I camped here on a recent Monday night so it was not very busy and I could pick many sites. I checked campsitephotos.com which always includes a list of best sites. This time I did not like the recommended sites and picked site 81. It was very spacious with neighbors being quite far away. The site is not completely flat... More

There are great paved bike paths, basketball, picnic areas, big grassy area, a hike around the park is nice as well. There is also a small skate park. It is very safe. The bathrooms are clean. Great for stargazing at night.

Family had 3 different camp sites, but not far from each other. Bathrooms were very clean, campground is quiet, the ranger was good too. Overall location is good, close to town. The only drawback is no showers! So glad sister in law rented a condo where we could shower each day.

We decided to stay here for a week and 1/2 for something new to do as we always Camp much further North every year. There are lots of Off Road back country roads around that we like to explore so that was our reason. It's a nice Campground and has nice flush bathrooms and place to get water. RV dump... More

We camped here for Labor Day 2014 weekend. We were very pleased with everything. Campground is quiet, clean, and the camp host was very nice and helpful. We camped in #128. It is a corner spot so there really is a lot of openness to this spot. There are a lot of rocks in the site which made it a... More

Thank you to Allison who recommended site #114 - it's a great site! I love this campground because it's close to town and you can walk across the street to a good breakfast place (Breakfast Club). The camp hosts are nice and the campground is clean including the bathrooms. It's also a great place to stay if you want to... More

My family just completed another good stay at New Shady Rest campground in the Inyo National Forest. I reviewed this campground last August (2013) and am happy to say that it is still a very good option for camping in the Mammoth Lakes area. We reserved a site in advance and were surprised to find the campground quite empty upon... More

New Shady Rest campground is located in the town of Mammoth Lakes, right off Highway 203, easily accessible from US 395. Normally, my family and I camp at Twin Lakes, however we were unable to get a reservation at that campground, so opted for New Shady Rest. We were pleasantly surprised. This campground features large camp sites. We reserved site... More
