You could not get a better location, about a 20 second walk to Time Square. The rooms are not big, but are adequate, quite good storage. Comfortable clean beds and lovely bathroom, we quite enjoyed our view onto the street. We just used the breakfast for a grab & go coffee & pastry as the breakfast choice in NYC is vast! It is a limited continental selection but adequate for what we wanted. We booked into the Haven Roof Top Bar on our first night, good food & service and nice just to be able to drop the bags & wander up there to relax. I only rated 4 stars not 5 because we did think that some areas of the hotel could benefit from a freshen up & redecoration. Our room felt clean, but some areas are a bit tired. It’s quite an unusual quirky little hotel, but we enjoyed it and would return because of its location and staff. Excellent 5 stars customer service from everyone we encountered, a very warm welcome and obviously value their customers, Thank you for the thoughtful lovely treats you surprised our daughter with for her birthday. Linda B, you did great housekeeping on our room and a big shout out to the friendly, professional reception team, but especially to Vutha & Eddie on the door, always smiling, welcoming and willing to help. You couldn’t have a more convenient location, close to Times Square, Rockerfeller Center, Broadway, subway and other attractions within walking distance. It’s standard to take a room deposit in case of breakage or using the mini bar and it goes straight back on your card when you check out. Thank you for a great stay and helping to make our first trip to NYC such a special one, you are a great team.

We didn’t get off to the best start with this hotel but I must say the reception staff were exceptional in dealing with the issues we had. Very understanding and accommodating.
The first room allocated had a musty smell and after reporting this to reception, we were swiftly moved to a room at the front of the hotel facing the street. This room was extremely noisy, and I know given the location being so close to Times Square that this should be expected, but it honestly sounded like we were on the street and not in a hotel room! We did spend the first night in this room but mentioned it to reception in the morning. Reception staff were understanding and arranged for us to be moved to another room.
The room we eventually settled in didn’t have a view, we were looking out to a brick wall. This made the room feel a little dark, which wasn’t helped by only having 1 lamp in the room, but to be honest for all the time we spent in our room, it really wasn’t a huge issue. The rooms are pretty clean, however, the bedding did have a slight musty smell to it - I’m guessing this is perhaps due to where it’s being stored.
I’ve seen a lot of reviews complaining about breakfast. We thought breakfast was great to be honest. It’s enough for starting your day, and it’s included in the facility fee of $25 per night. This worked out pretty well for us since we were travelling as a family of 3.
The location of the hotel is perfect. Times Square is just at the end of the street, and it’s also within walking distance to a lot of the main tourist attractions. The exterior is gorgeous,a truly beautiful building. The reception area is stunning too, very welcoming with a real fire creating a warm & cosy vibe. It has a lovely scent too!

The Sanctuary is certainly in a wonderful location. The hotel is convenient to all of the touristy places downtown. In addition, the staff were amazing. Joshua got us checked in quickly and saw to our needs while Leonard made sure that we found our way to our room and open the door for us as we came and went. The continental breakfast is one of the better that I’ve had, everything is very fresh nothing seems cheap or leftover. It was a very enjoyable breakfast. I was not able to take a vantage of the restaurants because we were gone from dawn to dusk. I requested a couple of things, a toothbrush, and a corkscrew that either showed up late or not at all. The place is dark, very dark. Do not expect any light at any time of day. Even with the curtains open, it’s very dark. The elevator does not seem to be particularly reliable. But it’s only six stories so… I thought that this room was very reasonably priced at a very good location and the staff were wonderful. I will happily be a repeat visitor on my next visit if I decide to stay in Midtown.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Sanctuary. We were expecting our rooms to be much smaller and found the size of room absolutely fine. We were rarely in the room but everything worked, they were very comfortable and clean and we slept really well in extremely comfortable beds. Admittedly the hotel decor would not be to everyone's taste and the lack of natural light/view was slightly disappointing but as we were actually in the hotel for breakfast and sleep only, we saw as much of the view as we needed when out and about. The air conditioning was slightly noisy but didn't stop me sleeping and it worked really well, unlike some systems where it is uncontrollable. The daily amenities charge did not apply for Virgin customers, so the tea, coffee and water in reception 24/7 and access to the wi-fi was not an issue for us and worked well. The showers were a great size and the complimentary toiletries were very good, with plenty of towels always available. The only noise we heard was from unruly Brits in the corridor (twice only thankfully), which was very disappointing, otherwise it was very quiet. Admittedly we did not use any of the sushi restaurants (just not keen enough on sushi to choose that kind of restaurant) and I do think they could turn one of the sushi outlets into a less specialised eatery, and the Haven menu just didn't appeal but we found breakfast to be more than we were expecting: white & brown bread, bagels, cream cheese, jams, danish pasties, croissants, cereal, yoghurts, hot & cold breakfast beverages, huge red apples and bananas fresh every day - we certainly found enough to set us for the day. Our only breakfast complaint was that the toasters took several journeys before your bread was actually toasted! We did not have any cause to use the concierge services whilst there but all our queries were answered very promptly and fully when we emailed before our stay. Generally we found the staff to be very helpful and extremely pleasant. Obviously the biggest plus for this hotel is it's location - easy walking distance to so many of the things we wanted to see and very close to the subways too. We do intend to return to NYC and would certainly be happy to stay in The Sanctuary on any return trip.

New York has a wide and varied choice of hotels, non more so than in the area of Manhattan. We were staying for just 4 nights and wanted to see as much as possible, as this was our first visit to the "big apple".
The Sanctuary Hotel's central location was ideal being near Times Square, but thankfully just out of range from its round the clock noise.
Whilst agreeing with previous comments regarding the compact room size, the plus points of a sizeable comfortable bed, efficient air conditioning and a spacious powerful shower were a worthwhile compromise.
The service provided by all the staff was friendly and informative and cleanliness standards were kept throughout the hotel.
We would definitely recommend those visiting New York, especially for a relatively short stay, to consider staying at the Sanctuary Hotel.

If you want to be treated like a V.I.P., be sure that you stay at the intimate jewel of a hotel, The Sanctuary in New York City. It is located in busy mid-town Manhattan, close enough to walk to Times Square, Broadway theatres and wonderful restaurants. The city bustle disappears once the friendly doorman guides you into the lobby. On our arrival, Spencer greeted us at the reception desk and offered a warm welcome. We stayed in a pristine and cozy room on the 7th floor that had a comfortable king-size bed and a huge rainfall shower featuring a curtain that could be pulled closed for privacy. The continental breakfast offered bagels, croissants, cereal, juice and you can find coffee and tea available all day long at the reception desk. Best of all is the chic, upscale rooftop restaurant and bar, The Haven. Reception, wait staff and bartenders are experts at hospitality. Their attention to every detail makes you feel extra special. The food and cocktails are delicious and the view of the city below is thrilling. After an evening at the theatre, we returned to The Haven for another round of craft cocktails and to enjoy the bright moon shining above us. When it was time to check out, Nichole and Eddie were very helpful and stored our suitcases for a few hours so that we could attend a matinee and pick them up after the performance. The Sanctuary Hotel’s cordial ambiance and the meticulous attention provided by the entire staff and team is as close to perfection as you will experience anywhere. We will definitely be visiting again.

What a great hotel for our stay in New York! Best location with Times Square literally a few steps away yet we were far enough away to not be noisy. All staff were fabulous. Greeted by ? Dustin on arrival and then dealt with Vichet and Vutha and Jay - think I have the names right, they were all so helpful and lovely to deal with. hotel itself is very calm and peaceful with an oriental touch with some nice ‘statues’ in the hallway to the lift. Fires were blazing so very warm foyer. Lovely restaurant/bar area. Don’t expect a mega cooked breakfast, it is continental but enough to fill up before you go exploring. Nice bagels and cream cheese! Yum! No kettles in rooms so you will need to pop down in the morning to get a coffee if you need one to wake you up. Rooms were stylish although the ‘peek-a-boo’ shower was a giggle. 😂 curtains enclosed the shower unit but the shower room was very nicely presented and had nice shower gels, shampoos etc. The bed was very comfy and omg the pillows !……. I will be asking where they come from….best pillows I have ever slept on. Rooms are cleaned every day and bed tidied and pjs folded. Roof top restaurant and bar are great….an alpine ski resort feel, we only popped up for a few cocktails but there’s a nice vibe up there. We will definitely be visiting New York again and will definitely contact the hotel direct to book our next stay. Not sure why some would write such a negative review, maybe they are used to very posh hotels. The four of us are very easy going, we will rough it camping or stay in a nice 4-5 star hotel… we like to be chatty and have a banter with staff and glad we selected this hotel for a great long weekend. Denise and Dean xx

I arrived here at 10.30pm on a Saturday evening (after booking it at 10pm), staying for one night, because I was unable to stay in my booked accommodation. I arrived here with nothing, just the clothes I was wearing and a bag of chocolate. I was in a distressed state and the staff were amazing. They helped me to find clean clothes and toiletries.
In the morning when my luggage arrived, the doorman kindly brought it up to my room so that I didn’t have to see the delivery driver. I was in such a state I completely forgot to tip him and everyone else who helped me, so I’m apologising here and I’ll be back so will make it up to you then.
The breakfast is continental, but it’s big enough to keep you going for the day.
The room I stayed in was clean, fairly compact (I think they all are) and comfortable. The only thing to consider is that the hotel is in a great location (1 min from Times Square), but this also means you will hear the noise at night. Not that I was particularly bothered, as I was happy to be safe.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to visit the rooftop bar but I will next time. Overall a great stay, I just wish it was in better circumstances as I would have enjoyed it more.

A quick weekend trip to Manhattan. Excellent location in the midtown Manhattan about midway between the Central park and the K-town. The staff members (Eddie & Ana) were very friendly and quick to address questions, and the room, while being on the small side like in Paris or other European boutique hotels, was well maintained and overall the price was good. Will use again for another trip like this in the future.

The location is great for visiting Time Square and other areas close to there. Easy walking distance. The hotel is an updated older hotel like most things in NYC, and the rooms are very small. Literally only two hotel rooms wide. Hotel overall is a little dark but very clean and a very friendly and efficient staff.
Our King room did not have a separate bathroom per se. The toilet was in a small room by itself with sink but the shower and another sink are separate and only a foot or 2 from the bed, separated via a curtain you draw. Small area to step out of the shower but then you're in the bed area; you better like your travel partner. Room did have a safe and a small amount of space to hang clothes. Nice TV and a small desk beneath it.
King rooms are on the front of the hotel and ours was very noisy until 1AM or so. Bicycle tours with music blasting was primary source of that noise, even on our Sunday night stay. Front desk had ear plugs that worked well (must be a common complaint). Our room had a window AC unit, which also allowed outside noise in, but what we really needed was HEAT! It was cold that night and the Hotel team couldn't get the heat for our room working. We were offered another room, non-King, but that room ws even smaller and had odors from the kitchen infiltrating it. We opted for extra blankets and stayed in our King room for our 1-night stay. Hotel did provide some financial compensation for our troubles.
Breakfast was good and there was there was decent space to sit and eat. We ate in the library which was kind of cool.
Would we stay again? Maybe but we feel there are better choices and the price would need to be right.
