NEW YORK LUXURY HOTEL NEAR BRYANT PARK Refinery Hotel is the imaginative reinterpretation of the Colony Arcade-a former hat factory and Prohibition-era tea room. More than 100 years of Garment District history are on display at our luxury hotel near Bryant Park. With an unprecedented degree of precision, much like the milliners before us who stitched elegant hats, we transformed a factory building into stylish loft rooms with soaring ceilings, the acclaimed Parker & Quinn restaurant, and our fashionable Refinery Rooftop bar.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, the Refinery Hotel captivates many guests with its stylish atmosphere and jazz flair, alongside a prime location celebrated for its proximity to key attractions. While opinions on value diverge, with some guests critical of the pricing, the hotel's cleanliness and spacious rooms often garner positive remarks.
The service quality appears to be a mixed bag, receiving both commendations for attentiveness and criticism for inconsistency. Meanwhile, amenities like the rooftop and live jazz events are popular highlights for those seeking an immersive New York experience.

We stayed at the Refinery for four nights in September and couldn't have been more pleased with our overall experience. As you walk in the lobby and take in the atmosphere, you are transported to a glamorous era of old age, in the most positive way. Even the lobby smells expensive which I think is always a good sign :).
Our room was at the back of the building and was pretty quiet, not much noise from the street. The room itself was pretty compact by European standards (which is normal for NY) and the furniture could do with a bit of spruce up, but overall everything was clean and tidy. The bed and bedding were very comfortable. Bathroom was beautifully tiled and elegant, shower was very good with great water pressure. Our toiletries or water bottles were not replenished during our stay but everything is available from reception, you just have to ask for it. There is not much sound proofing between the rooms and corridors so prepare with ear plugs if you want to sleep in.
The location of the hotel is brilliant, especially if you are new to New York. Midtown is a great place to start exploring Manhattan and most of the major attractions are walking distance from the hotel.
We didn't eat onsite but they do offer breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner in the different restaurants in the hotel. They are under different management but all looked very nice although pricey (but so is everything in New York). The rooftop bar deserves a special mention! It is undoubtedly the nicest rooftop bar I've been to in NY and I would book to stay at the Refinery again just for the bar! Be sure to make a booking if you want to sit outside on terrace and admire beautiful views of the Empire State Building and surroundings. Inside is really nice too and especially at weekends you can expect standing room only at the bar if you have not pre-booked.
Service was very friendly and efficient and I have to extend a special shout out to everyone who helped me when I had a fall outside on the unpaved road and hurt my face. The staff were extremely helpful and professional and helped with me with getting to the hospital to get patched up and checked on me afterwards. Wish I remembered names but I was in a bit of shock and can't remember much :(. I did pop by before leaving NY to say thank you to everyone though.
I think, all and all, that Refinery is an excellent choice for a mid-to-top range hotel bang in the middle of Manhattan. You pay a bit extra for location but in my opinion, it is definitely worth it if you want to sleep soundly in a tidy room and enjoy harmonious and elegant surroundings.

I have known this hotel for some years and, although it has been a long time since the first visit, it retains an excellent appearance and a good state of maintenance. It is located in an excellent location, you can walk to the main shopping and business streets, fragrant and clean in all environments (from the lobby to the rooms) and the Team is particularly polite and helpful with customers. The last time I asked to leave the room a little after the appointed time and I was granted it at no additional cost, which is really unusual for this type of hotel. If you are in the area, even for an aperitif, it has a really impressive rooftop, do not give up the experience.

The Hotel is in an excellent location with large and comfortable room / bathroom (even if the wardrobe was a bit small) but the reception service seems not to be ready for international customers: we asked to book restaurants outside the hotel and we got a negative answer (we were not even advised: “we can’t make international call”). The bedroom floor (in splendid dark wood) deserves a more frequent washing. I would remove the carpet under the bed because useless and dirty. The hotel has 3 restaurants, all with the same menu: a differentiation would be appreciated.

The hotel is easy walking from the theatre district and Bryant Park but not right in the thick of it. I loved that there is no wall to wall carpet and it is decorated in an industrial style and the room felt spacious. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. My flight arrived at 7:30 am and I was able to check in at 9 am. It was FREEZING in NY and they added some very nice touches like a hot chocolate bar in the lobby with topping choices. For once, a hotel got the lighting options right with very clearly labeled buttons and not a search mission for each lamp. They also kindly put a nook in the shower with the controls so you could get the temperature correct without standing in the water stream. Overall, I had a really lovely stay and would stay here again. I

We arrived by car with the family and were pleased to find dedicated open parking space in front of the hotel. We were greeted by the bellhops, who gently helped us with our luggage. Just be cautious when parking; you are less than a foot away from the bike lane. Make sure to look left to avoid any accidents.
What else can I say? Arriving later at night, the live jazz in the bar area to the right before the front desk was fantastic. Make sure to stop by and leave a tip.
The room bedding was quite comfortable, and the mattress was even better. For light sleepers, rest assured that the outside noise is not overwhelming (though, being in a major metropolis, some noise is inevitable). If the noise bothers you, you might consider visiting the Arctic for complete silence!
Breakfast at the restaurant downstairs was excellent. The waitstaff was attentive and provided proactive service. The food was very good—not greasy at all, and you leave feeling satisfied and healthy. The bagels were just okay by NYC standards, but the potatoes + eggs were exceptional. If you want speciality coffee, go look for it outside the hotel, like Gregory's or Blue Bottle locales.
3 blocks from NY Public Library + Bryant Park was a huge plus.
Overall, I was impressed by the service from the front desk staff. It was clear they had received formal training and provided top-notch advice and guidance, similar to a concierge. Miguel, Luis, Janeth, and others always greeted us with genuine smiles and helpful comments. As someone who rates staff globally, I gave them high marks for their ability to anticipate and meet customer needs. They made us very happy. However, I would have appreciated learning more about the hotel's history, as I am a bit of a history enthusiast.
We will definitely return on our next trip to Manhattan; you should consider staying here.
Last recommendation: Try to avoid bringing a car if possible; I ended up with over $400 in overnight parking charges. This is typical for NYC hotels when staying for more than a week.

I've stayed at dozens of hotels over the years in Manhattan, and The Refinery is definitely one I'll be returning to (this was our first time there). When you walk in the door it's immediately warm and inviting with a great scent throughout the lobby. A member of the staff always opened the front door when we were coming and going and the desk staff always acknowledged us when we went through the lobby. I was there with my wife and 18 year old daughter and we stayed in a double queen room which had a cool rustic vibe and was quite spacious for NYC. Jazz lounge right off the lobby is a great spot to relax with a drink... it's not your typical "lobby bar". Gabriel (manager) was very friendly, took good care of us and was a pleasure during our checkout, offered to help with transportation and sent us on our way with a gift. Location of the hotel is perfect as well. Overall I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and will return.

A little birdie told me - Soon to be RENOVATED This is great news because this sassy and historic hotel in the hub of the garment district has seen so many since the last refresh more than a decade ago. Most rooms are larger than a typical NYC hotel experience. Make sure to book directly with the hotel to avoid not getting the room type you need, especially if you are traveling with 2 people, requiring 2 Q beds. Slippers, robes and Luggage racks are provided, including the cute pour over coffee in the rooms. You can request an additional refrigerator should you need to store your own food. The mini fridge is dedicated to the goodies they provide for extra and Ice, available on request or Odd numbered floors. Ear plugs are available, since the streets of NY tend to be loud, with car honking that you can hear. The temperature controls seemed to be on a program no matter what we did to make a change, some blowing cold and the other blowing hot. All lights randomly came on at one point, strange. The beds were comfortable, and towels were fluffy. Loved the large size shampoos, body wash and lotions. There is an ironing board and a safe in the closets. More hangers available upon request, which we needed. The restaurant for breakfast was great, good options. Rooftop in the same hotel - major convenient, with the best view of the Empire State Building. The Jazz bar was a treat and great place to meet friends before going out for the night. I ended up taking the Shuttle bus from Bryant Park for $25 back to Newark - It was a short 10 min walk- right in front of ZARA. All in all, a good location. Can't wait to come back and visit after the renovations!

The staff was very responsive and friendly, and the convenient location of the hotel is only two blocks away from the subway at Bryant Park. Everything was fairly clean, but the couch had a few stains on it, so we avoided sitting on it. The room we booked was very spacious for NYC, and being on the 10th floor, we were barely disturbed by outside noise. However, the best part about the hotel was the rooftop bar. The food, service, drinks, and view from the outside seating were all top-notch. My wife and I had a great time both times we went, and will stay at the Refinery the next time we visit NYC.

I am so glad we stayed at The Refinery to celebrate my sister's 40th birthday! The moment I entered the hotel, I fell in love with the dim lighting, warmly scented candles, and live jazz. The front desk employee cheerfully welcomed my son and me, and we were happily surprised to see our room decked out with balloons and a "Happy Birthday" sign for my sister. The staff even left her a birthday card, hotel candle, and black and white cookies. She was overwhelmed by these personal touches that made her weekend and our stay extra fun! A special thank you to Lauren for communicating with me beforehand about our reservation and for setting up these unique surprises. You are the best!
My only complaint is that one employee was rude to me on our last day. It was raining badly and since we had time to kill before catching our flight, we hung out in the lobby and ate dinner at Parker and Quinn. Earlier that day, I bought a cupcake from Magnolia Bakery and happened to be holding my empty box while standing in line at the front desk to ask a question (and to look for a garbage can). The British woman near me (wearing black pants, a beige blazer, and her hair in a dark ponytail) then asked me if I had taken "that" off of the desk (pointing to my cupcake box). I was completely confused about her question, and then she pointed to many other Magnolia cupcake boxes behind the hotel desk. I assume they were for a hotel event. I then realized she was an employee...and that she was basically accusing me of swiping a cupcake from behind the hotel desk! I found her question rude and ridiculous, especially considering the large number of tourists who go to Magnolia Bakery when visiting NYC. In contrast to The Refinery's classy customer service, her poor manners and unfriendly demeanor were tacky and insulting.
Despite this final impression of The Refinery, one thoughtless employee will not ruin my review and overall impression of the hotel. Our room was large and clean, the beds comfortable, and the Le Labo toiletries luxurious. Extra towels arrived immediately when we requested them, and the shower was large and relaxing. A gentleman at the front desk called us a cab and even loaded our luggage when we left for the airport. I've stayed at several other hotels in the city, but I will be returning to The Refinery the next time I visit NYC! It is a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, and I can’t wait to visit again.

My new favorite hotel in midtown - doesn't get better.
Trendy clean rooms, multiple bars and restaurants (including a jazz spot), great location, parking right across the street, complimentary water and wine at check in, and when asked if slightly late checkout was available I did not get the normal run around and instead got a smile and "no problem - whatever we can do for you."
A++ guys. Great to see a gem in a world where everyone seems to rest on their laurels from years ago, or a name that doesn't mean anything anymore. Everyone took pride in their jobs here and it was refreshing to see.

Hmmm I paidr nothing to go up when staying there.
But I had a few drinks.
I might recommend calling them to ask if this is a security deposit so that people don’t cancel?

Sorry for the delay in responding. The elevators were not huge but not those tiny ones you sometimes get. From memory I think it can comfortably have 6 people in. The corridors of the hotel is quite dark ( a lot of black furnishings), but rooms have very high ceilings. Maybe ask the hotel directly about stairs and getting a lower floor room?
There are more places to choose from in the New York City area.
