I went to NYC with my son to see some shows on Broadway before he headed off to college. We couldn't have asked for a better location. I got a good price, so to me the location was worth it all, but the rooms were...More
I have read several reviews of this hotel dating back at least 2 years & I keep encountering the same theme. THE AIR CONDITIONERS DON'T WORK!!!! OR THE HEAT IS UNBARABLE!!!!! This is a hotel located in the single most popular area in NYC meaning...More
What's remarkable about this hotel was the price...affordable for being in the Theater District of NYC, walking distance from Times Square, etc.. And the efforts of the staff and the intention of the place as well. But then there's the place.... My room was an...More
It's an odd little place with tiny rooms and threadbare carpets. My room was being heated when it should have been cooling. The A/C remote did not work and I was told to open the window. Sleeping in a draft is never good but the...More

Midtown / Times Square / Theater District / Manhattan
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the
affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

No tickets there, but there are vendors on the street who will sell you bus tour tickets (they're legit) and I noticed people queuing up for same-day tickets to shows, etc. Before we left home I bought tickets for Ellis Island at a great price. Also, you can join Club Free Time (google it) to find the best prices (and often free tickets) to many events. We got free tickets to a concert at Juilliard, which was wonderful! Try to do a lot of this sort of thing at home, because you'll be on the run once you arrive.
Re: food--we didn't eat in the neighborhood of the hotel much. A few times we had a quick breakfast at several coffee shops...Le Bon Pain is one...always a good option if you're in a hurry. They have a good range of food from yogurt and fruit to pastries, and they have juices and good coffee. (This is breakfast...they also have lunch and dinner offerings). One night we had dinner at a Brazilian restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. It was spendy, but so worth it!! The name is Churrascaria Plataforma. It's a meat-lover's paradise, but the salad bar was equally to die for! The address is 316 W 49th St, New York, NY 10019 (between 8th and 9th avenues).
