A friendly reception upon arrival. I received a quiet room on the top floor as requested. The queen bed room was "compact" with a table and two chairs, a dresser, coffee maker, fridge (no freezer shelf) but NO microwave oven. The room had a balcony - shared with the neighbors. The bathroom was extremely small but clean and with plenty of toiletries. The room had no A/C, but I guess this area does not experience much heat. It was 37 degrees whrn I left on July 1st morning. A small breakfast of muffins, banana bread and coffee will be offered in the lobby after 8 am. Since I had to leave earlier, the restaurant staff gave me a tasty muffin and zucchini/banana bread in the evening. The in-house restaurant and bar are not cheap, but serve decent beers and german/austrian dishes. Overall a decent return on my $74+tax investment.

4 stars for the friendly & helpful desk staff; Larry, Kim, Jo Louis & Jose. Overall, the lodge looks dated & definitely needs some new carpets & curtains. The beds are clean & so is the bathroom. Breakfast is basic, no-frills, that you just grab & go. The lodge offers fresh fruits, hard boiled eggs, muffins & banana bread that you throw in a brown bag. Coffee & Tea are included. This works for the guests who are usually skiers & hikers who just require basic breakfast.
Parking is easy, be sure no food is left in the vehicle, bears do roam in the area. For skiers, the location is good since you can just walk to the nearby ski lift. About a block down is the bus stop for the trolley that goes downtown, another great convenience. There's a hot tub on the balcony overlooking the parking lot. Don't get the room close to the stairs on the main floor if you want to get good sleep. Another plus is the location in a nice, quiet neighborhood.

We decided to stay here in the middle of a week-long road trip to give ourselves an opportunity to shower and hopefully sleep on a nice mattress. Shower/bath, check. Nice mattress, not so much... Wish we had paid a little extra for a nice bed, although I'm not sure if they have those at this lodge. There were a lot of weird noises that kept waking us up at night too. We were impressed with the large jetted tub in the suite upgrade though. It was just what we needed. We had dinner at the restaurant downstairs and we were not disappointed. The food and beverages were delicious! They allowed us to check in early too, which was great. Had we known the campground at Twin Lakes offers showers though, we probably would have just gone there a day early instead. Location is decent and staff was friendly enough.

The Austria Hof management is very inflexible and customer unfriendly. We wanted to postpone our reservation because of the Corona crisis. The Austria Hof management did not accomodate any reservation changes. For our planned USA trip we made 25 hotel reservations. Austria Hof was the only hotel not accomodating a reservation change because of the Corona crisis, SO BE CAREFUL

Out of our control we weren’t able to get to Mammoth due to the flight cancellations. The Austria Hof decided that they should keep all three days and not even give us credit for one day of hotel charge. We have stayed there before and have eaten at the restaurant but will no longer be giving them our business. We reached out to them and had no success. Please be careful if you book with them as if something comes up during your travels you won’t get any of your money back.

Be aware they charge you the first night plus tax if you decided to cancel reservation even the next day. I reserved the room 3 weeks in advance and changed my mind the next day cause my plans were changed on that dates. After a long conversation with the hotel representative, they don't want to make a refund. So If you made a reservation by mistake or for any other reason just forget about your money. Use trusted services with good reviews and avoid scams. Absolutely bad impression even without visiting.

We had the evening and morning to see Mammoth while on the way up to Yosemite. It was a novety for us to stay in a small mountain lodge and we enjoyed its authenticity. We had a very large room with a fireplace, kitchenette and grab n go breakfast featuring fresh, homemade bananna bread and good coffee.
The staff answered all of our questions about Austria Hof’s story and even gave me some great tips on getting gas and road conditions up ahead.
The lodge has its own restaurant and a hot tub on a deck overlooking the small ski slope and lift area. It’s next to slopes and very close to everything Mammoth 🦣 lakes village has to offer.
Can’t wait to go back in winter to ski and fall to walk beautiful trails to nearby lakes.

Their cancellation policy is deceiving. We made a mistake booking and read that it was refundable until 14 days prior to arrival. It turns out that they added a small fine print that they will charge 1st night regardless.

I wish we read the reviews before booking. Lesson learned! Never again will we even consider Austria Hof Lodge.

I always try to support small and private businesses but decided to no longer support Austria Hof. Even changing the date or room type will cause you the first night charge penalty and they won't credit you even if you are staying on a different date or room type. It had happened to me twice and ended up paying nearly $600 for nothing. Their website is not user friendly and has some issues choosing room type. The room type automatically scrolls to the left (basic room) side of choices, so be careful. Okay, I selected the wrong type so rebooked after a minute with the right one and asked them to cancel the first one. I explained the reason why I rebooked but the management will not hear you and would not appreciate you even if you are a regular and still staying with them. I don't understand why they won't refund the money or credit it to my upcoming stay. The credit card company reimburse merchants more when they process refunds, not all the time but usually they get it back at a higher rate. Hard to get them the right person on the phone and email was only responded to once and no returned call... Despite their outdated building and rooms and dysfunctional amenities, to support the small business I made a direct reservation but I watested hard earned money. I stay in hotels an average 42 days a year and it was the worst hospitality experience by the management.

Our room at Austria Hof was clean and comfortable, with a pretty view of the pines and mountains. The bar and restaurant downstairs served good hamburgers and a variety of local and imported beers, several on tap. Service was friendly and efficient. The lodge is at the top of the road, right by the ski-lifts. In the summer, the ski runs serve as mountain biking or hiking paths. It is quiet and the air is fresh — a real respite. We visited in August; it must be wonderful in winter.
