How do I do this review? There are so many small things I could complain about if I was to compare the Carlyle with an uber modern hotel. But I'm not going to complain as it's old school shabby chic feel is what makes me and my wife LOVE it! Sure it needs a bit of paint and the plumbing...

How can I describe staying at the Carlyle? Its like staying at the home of an eccentric, rich elderly aunt who happens to own a property in NYC. The hotel is comfortable in an old school way. It reminds me of Baur au Lac in Zurich. It could certainly do with a refresh. We were lucky enough to stay in...

If you are looking for a very, very special weekend getaway, The Caryle is the most perfect place in New York City. My wife and I stay there as often as we can and everything and I mean everything is absolutely perfectly done. The front desk service is beyond 100%; the dining room ambiance and very creative and delicious food...

We walked into the Carlyle hoping to have a drink and a bite at the famous Bemelmans Bar, but it was closed so we decided to try the main restaurant. We were seated side by side at a banquette along the wall, which is always nice because both people can see the room. It was especially good because the room...

Booked for a special anniversary and had a marvellous time in one of NYC's finest hotels. Excellent dinner in the hotel restaurant. First class experience. Shame that the Bar has such a high cover charge as it would have been nice to sit there in an evening for a relaxing drink bit otherwise we thoroughly recommend this hotel for a...

The Carlyle has long been my favorite New York City hotel and our recent visit was probably the best ever. From the moment you enter the lobby you can sense the elegance and refinement of the establishment. The staff could not be more helpful or gracious. An air of generosity seems to permeate the hotel. Our room was large and...

The room was quite small, well appointed with nice furniture, linens, etc. Adjustments to heat and A/C worked poorly, when they worked at all. Room facing Madison Avenue was very quiet - impressive!Elevators slow(one was not working), though one has an attendant, which seems unnecessary. Great location near Central Park, subway, top Madison Avenue stores. Also fine restaurant (expensive) and...

I travel to NYC monthly for work and pleasure and usually stay in Soho or Gramercy Park. On this visit, we were a group of 8 women celebrating a friend's special birthday and booked the Carlyle. I was very impressed! Our concierge Waldo was a big part of making our weekend in NYC such a success!! Waldo booked fabulous restaurants...

Great staff, lovely rooms, marvelous spirit. Still the best hotel in town! The restaurant is better than ever. It's a real treat to dine there. I have been staying here for fifty years and there has been small changes and improvements but no diminishment of basic quality.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
