Unfortunately this hotel had a lot of “flaws”. We booked a queen bed but we’re given a double. The bathroom is extremely tiny. I could barely fit in it. The internet/wifi is awful. You will need to use your data. No fridge, closet is very small and limited. Yes it’s located right in Times Square but so are 80 other hotels.

one of the cheaper hotels but everything it needed to for us. had read that staff could be rude - they were positively lovely to us. very helpful and polite hotel was nice and clean, maybe a bit tired looking in places but done black in my shower didn’t affect my use of it at all. bed was wonderfully comfy, thought i might have been chilly with the thin duvet but i was fine. was very well located, close to times square. no breakfast but we found the perfect diner just round the corner on 8th so we went there every morning would certainly return to this hotel in future.

Arrived hotel at 2pm, check in wasn't until 3pm but they let us in the room early at 215pm, the men on the reception were very abrupt but fine, the rooms were very small but had everything we needed, good shower, comfy bed, although hard pillows, bathrooms tiny but ok, housekeeping ladies were very polite and happy, thank you, probably the only staff there that were happy or seemed happy, resort fees taken at check out, this was for WiFi and gym WiFi worked one night out of five in the room but fine in reception, close to everything you need, an'nam restaurant next door was amazing the food was so lovely and staff very nice, on the whole fine hotel for what we needed but wouldn't say 4star 3 at best but apart from the staff being miserable it was absolutely fine, so don't be put off by the negative reviews like we were, people pick at the slightest thing and make people worry on here for no reason, I would definitely return, but reception staff maybe smile a little more

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is awful. We were told incorrect information about parking, and hung up on multiple times on our way there. Then when we got our room we were disgusted. It was mid construction, bedsheets had hair all over them and were gross. When we went downstairs to voice our frustration, we were met with a condescending employee that wanted to argue. We were told to wait until the manager came the next day. We agreed and went back up to start our vacation. That was when we found feces on the bathroom door. We went down and decided to just get a new room and move on, not even bother arguing with this employee because he was rude and impossible to work with. That’s when the employee slammed our new room key on the desk and said “How did you get S**T on the bathroom door.” He said this TWICE! In the lobby in front of multiple patrons and employees. Totally unprofessional and we expect a refund and the employee to be in trouble for insulting/embarrassing us, the hotel and himself. This place is a joke. I could go on forever and we have a whole list of this place and pictures. Ice machine and vending machines don’t work and that is small compared to what’s happening here. I’ve stayed in better rooms for $80 a night. Also if you look at the feces picture…it’s dry. He must have assumed we wanted a better room. Joke was on him when we actually took a smaller room and bed. I contacted the GM four days ago and have yet to even receive a response.

The reason I gave this 2 is because of the location. Everything else was terrible. Walked into the room and it was like opening an oven door. Air con didn't work and I imagine it's what a commercial laundry feels like. First day the water was tepid at best. Terrified to put anything or touch the desk as the only thing holding it together was friction and hope. Useless travel agents haven't checked this place out if they did I hope they wouldn't recommend it.

I would give this hotel 0 stars if I could. Worst hotel i've ever stayed in, from the minute we got on the plane we tried calling reception over 20 times just to let them know we'd be running a bit late for our check in but no answer so we arrived anxious. Got to the hotel and greeted by the most miserable man who didnt smile or say anything welcoming not even a "enjoy your stay". Arrived to the most dirtiest room ive ever stayed in (this was also my birthday trip away and the hotel said they would make it special for the occasion). Stains on the headboards, dirty bed sheets and dust everywhere, the shower was disgusting with dirt and chips on the walls everywhere also the air vent was hanging off the ceiling!. The door of our room when locked was still latched open so we could hear the house keeper shouting "housekeeping" from down the corridor even when our do not disturb sign was on the door was knocked on. I didnt want to stay for 1 night but as we arrived so late we had to, after 2 days out of a 6 day trip we had to find an alternative hotel 3 mins walk away but WOW it was amazing, so welcoming. When we went down to the gallivant reception to speak to them about checking out, we were again greeted by some miserable lady who told us to get out the hotel basically. She didnt say sorry you didnt have a nice stay or ask anything about our stay. The pictures online look nothing like they do in person and the only good thing about this hotel is the location. More like a hostel than a hotel.

DUMP..this hotel scams people-they charge a "hold" on your room-for me it was $500 CAD for 3 nights and they told me it would be refunded when I checked out-a month later I am still fighting with them (they hang up on me) and now VISA is going after them for my refund. Dirty floors, the bathroom toilet had stains on it, broken blinds, chipped paint and walls.

After reading some negative reviews I was really worried about the Gallivant, decided to go with an open mind and we had a great stay. Room was small but big enough for my daughter and myself. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was great as well. Ideally located in Times Square and handy for subway. Would definitely return.

A lot of major problems with this hotel 1- there is no wifi, after asking about it front desk just said that they were having trouble with the internet connection but they didn’t give an estimate of when it would be fixed (spent my entire stay without wifi) 2- NO A/C, the temperature in the room was around 85° F/ 30° C, when I complained about it, front desk just said that they didn’t have any other rooms, and that the A/C unit at the roof was not working so the only thing they could do was send somebody to open the window in the room, they took a long time to come and crack open the window and it didn’t really help. 3- little bathrooms, couldn’t even fit my toiletries on the sink area, no shower curtains on the shower causing some water to get out and wet the floor. 4- extremely noisy, I understand it’s New York City but still it’s impossible to sleep while hearing EVERYTHING going on in the street 5- elevators are slow, if you are on the firsts floors you’re better off using the stairs was extremely disappointed and would definitely never stay here again, I hope they fix this issues but meanwhile I WOULD NOT recommend anyone staying here or even consider it.

Oh no. No. Never again. Listen, the staff was VERY nice. I had to pay $50 for early check in, but I was utterly exhausted and more than happy to do so. I was grateful a room was ready so early. The first room they put me in was on the second floor - you cannot change the thermostat on the 2nd floor (or 3rd, just FYI). My room was set at 81 degrees. It was stifling. It's abnormally warm in NYC right now, so this wasn't good. I felt like I was suffocating. I called the front desk about 8 times, but no one answered. So, I went downstairs to the lobby where there were a bunch of employees at the desk, not helping anyone, and apparently not answering phones. Again, the staff member who did help me was LOVELY. I asked if there was a way to change the temp because it was quite hot. There wasn't. She switched me to a higher room where I could adjust the thermostat. I thanked her profusely. She mentioned they'd turned the AC off for the season or something along those lines which is why it was so hot. 5th floor, I turned the AC on HIGH. You still had to be within about 3 feet of it to feel the cool air, but it was better than the inferno on the 2nd floor. Awesome. But, the rooms were still awful. Of course, they're small, it's NYC. That's not the issue. The room was dirty and dingy. There was a large brown spot in the shower I was too afraid to examine closely. The sink drain wouldn't stay open and I had to pry it up with the pointy end of one of those plastic dental floss picker things. The bedding had a stain on it. The vinyl on the chair in the corner was ripped and stuffing was coming out. The floor looked like it needed to be swept. The bedside tables were dirty. It was just overall, kind of gross. The room had two twin beds, and I admit, it's been awhile since I've slept in a twin bed, but I am telling you it seemed like was about the same size as one of those little toddler beds with a crib mattress. The outlets were pretty wonky. My phone charger just kept falling out of them. I tried 3 and got the same results. I only needed it for a few hours - the plan was to sleep and shower before heading back to the airport at 4AM. When I got back to my room around midnight, the AC was still running, but it wasn't cool. If I had to guess (there wasn't a thermostat with a temp display) it was probably about 75 in the room, maybe 74 if you stood next to the AC unit. I was afraid to pull the bed covers down, so I literally sat on top of them for a couple of hours, unable to sleep. I took the fastest shower I could manage, packed up my stuff, and left. There must be a club nearby because I could hear the thumping music until the middle of the night. The noise from the elevators is extremely loud (also pretty typical for an NYC hotel). The pros: Location! You're right in the theatre district which was the only reason I was there for the day. That was perfect. Plenty of food options, too. You're right next to the fire department should the raging heat in the room actually send you up in flames. Again, the staff. They were very friendly and accommodating. None of the issues were their fault. Don't yell at them! They're the only ones who can help you, so be nice to them! (as a former customer service worker, that's my advice: BE KIND!) The cons: Everything else, honestly. NYC hotels tend to do the absolute MOST to be the absolute WORST while charging way too much money. Side note: Give yourself PLENTY of time to leave your room if you have somewhere you need to be. The elevators are SLOW, and they will often show up too crowded for you to fit on. Plan on waiting for an elevator for awhile before you can get up or down. Pro tip: Stay at the Belvedere. Also on 48th street. Much nicer and cleaner. Still the perfect location. But, it will be even more expensive.
