We treated family to a Broadway weekend and got four rooms for the group. My in-law's king suite was large with two rooms, my mother had a standard queen that seemed a little larger than my brother's of the same class, and my wife and I had a deluxe king room. It was our second stay at the Algonquin and... More

I tried a number of different midtown hotels while working in NY and this was my favourite. The rooms are small (some bathrooms are tiny), but to be expected. Recently re-done (still old fashioned design), the beds are very comfortable and the staff faultless.

We had a large family group stay here for our daughter's Columbia Law School graduation. The concierge and staff were great. This history of the hotel is interesting. Make sure you have breakfast in the restaurant and sit at the Algonquin round table! We were disappointed that they did not have room service but the bar/restaurant staff were great to... More

We shared the Simon & Schuster suite. It was very clean, comfortable, quiet for Manhattan. The hotel is very well located. We walked to Keen's Steakhouse, which was a treat. Just a very pleasant experience.

I've been to New York City many times and stayed in a variety of cool hotels. In my adventures, I've probably walked past the Algonquin dozens of times, peered in and always made a mental note to stay there one day for the classic New York City experience. Finally, we just did - and this wonderful hotel did not disappoint.... More

The Algonquin hotel is a very smart hotel steeped in lots of history. Well worth a visit but the staff seem slow at serving breakfast and drinks, despite this we will be staying again. The hotel is very well placed for Broadway and lots of great shows.

I stayed for 11 nights at $384 dollars a night. I expect a bit of a treat for that money and ended up feeling fleeced. I ended up using it as a bed for the night and could have got that far more cheaply - or, as I would have preferred, I could have got the full luxury hotel experience... More

I booked into this hotel. On arrival all staff were very friendly. On being shown to our room, my wife and I didn't fit inside the room with our total of two cabin bags and two open suitcases. We are small people, both under 85 kgs, about 180 lbs, and we couldn't open our bags except if they were on... More

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback in regards to your recent stay. The Algonquin is a boutique style hotel that has been in business since 1902. Great weekend in NYC. Algonquin is a quaint, historic hotel with a literary past. The location is outstanding. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Rooms are small but well appointed. Recommend a high floor room to muffle street noise. Sipping a cocktail where the literary greats of years past mingled was amazing.

This was my second stay at this hotel in the past few months. The rooms are unimpressive - either smelly of musty or bleach. Thankfully my second room was bleach. The hotels aroma though was so strong it gave me a headache and I was concerned my throats would close up. Not an impressive staff. Not worth the points.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
