the room was wonderful, the area was fantastic. All good, except dogs are aloud in the hotel and we had a little yapper in room next to us. I'm sure if I complained it would have been handled; but only for one afternoon I was doing emails. This was both business and pleasure as we were there for our daughters... More

Enjoyed a week at the Carlyle. The hotel staff was always helpful. Our stay was made better by the attention of Anthony in the restaurant and Stephanie, the concierge. All of her recommendations were perfect and wonderful. Our only reason not to stay is access and accomodations for guests using a wheel chair. The main entry doors are too small... More

History does not make this hotel any better than any other in New York City. This is another hotel pretending to be first class and it is nowhere near first class, nothing special. Make history, my fellow readers, and stay at another hotel, for you as the paying customer will make history. The Management of this hotel has one aim,... More

One of the benefits of travelling is that when you find a place that you love, it really is like finding a home away from home. We stumbled upon the Carlyle many years ago and has since become our favorite hotel in New York City. The staff is among the best in New York City. It makes our children (and... More

I've stayed at the Carlyle around two dozens times over the last several years and it's been wonderful every time. From the bellmen, front desk, room service, restaurant, concierge, all staff make you feel welcome and cozy at this lovely traditional NYC landmark hotel. It's simple and elegant, reserved yet happening. There may be "better" hotels in the city but... More

Hotel is old world chic. Our Manhattan experience was enhanced by staying at this great old world hotel. Minor problems with belhop and housekeeping did not distract from overall quality of stay at hotel. Bemelmen's Bar was exceptional; great music in an intimate old world New York room. Overall, service was inconsistent for the high price paid to stay here.... More

Loved the Carlyle. Fabulous hotel for people watching. Beautiful decor in public areas. Velvet on the walls and the couches. 3 lifts with a full time doorman in each. Very low key bar for night time entertainment. Beautiful marble floors and plush seating. Exquisite service where everyone remembers your name and your floor number. More like a home than a... More

I loved everything about this one of a kind "swanky" hotel. It was like a magical retreat back to the time of elegance and wonderful service. Plus the Sense Spa is stunning! Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
