Every single member of staff was friendly and helpful, they couldn’t do enough. The bar is a beautiful area and they make perfect cocktails to either start or end your evening. We only had breakfast once in the hotel on our last day as our trip was so jam
packed but we couldn’t fault it, great food and fantastic service.
We stayed in an empire view room and WOW, what a view. We loved watching the sunrise every morning and as we had a high up room (32nd) floor, there was no street noise at all so peaceful sleep every night. The room was cleaned every afternoon and was spacious enough for us given we were out all day every day, it had a large bed, dressing area and separate toilet and shower. You can easily control the temperature in the room and the window opens up too.
The only criticism is the reception area doesn’t have the same wow factor as the rest of the hotel, but the service and the other areas make up for it.
Location wise it’s in a great spot, very easy access to the subway stations and in walking distance of lots of the main attractions.
This will definitely be our hotel of choice for our next visit!

I enjoyed my stay at Virgin Hotel NYC. I came to NYC for a conference and liked the location, close enough to restaurants and public transportation but not too busy or crowded. The bed and pillows were extremally comfortable. The view was spectacular and the room was very clean. I like that there was a door dividing the bathroom/shower area so that my husband could get ready earlier than me and not disturb my sleep. The food in Everdeen was scrumptious and the service was fantastic. The night life on the terrace nightly was so fun and lively. The hotel offered so much for the price I paid. Did I mention that there was a pool and lovely deck to relax on? I will be staying at more Virgin Hotels in the future especially since the bed was so very comfortable and I woke up feeling refreshed. PS my friends stayed at another large chain and complained about how uncomfortable their beds were. Glad I chose Virgin for my stay!

A beautiful hotel, modern style and rooms. Our room was fantastic and it has a complete clear view of the empire state.
I stayed in a room with my two sisters, it was spacious, clean and modern.
I had to ask the front desk to kit us out with everything in the room for 3 people as it didn’t cater for us all when we arrived. Robes, glasses, cups and towels something i don’t think I should have to raise.
The coffee machine didn’t work in the room the whole time and I asked a number of staff and cleaning staff but it was never fixed. I would say that all we wanted was a kettle so we could make a breakfast tea which I brought with me and milk. So doesn’t need to be fancy with a coffee machine.
I asked as soon as we arrived whether breakfast was included and we were promised an email from the front desk after it was researched but that email never came.
Prior to arriving I emailed the hotel (a few weeks before) asking if they could source a ‘50’ balloon for my sisters birthday and for it to be in the room when we arrived, I had no response atall. There were some breakdowns in communication which I feel brings down the star quality of this hotel. I know it’s in the early days but it’s those little things that make a difference. I look at the price of the hotel too and realise that we could of got the same quality at the Ace hotel which is on the same street.
Just a word of advice, we arrived and 400 dollars was taken off our card it was swiftly returned once we checked out but it was a huge chunk of our holiday dosh so thinking about it I really wished I’d put that on a credit card and not used my holiday dollars.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but a few details being polished would of made the trip perfect.

Great hotel and great location. We spent here one week with the family. Rooms were clean and in good shape. Our room was on the 27th floor and we hardly heard any traffic noise except emergency vehicles. Also the room doors were very sound proof. The hotel staff was really helpful (especially Jestin who helped us personally with the check-out) and they were also kind to children. We strongly recommend to take the breakfast package. The breakfast room is really nice with great views of the Empire State building. It is an à la carte breakfast with very high quality and also very peaceful.
The swimming pool wasn’t open yet, which was little dissapointing to our children.
Location is so great that we were able to walk to most of the places with our 10 year olds. For example the shopping streets, Madison Square Garden, Bryant Park and Times Square are within walking distance. The near est subway station is only two blocks away and we also used it a lot. Metro card for the whole week was a good investment for us.
Next time, when we come here, we will stay at the Virgin hotel again.

I‘ve been to Nee York City many times, and it‘s never easy to find a good hotel.
This hotel is in a great location, it‘s new and clean. They fail to let you know that the rooms are so tiny that there is literally no real place to put your clothes, and there is no real bathroom. When you enter the room, you are standing in the bathroom, literally. A glass door to a toilet cubicle, a glass door to a shower cubicle, the sink is literally at the door.
There is absolutely no space to put one suitcase, let alone two. If you use the room by yourself or are here only for a weekend, it might work ok.

Just checked, my stay at the end of 2023 was prepaid in terms of daily/NY taxes. Unusual in the US as normally you do have to pay the daily taxes on top. Maybe it depends who you book with.
Varies. Check the deals. Trip advisor has deals as well
Just a coffee maker, took my own travel kettle as always
