The Park Central Hotel New York offers a stay that has guests praising its stellar location, footsteps away from Central Park and Times Square, yet some travelers report a compromised experience due to dated rooms and noise disturbances. While the beds are lauded for comfort, the presence of outdated decor and occasional cleanliness oversights in rooms are points of contention. The service garners mixed reviews, with notable delays in elevator service and a spectrum of reception experiences, though friendly staff interactions are a highlight. Additionally, unexpected charges have left many guests feeling the hotel does not provide value commensurate with its costs.

We stayed at the hotel for 9 nights in late August 2024. The location is great, it is located in Midtown north where there are major attractions, and is quiet both day and night. In the area there are a lot of restaurants, diners, and also nearby market, for example to buy water (in fact there is also a sort of small bar in the lobby but we did not use it also because of the hours, we found it often closed). The subway station is a stone's throw away, and from the hotel walk in 5 min you are in central park, on fifth ave, or at MoMA, and in 8/10 min to Times square. The hotel looks great, both outside and in the lobby. The room was functional, queen size bed, and bathroom with bathtub, towels and always clean sheets changed daily. We didn't detect any major cleaning problems, but in the room there is carpeting which is not really among the most hygienic things. As in all the rooms closed to ny air conditioning ball, even in the room, we tried to turn it off for the night but a minimum always circulated. There are two elevators for the whole structure, it happened to wait a few minutes especially at times of greatest use (morning breakfast time, evening dinner time), you have to arm yourself with patience or try to anticipate these times, nothing as tragic as I had read in other reviews however, also because the cleaning staff very kindly also allows you to use the service ones if there is need. Upon arrival they deduct from the credit card (so mandatory to stay here, bring it) a deposit of 100 $ / day, for any damages / services etc (in addition there is the tourist tax of about 40 $ / day, that will not be returned); at check out ask if you will be charged something (if you have to dispute that is the time) and then after a few days the amount will be credited back, as in my case (I had read here some reviews in the opposite direction, but we had no problems, after 7 days we were credited back everything).
We did not use other services, nor did we have special needs (we left in the morning and returned in the evening), and I can only rate our stay as positive. Possibility to leave luggage in storage at the hotel (we were not charged anything). Even for the departure the doorman was kind enough to look for a taxi (usually some taxi stops anyway in front of the hotel just for guests). If we were to return to the city, it would definitely be a pleasure for us to return to Park Central.

We've stayed at this hotel 4 times, and its the best value for money if what you are looking for is location and comfort. This last stay was particularly good because the people at the hotel were very kind to accommodate my needs, especially the guest experience manager Betty McKenzie. Since there is no kitchenette or fridge in the room, and I need it to refrigerate something and then had it warm up each morning, she offered me a kettle and a mini fridge, which totally took care of my need. On top of that, I wrote to the hotel the day before, telling them that due to my flight being canceled, I was now arriving on an earlier flight which meant I was to arrive at the hotel at 6 am, without being able to sleep at all the previous night; Betty was extremely nice finding a room for me to check in at that moment so I could sleep at my arrival; in order to do that, she upgraded me to a better room which was the one available at that time. She really went out of her way to help me with everything, and that made all the difference.
At the time of my stay, they were doing maintenance on the elevators so only 1 was working but I never waited more than 5 minutes.

Eugedelos, your repeat visits to Park Central Hotel New York and the heartening words you've shared make us incredibly proud! We're glad to know you've found our location convenient and our accommodations comfortable. It's also pleasing to note that Betty McKenzie, our guest experience manager, made your stay memorable by attending to your needs promptly. We also understand the importance of feeling looked after, especially when plans change unexpectedly, and we're pleased to hear that Betty was able to assist in turning your early arrival into a positive experience with a room upgrade. As for your mention regarding the elevator situation, we're working on providing smoother and more efficient services. Your patience during this time is much appreciated. We are eagerly awaiting your fifth visit, and until then, we hope you carry only the pleasant memories of your stay with us!

The hotel is in a great location, just a 5 minute walk to Times Square, the beds were extremely comfortable and cleaned to a high standard everyday. However, the reception staff were rude on several occasions with different members, after a 16 hour day travelling it’s not nice being greeted with an attitude. The rooms need to be sound proofed. The first 2 nights we had no sleep as there was a baby crying next door all night, when we asked if we could move rooms, we were told they were full. You could hear people walking up and down the corridors all night and early in the morning.

This hotel has a positive only the location that is on seventh street, very close to Time Square and Central Park, otherwise the rooms are not properly cleaned, we found in all three days of our stay the same pieces of plastic that had fallen there, our pajamas were always left unfolded and thrown on the bed, in the shower there was no foam shower and also the pillowcases of two pillows were torn. They do not have breakfast and do not have a luggage storage. Also on the site it was written that they had a rental car service and instead they sent us to a renter and we even had to take the metro to go there, it was not even close. All to pay even very high amounts. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

I was SO WORRIED about staying at this hotel before I went because I seen so many bad reviews on here. BUT we had the most lovely stay here so please don't worry about what you are reading on here.

Firstly, yes there is only one lift in operation but this is made aware to you upon booking. The longest we waited was honestly 5 minutes and there is a service lift you are allowed to use too. We were on the 10th floor and we just walked down the stairs most days - it only takes a couple of minutes if you really want to get out in a hurry.

Secondly, upon arrival you are charged $100 per night for the length of your stay. ie 3 nights = $300. This is only a pending transaction on your bank account and if you don't break anything or charge anything (drinks etc) to your room then this is all fully refunded upon checkout. You do have the option at checkout to pay the resort fee in cash or to have the resort fee taken off of the pending amount in your bank. But honestly its all very easy and there's nothing to worry about.

Lastly, the hotel itself is beautifully decorated. The lobby is stunning. Also the doorman is so helpful in getting you a taxi and negotiating rates with taxi drivers!

I'll definitely be booking this hotel for next year ☺️

Our experience of this hotel is very much marred by our first encounter with the hotel staff . Hotel looks great from the outside ,foyer smells great , location is perfect short distance from Central Park one way and short distance to Times Square and the Subway in the other. Beware a wolf in sheep’s clothing, on arrival at reception we were met with a very sour greeting from the receptionist who informed me she was going to block my credit card for $1400 , reeling from this ( I had paid for the holiday in full some months previously) I questioned the amount and she said oh actually it’s $900 which she said was for a security deposit or in case we spent money in the bar or shop which I said was ridiculous. She volunteered to get the manager , who was equally sour faced and said if I didn’t like it they would cancel my reservation and I would have to ask my agent to find us somewhere else for myself and my 18 year old daughter, bearing in mind it was by then 11pm UK time and not wanting to be left stranded in an unfamiliar city I felt we had no option but to go ahead with this! The receptionist refused to give me a receipt and said it would remain a pending transaction. This was not the case and I have had to wait 17 days for this to be returned to my card , and had to contact my credit card company! As we left the reception desk the receptionist shouted at me and don’t smoke in the room or it will cost you $500 ( I don’t and never have smoked ) . On arrival at our 11th floor room there was a large dirty stain on the carpet between our and next rooms door which remained for the entirely of our 9 day stay. The carpet was frayed in the room and the decor very tired , the blind and ceiling stained in parts. The room was extremely hot and we couldn’t open the window even slightly. We turned the heating off but most days we would come back to find it had been turned back on to 28 degrees! On the plus side the room was large the beds comfortable and we were given plenty of towels ( although they were rather small). There was no complimentary water in the room or kettle ( we asked for one but it never materialised) . There were two thin plastic cups on the dressing table!
As other guests have mentioned there was often a smell of weed on the landing and only one lift was working , which was usually very cramped , although we did meet some lovely fellow but equally disgruntled guests!

To conclude we loved NYC but I wished I had taken heed of the reviews prior to our trip and found a different much friendlier hotel that doesn’t try to scam its guests!

Nikki, it's unfortunate to hear about this first impression you received from our colleagues at reception. It's important to us that every interaction enhances your experience, so it's disappointing that we failed to meet expectations in this instance. We assure you the card holds are a standard procedure, not meant to cause distress but to ensure seamless transactions during your stay. Your comments about the room's condition and serve as vital information for us to improve on these aspects. Your citation of the smell on the landing is concerning, as we strictly enforce a smoke-free environment policy. We understand that these occurrences may have caused discomfort during your stay. It saddens us to hear your overall experience was less than enjoyable. By taking into account your invaluable feedback, we can implement changes necessary to ensure a more satisfactory visit for future guests. We are hopeful to have the opportunity of welcoming you back for a more enjoyable stay.

I am writing this post for all those who wish to go to New York for the first time, as happened to me and my family. I left with my wife and two children aged 9 and 12 from 17 to 24 April. Landed in New York at 1.30pm between checks and transport to the hotel, I arrived at the Central Park Hotel at 4pm. The majestic entrance of the hotel impressed me, even more I was impressed by the courtesy of the concierge staff. As soon as I checked into the hotel and received all the information, I went up to my room in the elevator; unlike what we read in the reviews, we never waited for unreasonable times, furthermore to improve the service they also allowed the use of the elevators reserved for staff (this aspect gave me awareness of their problem solving ability). When I got into the room (a bed the small size of hotel rooms in New York), I was favorably impressed, because in the room there were 2 double beds and an excellently sized bathroom. So very satisfied with the room too. During the stay there were no problems with cleaning in the room, except on the first day when they forgot to put 1 towel which, following my request, was resolved quickly. For breakfast they have a bar where you can buy both sweet and savory foods and provide a beautiful room (in which I took many photographs) where you can enjoy breakfast. In the hotel we met Elisabeth, a wonderful discovery, an institution in the hotel, as in addition to being kind and decisive, for those like me who have problems understanding the English language (especially American), she speaks Italian and is a harbinger of advice on what to see and where to eat without spending a fortune and this aspect alone is worth choosing this hotel, a heartfelt thank you for what it has done for us. However, applause to all the staff, always ready to answer our questions.
Finally, I remember the enviable location of the hotel, 300m from Central Park, 700m from Broadway District and 1km from Time Square. Subway 200m away with which we moved throughout New York from up town to down town. I conclude by saying that New York is a wonderful city that strikes you in every corner with all its contradictions, but doing it from a location like this hotel has an added value... which we will never forget... thanks Elisabeth and all the staff. .and see you soon. New York has remained in our hearts...

Positive note (the only one) is the location! 2 steps from Times Square and Central Park with subway around the corner.
For the rest, the hotel is practically devoid of services but the most serious thing is that the lifts are few for the number of people and often broken which generate queues and long waits (even 10/15 minutes)
We always went through the internal stairs and this is inconceivable for a hotel that costs almost 3000 dollars for a week for 4 people.
Small room (average for NY)
Cleaning of the rooms also needs to be improved in terms of timing (at 4.30 pm it was not yet ready)

The good: Great location, plenty of restaurants close, Central Park 2 blocks, Beds are comfortable. No problem with the lifts. Lovely team in the coffee shop. Coffe was acceptable.
The Bad: Check In off to a very bad start with rude and very unhelpful staff. No room booking, until she had a proper look. Wrong room type allocated. Eventually "found" the type we booked. No hotel or local information provided at check in except follow the prompts to log on the wifi only it didn't work and we needed to ask someone else for help. Room was beyond filthy. Dirty, thick dust everywhere, could not see out the windows. Housekeeping staff just ran away, couldn't care less. We asked if we had the correct room and bluntly told yes. Eventually after providing many photos we were moved after 6 days. Another rude and unhelpful front desk staff member when trying to swap room keys. Front desk staff and housekeeping apparently don't co-operate with each other and any issues have to be escalated and take days to action. We stayed in a corner room with 2 double beds fronting 7th Avenue. Noise is horrendous all night from yelling, horns sounding and the ever present sirens. Constuction works across the road until around 2am.
The Ugly: Even though we changed to the correct room which we had booked and could see out these windows, the 2nd room was still covered all the way around with a thick layer of dust. The furnishings are tired and outdated, All of the skirting boards and timber trims, window frames, TV stand and cabinet, side tables phone etc need a good proper deep clean. Carpets are old with holes and tears also thick with dust. We had our own disposable cleaning wipes and did clean both rooms as much as we could. Bathroom products in big pump bottles however mould all the way around the tiles. Also doors are in need of replacement with very rusty hinges.
No refrigerator or coffee/tea making in the room although we were given a mini fridge for medication. Again it was fight to get one even though we asked 6 full weeks in advance. Shrug of the shoulders and Its' up to housekeeping when we changed rooms.
After a very disappointing 14 day stay which was mostly not enjoyable we would not recommend this hotel at all even for 1 night.
Our 3rd visit to NYC from Australia in recent years and have never encountered such rude and unhelpful front desk staff.

This hotel is worth 5 stars for the location alone! A five minute walk to Central Park and 10 minutes to Times Square, this hotel is central enough to get to most of the sights on foot without being in the middle of the craziness of Times Square.

We had an accessible room as it was the only one available at the time of booking and it was enormous which was great for a 6 night stay!

Sadly, the service on the front desk was pretty poor.l consistently across the 6 days. The person at check-in demanded a $600 deposit despite the room being paid for in full and there not being a mini bar in the room. The enormous room only had two bedside lamps (no ceiling lights) which it very dark so I asked at reception for an additional lamp and the person was incredibly unhelpful and refused to confirm if they could look into the request. Later in the week we asked if a late check-out was possible and again faced another unhelpful person. After we checked out and went to the luggage check-in we waited for 10 minutes (with a long queue behind us), several members of staff walked past all of us and ignored us. Eventually the person responsible appeared (without any apology for the delay).

If you are a seasoned traveller across the US and are expecting a warm welcome, you won’t get that here but you will get a very convenient location. I’m also still awaiting my deposit to be returned (more than 24hrs after checking out).
