Hotel Edison has been a staple of Times Square since its opening in 1931, when Thomas Edison turned on the lights of the hotel himself. The historic hotel is among the first Art Deco hotels in New York City’s Theater District and has become synonymous with celebrity, art, and excitement over the past eight decades. Hotel Edison’s vibrant energy, spacious accommodations, and notable restaurants and jazz bar provide guests with a one-of-a-kind refuge in the heart of Times Square, within steps of Midtown Manhattan’s premier business and leisure destinations including Time Warner Center, Rockefeller Center, MoMA, and world-renowned Fifth Avenue Shops.

This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Hotel Edison's prime Times Square location is lauded by guests, especially theater aficionados, though it comes with a caveat of noise disturbances that can impede sleep. While the service is often highlighted for its friendliness and efficiency, opinions diverge regarding the hotel's value, amenities, and room decor, with some guests pointing out the need for updates. Nevertheless, the Art Deco atmosphere and live music add charm, and the hotel's cleanliness is consistently appreciated, with particular praise for the daily housekeeping.

The rooms are small but the beds are comfortable and the staff is wonderful. We also had a great experience at the Rum House and Bond 45. I highly recommend trying both places. The location is great. Right next to Time Square, 20 min walk to Empire State Building, and 15 min walk to Central Park.

Hotel's Favourite
I absolutely LOVE the Hotel Edison! This hotel is a New York classic set in the heart of Times Square. There is a lot to love about this one of a kind property- the location, the art deco decor, the restaurants-Friedman’s, The Rum House, Bond 45- the rooms, the gym and the list goes on and on- but what really sets this hotel apart is their top notch hospitality. I live in NYC, but I send all of my out of town guests to stay at The Edison, because I KNOW they will be made to feel welcome in a city that can sometimes be unwelcoming. I have to call out one individual by name, who just always goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome and handled- Rommel Gopez. Rommel is always making everyone feel special, whether remembering a name or sharing a friendly word- and I have to mention the Edison Wine Hour! The last time I had friends staying at the hotel, they had cast members from the Barry Manilow’s Broadway Musical “HARMONY” performing! WOW! Needless to say I will continue to send my friends, family and colleagues to stay at The Hotel Edison! 🙏🏻

This hotel is 58 steps from Broadway and Times Square, and yes, we counted!! They are right in the theatre district steps away from the theatres, and restaurants. There are two restaurants in the Edison, although we usually go explore the city and find new restaurants. The staff members are always helpful and easy to work with. The rooms vary in size, but are always clean and well kept up. While everything in NYC is expensive, I think we get the best value for our money with the Edison. Over the years we have tried a couple other hotels near Times Square and nothing compared value wise. It's a great place to stay!

This is an iconic art deco hotel at a prime location and a very busy one. Positives: Location. Literally 10 steps from Time square. Two restaurants and a bar are in the same building. Breakfast discount vouchers are provided (set menu for discounted price but not included in room rate) and breakfast is very good. Nice, comfortable bed, clean bathroom, clean and soft towels, good quality bedding. Old style but nice furniture in the room. Cleanliness ,while not perfect, is acceptable. Good size tv, comfortable to watch from bed. Huge selection of channels including movie channels. Wi-Fi is good quality, good enough for streaming, too. Better than in most nearby restaurants where even google maps would load as Wi-Fi was spotty due to weather. So hotel’s connectivity is reliable. Concierge is kind ( I met 2, it is true for both), helpful and professional. Security by elevators and guests must show their keys to gain access. Should be improved: - heating up to 72F in daytime was a challenge, took hours and still did not reach the set temperature. No blankets are provided only the bedding. Having said that it wasn’t cold, it remained above 68F mostly. Was warmer in the evening. - fan is very old, as loud as a tractor plowing a field, nothing else can be heard while it’s on; - they asked how many people in the room, looked at my passport and decided that I do not count for much ( based on the impolite tone of voice), then gave me a smaller than small sized room at a lower floor overlooking a noisy back alley service area, - room does not resemble to the classic room they post the pictures of online; - bathroom is clean enough but dated As to the restaurants: Friedman’s: - Staff especially Julia and Allison are very nice and capable - Food is of good quality. Everything I tried was excellent. - For some reason they keep seating the hotel guest to the front by the windows where it is colder. But if asked they were willing to sit me elsewhere; Bond45: - had dinner here, ended up impressed by the ambiance and interior and unimpressed with the food. Interpretation of carbonara was a large portion of bland pasta silkily covered in egg mixture but without distinct taste of pecorino/parmesan and only 2,5 cubes of guanciale on top, none in the sauce. Interpretation of sautéed broccoli looked more life leafy greens and was cold.

This hotel exceeded all my expectations! It was clean, comfortable, secure, had a fantastic location (close to so many theaters!) and every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. Latoya checked us in around 12:30 a.m. We were tired but she was kind and patient with us. She gave us an envelope with our meal vouchers and she took the time to wriur breakfast options and times they were available because she could clearly tell that our brains were fried! Our room was missing the coffee maker and when we called down to see if we could get one ahead of the morning, they had it to us in 10 minutes! This was a Mother/Daughter trip so two moms and two teens. We booked a Signature 2 Queen Beds room and it was perfect. The bathroom is small but we made it work. There are also plenty of elevators so you aren't waiting forever to get to your room. This is an older hotel but is well cared for and has character. We enjoyed a glass of wine during Wine Hour and if we had stayed longer would have done the walking tour. We enjoyed Friedman's sit down breakfast and Bond 45's Grab and Go breakfasts. I am gluten free so Friedmans was such a treat! We also had dinner there and enjoyed the singing waitstaff. They were all incredibly talented and fun. I highly recommend checking out Gayle's Gypsy Rose. If you want a great hotel near the theaters and Times Square, you should definitely book The Hotel Edison.

I've stayed at and recommended this hotel a few times and always had a good experience. Clientele: Lots of international school / travel groups and families. Location: In the middle of the Theater District (literally next to Six and across the street from Hamilton). 1 block from Times Square. A couple of blocks from two main subway stations - 50th or 42nd - that take you anywhere (straight to LGA, downtown to Staten Island Ferry, etc.). Airport travel: From LGA, Q70 bus to Roosevelt Station and either the E or 7 train straight to the hotel area. $3.25, safe and fast. You can buy a single ride ticket at the station with cash or card. Navigate with Google or Safari maps - no app needed. Safety: Went with a group of women and we never felt unsafe. Only saw a couple of homeless people the entire time we were in Manhattan. If there is a drug, homeless or immigrant problem here - we didn't see it. Value: There were 10 of us in 3 rooms (2 double queens with twin pull out and 1 double queen / King family room). The rooms were clean and comfortable. 1525, 1510, 1511. We got breakfast vouchers each morning to use downstairs for pickup breakfast (very good - fruit, egg /cheese bagel or parfait / coffee or juice) or use throughout the city at designated places.

Hotel Edison boasts a prime location in the vibrant heart of Times Square, offering convenient access to Broadway shows and numerous attractions within walking distance. Its proximity to the subway ensures easy connectivity to other parts of the city. The rooms are spacious and clean, providing a comfortable retreat after a long day of exploring the city. However, the mattresses may be too firm for some guests' preferences. While the bathroom amenities were adequate, it's worth noting that they were not replenished during our five-day stay. For the most part, the staff was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, there were instances where security staff exhibited unacceptable behavior, including shouting at guests, which left a negative impression. Additionally, management could improve by considering group breakfast packages for larger parties, as our request for 18 breakfasts over five days was not accommodated.
