Before it was closed for extensive renovations, the Barclay was my home away from home in New York. I stayed as often as 6 or 8 nights a month when my travel schedule was heavily focused on New York. They closed for a couple of years, my travel schedule changed, and I hadn't been back in the hotel for years....

We visit New York and stay at the Barclay Hotel every year which is always a delight. The hotel atmosphere and Gin Bar can't be beat anywhere in New York. Among our complimentary remarks about the property, we especially love visiting with Jose Torella at the bar. Our next visit will be in anticipation of visiting with him once again. We...

Had a wonderful 4 days staying at The Barclay. Hotel is so well located for midtown. A short hop across to Times Sq, perfect for Grand Central Station, bus's and subway. Hotel lobby and bar are gorgeous. A quiet haven in such a busy city. Our room, upgraded to a deluxe, was just perfect. Quiet, huge comfy bed, good technology,...

Absolutely beautiful hotel, friendly staff and very clean. Bed is incredibly comfy. We were on the tenth floor facing 48th and it was relatively quiet - loud sirens could be heard if for a prolonged period. The gin parlour is lovely and very well stocked. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.

The hotel has a good location near to Central Station with a 10 minute walk to Times Square. Recently refurbished to a lovely standard with good size rooms this is a very smart comfortable hotel with very comfortable beds and spotlessly clean. There is a great bar in the reception area and all staff, particularly the bar staff are friendly...

We spent a one week vacation in New York and chose this hotel mostly for our past experience at other Intercontinental hotels in Europe, USA and Brazil. The Barclay is located at the 48th st between Park Ave and Lexington Ave. It has an exit on 49th st across the street from the Waldorf Astoria. There is a passage entrance...

Stayed here just after Christmas 2016. Recently refurbished and is just perfect. Great location, safe and really central. Staff where absolutely genuinely attentive and a credit to the hotel and indeed to themselves. Highly recommend this wonderful hotel. Hope to return.

The only reason why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because the bed gave me such a horrible sleep. Overall, the hotel is absolutely beautiful. The staff are very nice, the room itself is very comfortable. But the bed has some sort of a protective sheet that made the mattress hard and uncomfortable. I didn't notice that it...

Stayed here one saturday night in January. Nice location. Friendly staff. Easy access to subway and walking distance to many attractions. The staff was very friendly, the hotel room was updated without being overly expensive. Overall would recommend to others and will plan on staying here when coming back to NYC.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since first opening its doors in 1926, the InterContinental New York Barclay has welcomed countless guests to enjoy a luxurious residential-style experience in the heart of the city. Originally constructed as part of the Grand Central Terminal expansion, The Barclay became one of four notable railroad hotels built to service the well-heeled men and women travelling to New York City. Its convenient location, directly above the railroad tracks, permitted the hotel the unique distinction of having its own platform in the basement, ideal for the upscale rail traveler who occasionally arrived by private train car. In addition to its Midtown East location, the hotel made an immediate impact with tenants and critics alike for its characteristic atmosphere of comfort and elegant domesticity. From that moment, The Barclay began to write its history as the hotel of choice for those looking to take respite in this stately residential hotel of international prestige. Today, the InterContinental New York Barclay remains Manhattan’s preeminent luxury hotel after undergoing the most ambitious restoration in its history. Combining sophistication and contemporary design, while staying true to its original Federalist style details, The Barclay exudes confidence and warmth, delivering the same residential feel with modern comfort and flexibility introduced to the world in 1926. ... more   less
