Located just off Avenue of the Americas, The Algonquin has a great history. Built around the early 1900s it became famous in the 1930s for the Round Table, a group of writers who met there every day for lunch.. The rooms are very much in the art deco style, and very comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Cat lovers...

Was there a couple of years ago and had a great visit. The staff was great and overall the place has a wonderful feeling of old New York the way it was before it became overrun with billionaires and bankers.

This hotel is in a great location, and is good value. What makes it exceptional is their staff, who go to great lengths to be helpful for their guests. We had an issue (not a minor one, and not the hotel's fault) and Gabriela Jimenez in the front office went OVER THE TOP to assist us, working well past midnight...

My husband and myself just returned from the Algonquin hotel in NYC. We live close to the city but choose to spend a couple of nights at the Algonquin after a lovely afternoon we spent at the Blue Bar several months ago. It is such a lovely place with such a warm and inviting atmosphere. The décor is classic old,...

The Algonquin is a great old hotel in which we have stayed as a couple and as a family number of times over several decades. However, we feel it is now in decline. While our suite was comfortable it was very dark, as is much of the hotel - perhaps part of its attraction. The food is poor and very...

Management response:

Dear guest, Please accept our sincere apology for the inconveniences that you experienced during your time here. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your food. We are accustomed to hearing good things about it. Our room service department was discontinued in December of 2015 due to extremely low demand. Which is also why we don't have mini bars...

When I go to NY and want to be close to my office, I choose this place because of its unassuming elegance. The lobby's fame is notorious - see their website or any menu. The rooms have been remodeled recently and the comfort was almost "heavenly bed-like" :) Don't miss out on the Blue Bar either. Great for after work...

Hotel wasn't bad but somehow expected an"autograph " Hotel to be more polished. A lot of the public areas look somewhat tired. The room was ok if a little pokey. Staff were very friendly and helpful though and the location is excellently

Awesome hotel with amazing staff! Two thumbs up to Edwin at the front desk with a very warm welcome. Cute bar in hotel and rooms have everything you need and are very clean. Housekeeping was not intrusive and room was refreshed daily. Very close to many attractions in NYC. Also you can check out an umbrella if it starts to...

A nice stay at an historic hotel! Rooms are not big but they are comfortable and the service is very good with the sole exception of the reception as they are not too helpful. Price is a bit high but... it is a real New York place!

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
