Located next to the bustling Times Square, Hyatt Centric Times Square New York garners praise for its prime location and modern atmosphere, with many guests appreciating the hotel's cleanliness and updated vibe. However, some guests feel the sting of hidden fees and question the value for money. Room experiences vary, with comfort and size often appreciated, but noise and management issues have been noted.
Amenities like the rooftop bar add to the appeal, although service quality receives mixed reviews. Effective noise insulation is a highlight, particularly on higher floors.

Detailed Reviews
I would have given an excellent score had the restaurant not let it down. I contacted the hotel prior to arrival to see if they do anything special for birthdays, as our trip was for my husband’s birthday, a lovely lady named Lotis gave me a list of options available and I must say she went above & beyond in her customer service to make his birthday extra special, even giving us $75 credit to spend in the hotel. We used the credit towards his birthday meal at T45 which we regretted as most of our food was returned uneaten, the starters weren’t great, my husband’s steak was medium not medium rare and my son’s burger was raw! The staff were disinterested, no apology & no contact from the F&B team after I emailed my complaint, would not recommend the restaurant as the food was overpriced & underwhelming!
However, our hotel room (on 51st floor) was clean & spacious with good sized bathroom, it’s a shame the Hyatt don’t have family rooms with one queen & two single beds instead of two queens like most european hotels as 2 siblings sharing a bed can cause arguments. The hotel is in a great location, although you do pay $40 a night resort fee for the privilege which wasn’t mentioned when we checked in, we only knew through reading trip advisor, and we were not given any discounts etc. or told what the fee was for. There is a Starbucks over the road for your morning coffee. Walter, the doorman, is very helpful & friendly and organised our ride back to the airport, which was much more comfortable than the yellow cab we arrived on. Thanks again to Lotis & Walter I hope Hyatt give recognition to their staff that go the extra mile.

Tara, thank you for choosing the Hyatt Centric Times Square New York. We apologize for the disappointing experience you had at our restaurant and that we failed to provide you all with a memorable visit on your husband’s birthday. Your feedback has been discussed with our restaurant team to make sure this was an isolated event. That being said, we are happy to know you were impressed with the quality of service you received from Lotis and Walter. Your compliments will surely be shared with them. We are also happy to know you liked our location as well as our clean accommodations. We hope to have another opportunity to restore your confidence in us. Tom Blundell General Manager

New York are clearly getting in on the Vegas scam of charging resort fees locally on top of prebooked room rates. Resort Fees here are $30 per room per night. They are not optional and must be paid. If they can't afford to run the hotel based on their advertised room rates then they should increase their rates, not draw people in with artificially low rates topped up with "Resort Fees". Apparently its for Wi-Fi, water in room and I think that's it.
A deposit of $100 is required and check in is not possible without it. It must be on a hold on a card or if you want to leave a cash deposit its $350.00.
Great location if you want to be right on top of Times Square, it is literally out the door turn right and a few steps you're there!
The hotel public areas around the reception are fairly small with only one small seating area and a bar where breakfast is served.
The rooms are fairly standard, good quality rooms you would expect from a Hyatt. Modern with a single seat and table. Our room had a great view as you could see down to Times Square.
It was a good stay and the staff we encountered were all pleasant.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
I payed a supplement to have high-floor room (and a special request for well isolated from noise room) : I finally got as a result a room on 34th floor during 4 nights with view but not over Time Square. No problem at all with no direct view in the spotlight of TS because the room was quite well isolated but I would appreciate to be in higher floor to avoid being opposite to office workers in other buildings while I was undress .... I have been in higher floor for example in Las Vegas though it was during New Year’s Eve holidays.
Pros : perfect location, almost every point of interest was accessible by walking.and walking in this area was a nice experience to discover Manhattan.

Disappointed by how basic the hotel was.
Reasons being:
1. Other than soap, shower gel and shampoo, there were no other bathroom essentials provided. Everything had to be requested which I found odd and inconvenient, especially for a Hyatt property.
2. The pillows in the room were much too soft for me. I requested a firm pillow (which any decent hotel I've been to has - some hotels have a range of pillows including memory foam) but I was informed the hotel did not have any firm pillows - I thought that was odd.
3. Hotels in NYC which are charging a resort / destination fee need to be highlighted, it's essentially a scam. Just because some other hotels do it and because it's detailed on the Hyatt website does NOT make it ok. This Hyatt cannot justify the $35 ($40.16 with tax) fee per night (!) with the very poor 'benefits' provided. More guests need to challenge the fee, otherwise more and more hotels will continue to add it to the headline rate.
4. I was surprised at the lack of communal space - the lobby is tiny and there's nowhere to sit and relax other than the bar.
As for location, if you want to be near Time Square then the location can't be beaten, but if you've been to NYC more than once then you may appreciate being away from the hustle and bustle.
In terms of value for money, I booked my room at a promotional price so I thought the value for money was acceptable, but seeing how much the rooms are normally I would say this hotel is NOT good value for money as I would expect more luxury for the price.
Overall this isn't a bad hotel, just not the luxury what you might expect from a Hyatt property.

Excellent.
For those of you that think there is no wardrobe space after watching quite a few YouTube Videos, there is. It just looks like an adjoining door and the handle is a little stiff to pull.
When we got there my wife read somewhere that the room is cleaned every three days, this wasn’t the case, it was cleaned every day with new towels, linen and water.
Not sure if this was because we left a two to three dollar tip for them every time, but was well worth it.
Because we were in Times Square I was also told we would hear loads of traffic noise from the room, we didn’t and we were on the 12th floor.
The only downside was our view from the window wasn’t really that great, we could see the side of the Barclays building and another building under construction but no noise and that was the main thing.
Most places in Times square are so busy and hard to just find a seat and have a coffee, however the Starbucks that is opposite to this hotel always had seats available. Nice to go there to clear your head if you need space from how busy 20 seconds around the corner is.
By the way we knew we would have to pay tax on the room as you do for all hotels in New York.
I believe sometimes this may be part of your package and it maybe worth asking the question before you book
They put a hold on your Card when you arrive the same amount as what the room costs, so take this into consideration if you have assigned an amount of money you will spend in New York because a large amount will be taken as soon as you arrive to cover any charges on the room.
To be fair you will get this back but minus the tax which in our case was $172 for five nights. We have only come back and not received it yet but I am sure we will.
So if you have loaded up a pre paid card as we did try to add extra onto it because you won’t be spending this in New York and will be coming back with you, which is always nice to come back to.

We stayed in the executive suite room 2001. From the moment we entered the front door we were greeted by several friendly employees. We checked in quickly and made our way to the room. This room was unlike anything I’ve ever stayed in when visiting New York City, the best I’ve ever stayed over the past 20 years. It’s super modern and updated, with tons of “extras” And top of the line items including various lighting options, a robe and slippers, a premium hairdryer, a fabulous rainwater shower, tons of toiletries, including any toiletries you can imagine that you may have forgotten they provide you for free, Bottled waters, refrigerator, a Keurig, tons of closet and dresser space, Comfortable chairs and a couch, and the bed is so comfortable. The Florida ceiling windows provided an amazing view. The pull curtains were very convenient to easily open during the day and to close during the evening. There were two different televisions and also two different temperature controls in each room which I really liked so if someone stayed in the other room there were pocket doors to separate the two rooms and each room could have its own temperature. The housekeeping staff went above and beyond and when you ask for extra towels you actually get a ton and not just one or two like normal hotels. Each day they offer a private view on the top floor of the outdoor rooftop bar where you can get a beautiful view of the city at 10:30 AM each day and a free photo keepsake. We ordered breakfast for room service and it arrived super fast and everything was packaged nicely in little containers and was delicious. The only thing I wished the room had was a microwave but this was the only thing missing and we ended up not needing one anyways. We will 100% be back and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful comfortable stay with friendly staff in the absolute perfect location. We were able to walk to Times Square and get to plenty of restaurants and shopping without having to take a subway or any other transportation. A+!!

We stayed at the Hyatt Centric for 7 nights and the it met every one of our needs as a couple exploring the city, for a very reasonable price!! The location was great, with Times Square just a stone's throw away and plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. We had a king size room on the 19th floor, which was very spacious, lovely bathroom and shower. The staff were very accommodating, with our room being made every day, fresh towels, and coffee and water bottles being topped up daily. The roof top bar had amazing views, but rather expensive... Would definitely recommend!

The staff at this property is AMAZING, from check in all the way until I departed the entire staff made sure that my stay was great. Your front desk staff, especially Diane are the best I have interacted with in years and I applaud you guys for making sure that everyone was trained to provide the best customer service possible and to follow through on everything! I was pleasantly surprised and shocked by the awesomeness of the entire staff.... far better and superior customer service then your sister up there on 57th! (PHNYC)
The room was spotless, the Heat & AC worked well, the water pressure and temp were spot on.

Our family had planned this trip 6 months ago as it has been on our bucket list to experience our first trip to NYC and to watch the ball drop on NYE. While searching for rooms online there are many sources indicating Hyatt Centric is a hotel where you can see the ball drop. The room we selected had a description "Times Square view". Prior to booking we called on 2 occasions to ensure we have the perfect room to watch the ball drop and be apart of the exciting celebration. Both times we were advised yes we would see the ball drop. The rooms we booked was very expensive and we thought it was going to be worth it, we were willing to spend the money since we did not want our children in the cold and insane crowd for this celebration. We checked in on 12/30 and was so very disappointed with our room, you could only see the back of a billboard next to a building that blocked most of the view of times square and the ball drop was not in view. Hyatt Centric Times Square NYC hotel was misleading and dishonest from day 1. We spoke to 2 different people at the check-in desk and they said none of their rooms can see the ball drop and we could purchase the top of the bar access for $1000 +per person if we wanted to see the ball drop...... they genuinely was not concerned about our disapointment. Their goal was to move us along and check in the next person. We booked 2 rooms for our family of 6 people and spent over $5k at this hotel. I called the front desk to ask for a manager and she apologized and said they would credit me for the inconvenience, I received a folio with a credit of $80 and then they charged me $100 without providing the folio for the 2nd room or explaining why I was charged. I am reaching out to the hotel to inquire and will be generating a complaint to the FTC.

I stayed here for 4 nights during Halloween weekend (Thursday thru Monday) for a solo getaway and it was next to perfect. Everyone I encountered at the hotel was friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to be accommodating. I was emailed by Jorge prior to my arrival to ask if there was anyway they could make my stay more enjoyable, which was unexpected but greatly appreciated! I was provided an upgrade to a city view king room on the 25th floor, which was better than I expected for the room I initially booked! Checking in was an easy process, and DeeDee at the front desk was so welcoming and was able to check me in immediately, even though I arrived much earlier than the typical check-in time.
The room itself was very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Bathroom looked sleek and the rainfall showerhead was great to experience after a long flight.
The location is right off Times Square, which is perfect if you are visiting to watch shows or sightsee in the area. Really convenient to be able to easily retreat to the room when you need to. There's a Starbucks right across the street, and several restaurants within walking distance.
There were a few very minor issues; the bed pillows were a little flat, so I had to stack three to have a comfortable resting height for my head. Upon check-in I noticed a wet stain on the desk, but housekeeping had cleaned it up by the following day. Connecting to the TV's chromecast was somewhat tricky, so I barely used it. Otherwise, the room was a much needed quiet oasis where I could feel completely relaxed.
The tiny issues aside, what really made the stay great was the staff. Everyone made me feel like a valued guest. Item requests like a bathrobe, slippers, laundry bags and toothpaste were provided to the room promptly free of charge, and the doormen and security would always greet me when I returned. On the last day of my trip before check-out, I asked if I would be able to visit the rooftop to take in the view, which they allowed. Shaun accompanied me to the rooftop and, after I took pictures and videos, he asked about my trip and we had a nice chat. It was a great, memorable way to end my vacation.
The people who work at the Hyatt Centric Times Square really made this a special trip; just for this reason alone I'd wholeheartedly recommend staying here.
