Favourite NY hotel
My favourite hotel in Manhattan. We had a double one bedroom suite which was perfect for 3 adults. Great to have a small kitchen area and full size fridge. Comfy beds and bedding. Very helpful staff. We had a small problem with the shower and the maintenance man arrived within minutes and fixed the problem.
Love the upper west side, feel very comfortable and good restaurants close by.

Dear loislane2021, It's great to hear that you had a wonderful experience at your "favorite hotel in Manhattan" Beacon! Happy you enjoyed our suite with two double beds and it's always a plus when the beds and bedding are comfortable, ensuring you have a good night's sleep. I'm glad to hear that my team was helpful, especially when you had a small problem with the shower and you were impressed that the maintenance man was able to arrive within minutes to address the issue and fix it promptly. We agree with you that the Upper West Side is a fantastic neighborhood with a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, and it's excellent that you were able to enjoy it. Thank you for sharing your positive experience at the Beacon. It's always great to hear when guests have a pleasant stay and enjoy all that the hotel and surrounding area have to offer. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future! Best regards, Milja Perkovic

Highly recommend and we will definitely be back
We booked the Hotel Beacon due to the location on the UWS where we were visiting family. Before our arrival I had called to ask if we could drop our bags when getting to the city so we could head out and enjoy the day, they were super nice and said "no problem". Upon arrival early early Sunday morning we did drop off our bags and check in. They took our number down and offered to call when our room was ready and did call around noon which was a pleasant surprise! When we returned, got our bags and went to our room we were so excited to see the small kitchen. The mini fridge was perfect for our waters and juice and having glass coffee cups was a treat in the morning. The room itself was very nice, a large bed and a big closet. And it is NYC after all but the room was quiet as a mouse and we were never disturbed by an street noise or hotel noise. The location is excellent, there is a cafe on the corner, Starbucks near by, CVS, Marshall's and the Subway is a short walk. We did not take advantage of housekeeping but the housekeeper on our floor (15th floor) could have not been nicer, every time she saw us coming and going she asked if our room was perfect and offered us extra K-Cups and towels, she really made our stay special and memorable. We will plan on staying at the Hotel Beacon our next visit to NYC. The Beacon Bar is conveniently located next door for drinks, offering guests a discount with their stay.

Great stay over the holidays
We are a family of 5 and it can be difficult to find the right place to stay when we travel. When the kids were small we could all fit in one room, but that's no longer feasible. We've tried Air BnB type properties, but those can be hit or miss. This time we finally decided to get 2 rooms and the Hotel Beacon came in great shape in terms of affordability and location. Ultimately, they upgraded us to a suite for the same price which made it even better - more comfortable and less confining. But even if we stayed with the 2 rooms, I have no doubt the experience would have been pleasant. The hotel is older but in great shape... it has a charm to it. Staff and location could not have been better. We plan to stay here again and would highly recommend the Hotel Beacon.

Wonderful Upper West Side Stay
Hotel Beacon is located in the heart of the upper west side, next-door to the renowned Beacon Theater. Easy walking to Central Park, Natural History Museum, Lincoln Center, and other uptown attractions. Also very close to subway stops. The hotel itself is very comfortable--nice without being fancy. I paid for the upgrade to a King Suite, which was well worth the money. Compared to other NYC hotel rooms I've stayed in, this room was massive, as was the bedroom closet. The bathroom was updated and the shower felt great with killer water pressure. Staff were friendly and helpful, though I didn't interact with them much. My room was located on the back side of the hotel, facing east, and I didn't have any noise problem at all. I would highly recommend this place both for its location and for its comfort and class.

just OK place to stay
3 adults stayed at the Hotel Beacon on a recommendation. I booked a 2 bedroom apartment 10 months in advance and followed it up a couple of times with a final confirmation 2 weeks before our visit. Hotel Beacon confirmed - all okay. Upon arrival we were told there was no 2 bed apartment available and they offered us a 1 bed suite and a hotel room. We were extremely disappointed with this news and queried why they didn't let us know earlier. The response was - this happens sometimes and if it hasn't happened to you before, you're lucky! We verbalised our disappointment and they reluctantly offered us free breakfast each morning (which turned out to be awful). The rooms they gave us were OK but when we researched their cost we realised they should've refunded us some $ as they were cheaper than the 2 bed apartment. After raising this they reluctantly(!) refunded us some $. We also had a problem with the swipe card not working on our door. They argued it was the card and issued me 3 cards - none would work and we asked they send someone up to fix the mechanism, which they did that day. On the final night the heater system started to rattle so loudly we turned it off and I remember thinking, 'thank goodness we're out of here today'. The Hotel Beacon is in an OK spot but is an ageing hotel, which is close to a lot of things, but a bit far from 5th avenue etc (25 min walk). I wouldn't stay there again as there are plenty of better places to stay and not so old.

More space in a quiet neighborhood
We've now stayed at The Beacon four times. This most recent visit was for five days. We are a family of four, and we like the larger accomodations. The suites include a bedroom with two beds, a living room and a kitcheonette. This is tough to beat in NYC. We booked well in advance and took advantage of a special, which effectively saved us a room night. We love the upper west side location, its restaurants, you're 3 blocks from the 1-2-3 trains, and its a short walk to central park and the Natural History Museum. The neighborhood is reasonably quiet, and on this visit we stepped next door to catch a show at the Westside Comedy Club. If you plan ahead, you can catch many great musical acts at The Beacon Theatre adjacent to the Hotel.

Super location, great value, friendly staff
Stayed four nights over New Year and just loved the Hotel Beacon. Had a standard 'double double' room and loved the fact that you get a bath (as well as shower) and a kitchenette. Visitors are encouraged to make meals if they wish, and our kettle was constantly on the go! Room servicing even includes getting the washing up done! (And not just a wipe round with a damp cloth.) Good quality toiletries in the bathroom, masses of fluffy towels and even washcloths. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but there is an excellent one next door - and a great 24/7 supermarket opposite. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Really pleased with this hotel choice
I have visited NYC once before and stayed in a very busy commercial mid-town Manhattan hotel with no character. This time I wanted to stay in a less busy location in a hotel where the staff welcomed you with a smile. We were not disappointed.

We were very pleased with choosing the Beacon. Our room on the 25th floor had all the facilities we needed and as it was a corner suite we had a view of both central park and of the cityscape to the south. The view was quite mesmerising (room 2512 for information).

The hotel staff were very friendly as were the other guests we spoke to.

The Viand cafe next door served excellent breakfasts and the fairway supermarket across the road was handy for anything we needed for the kitchenette.

The Owl’s Tail cocktail bar around the corner made an excellent Manhattan cocktail and the Red Farm asian restaurant a block’s walk up cooked some delicious asian cuisine and also had cold beer on tap.

The nearest subway was in sight of the hotel on 72nd street.

We would definitely stay here again if we came back to New York.

Quiet, Roomy
This is our second time staying here. We stayed ago, and recently stayed again, only this time my kids are practically adults. My daughter was attending a conference at Columbia University. The hotel is about 1.5 miles to Columbia, but there is a subway a block away that drops you at Columbia.

Rooms are very big for NYC. It was nice to have the kitchen to heat up meals after exhausting days. Was also good to have the bedroom with an actual door so kids could have space and not bother each other while doing homework.

My son thought the decor old-fashioned, but I found it cozy and comfortable. We had a room facing the street , and it was fun to sit on the wide windowsill and look out while drinking our coffee.

Staff was very efficient and friendly. Doorman got us a cab at rush hour. I had run out of cash and felt terrible that I had no money to tip him, but he was extremely gracious about it. My son hung out in the lobby doing homework for several hours after we checked out while the rest of us did other things, and nobody gave him a hard time even though he was a teen alone.

This is a great location for families. Extremely quiet, near the subway and Central Park, across from a grocery store. But a warning - it is DEAD after 9:00 pm. Daughter and I tried to find dessert when she was done with her presentation, walked for blocks, and found nothing open even though it was shortly after 9:00 (on a Sunday night, but still). We finally were able to grab a couple of slices of cake from the diner nearby even though their sit down restaurant was closed. Also, several places closed earlier than their posted hours even though it was a beautiful spring-like evening in February, so definitely call ahead before heading somewhere. None of this is the hotel's fault, of course, but thought I should give a heads up. I was surprised that to find a neighborhood in Manhattan that has less going on in the evening than my neighborhood in Albany!

Dear Librarian1998, Thank you for staying with us at Hotel Beacon! We are glad that you had a good experience and that you found our location perfect for your stay in NYC while your daughter was attending a conference at Columbia University. We are planning our next renovation, and the decor will be modern and more to the next generation's liking. The Upper West Side is a residential neighborhood, and the NYC excitement slows down after 9 pm. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to Hotel Beacon. Sincerely, Milja Perkovic Directo of Revenue Management
