We were in town for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (one of our children is participating). We wanted to be at the start of the parade route and found The Excelsior. The property is lovely and the staff is FANTASTIC. It's a little pricey but well worth it!! The property is ideally located for activities in and around Central Park...

Room is nicely appointed, dining is great and comfortable, staff most pleasant and helpful. Wood accents everywhere. Front desk and door staff are superb. Elevators fast. Across from the Rose Center of the Natural History Museum and adjacent to Central Park and the "Ramble" which is a fun excursion through Adirondacks type settings on your way to either the Guggenheim...

Perfect location .Wonderful to be so close to the park. The interior lobby is beautiful.2nd floor restaurant was very nice and the food was excellent. The rooms are on the small size but the comfort of the bed makes up for it. Overall i would highly recommend. My only negative comment was the restaurant. I believe it was Cuban a food...

Stayed here in June 2016 with my friend and my 6 year old daughter. I was already impressed when we first entered the hotel. Loved the charm and decorations of the lobby. I am not sure how all the room look like. I know I have booked a double, double room and we got a suite I believe, with a...

An older, but clean hotel with friendly staff. Location is outstanding -- steps away from Central Park and the subway. (We love Central Park!) Close to interesting shopping and some good bars and restaurants. The Natural History Museum is across the street, but we didn't have time to visit. The only negatives were low water pressure in the shower and...

Senior travelers should know that this hotel has grab bars in the showers. Many hotels don't. The bed was superb and the room very nicely set up. The buffet breakfast is lavish but in an awkwardly converted lounge area which can be very cold. The staff at breakfast clumped together speaking ?Russian and was not very welcoming. The location is...

I visited this hotel first week of December and we could not have been happier with our stay. Upon arriving the front desk was very pleasant and had our room ready early; which was great because we were exhausted from our flight. Our room was located on the 8th floor where we had a great view of the city. It...

Great location just one block to Central Park and metro station. It's a nice residential area away from the mad crowds of Times Square. Our bedroom was very small and had no real view to speak of. The air con was very hit and miss making loud noise one evening where we simply switched it off and elevators can take...

If you want to feel like a local instead of a tourist, make the Excelsior Hotel your home away from home. Located across from the Planetarium on W. 81st, the Excelsior is a perfect base for exploring the Upper West side. Rooms range from tiny doubles to spacious suites. Excellent bedding. Bathrooms are small and somewhat dated, but quite charming...

Our first room we had to be moved from after one night, my sister had a scalding hot shower the night we arrived. The room was freezing and all night the ac/heating unit sounded like elves were auditioning for stomp from the inside, a freezing cold shower for me the following morning finally did it. Reception was very helpful and...
