Very cute. Not a chain, if you are looking for uniform rooms with cheap coffee pots in every room this is not for you. Anything you could need is in the store downstairs and close enough to time square to visit and not have to deal with all of the people

The good: Joey at the front desk, easy friendly check in and the room relatively clean save for the bobby pin I found on the floor. So the shade in the room didn't go down all t the way, leaving us exposed to the office across the street, no coffee in room or lobby, had to go to deli next door,...

In our trip to Manhatten, New York, all we really needed was a place to sleep for a few hours every evening. With Hotel St. James, we got that and a wonderful atmosphere to boot. It is a fantastic hotel that I would highly recommend. The front desk staff (especially a man who's name I believe was Joey, but I...

The hotel was very dated, but perfect for just putting your head down. You don't need anything more. Times square was within a 5 minutes walking distance if that. And the hotel was so quiet considering. I would recommend the hotel to family and friends on a budge. The only thing we didn't like is didn't get told, there was...

This hotel has a superb location and brilliant staff esp the man on reception called joey. He makes the place with his help and knowledge and general great personality. Whatever they pay him it's not enough. Give him a raise!!! The hotel itself was always warm even when it was minus 4 outside, very clean and the rooms were well...

The complaints in reviews are true -- hard to control heat, noisy radiator, old mattress, hot pipe right next to toilet, only two power outlets. Other quirks:blinds don't quite reach to the bottom of the window, no bathmat. But I liked this place and would stay here again. Price is right, location is fantastic. Front desk guy Joey was always...

Myself and my partner were heading to New York to celebrate our birthdays for 3 nights. On a budget we wanted to see all of the city without spending loads on a hotel which we would only require for sleep and showering. This hotel is pretty perfect for that. The rooms are pretty average, not fantastic, but okay. The noise...

Great location and friendly, helpful staff. 2 minute walk from Times Square, next door to a deli / mini market. A choice of subway stations within 5-7 min walk, theatres, bars and eating places a plenty. The room was a bit small, the lift a bit dated but that was far outweighed by the advantages of the hotel. We will...

Hotel and exceptional staff, but rather dirty and old. We asked to change the sheets, and they delivered the change by saying "do it yourself." Lacking on cleaning, but otherwise everything was great.

Nice hotel. Simple but very good. Clean rooms, nice bathroom and near everything. Walking distance to broadway, Bryant Park, metro stations, rockfeller center, central park. It' near everything and with the metro you can go anywhere. The room is smaller then i expect, but in NY you shouldn't spend time in the room. I really recomend. Employees are very toughtfuls.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
