Perched on the shore of Twin Lakes and steeped in rustic charm, historic Tamarack Lodge is Mammoth’s most secluded resort. Enjoy the outdoor adventures just beyond your doorstep and take a rejuvenating break from the modern world in pure comfort. Stay in one of our historic lodge rooms or in a lakeside cabin. Our mountain resort is located above 9,000 feet and we historically experience mild summer temperatures. Because of our cool summers, our hotel and rooms are not equipped with air conditioning. In winter our cabins are a short walk from our parking lot via a snowy groomed trail and 19 miles of Cross-country ski trails are accessible right outside your front door. Dogs are welcome in cabins only for an additional fee. Enjoy your stay in Mammoth Lakes!

Tamarack Lodge and Resort comes highly recommended for its warm service and rustic charm. Nestled in a location celebrated for its scenic surroundings and convenient access to local attractions, the lodge provides a cozy getaway with fireplaces and lake views that guests adore. While the rooms are snug and well-appointed, some visitors have noted limited space. The staff's attentiveness enhances the homey atmosphere, and despite additional fees, many find the value undeniable, especially with off-peak deals. Amenities, cleanliness, and unique dining experiences also receive high marks from travelers.

We had a two bedroom cabin with four people and our experience was very good. The full kitchen was more than adequate, the cabin was spacious as was the outside deck which had a partial view of the lake. The fireplace was nominal as to appearance but radiated generous heat, not to mention that there was regular heating as well.

The location of Tamarack was wonderful for us as we were in Mammoth to explore the surrounding area. If you are a skier then perhaps your would want to stay closer to the slopes but having said that, Mammoth Mountain was only about 10 minutes away. Set on the picturesque Twin Lakes, Tamarack offers kayak and paddle board rentals at a discount for guests and the same goes for e bikes. I recommend taking advantage of all of that. The lodge is minutes from downtown and restaurants as well grocery stores and drug stores as well as roads to scenic drives and the 395 north to Mono Lake and the 203 to the mountain and Devil's Postpile. From this location you can relax at the Twin Lakes or head out to easily explore all that the local area has to offer including many different hikes in the high Sierras and the Mammoth Lakes region. I will let you judge whether this location is expensive or not because to me that is a personal decision and everyone has a different idea of what expensive is.

Another amazing stay!
This is our favorite place to stay in Mammoth! For this trip we chose cabin 30. In our opinion it has the best view! The cabin was in pristine condition and had everything we needed. Even though the kitchen is furnished you still need to bring your own foil, baggies, food containers etc. but don’t worry, if you need anything just call the front desk and they will do their best to accommodate you. Brian and David are amazing! Actually all the staff we encountered went above and beyond to ensure our stay was excellent! Every morning at 7 AM they delivered our continental breakfast!. We made use of the gas grills which are conveniently located close to the cabin. They were clean and in good working order. We did not have barbecue tongs but we were able to obtain some from the front desk. One of the reasons we enjoy staying here is the peace and quiet. Everyone is respectful of one another. The only suggestion I would make for cabin 30 is to put some hooks, shelves or a place to hang clothes in the master bedroom. A hook on the back of the bathroom door would be helpful. We look forward to a return trip to Tamarack Lodge. You will thoroughly enjoy your stay here.

My wife and I have stayed at Tamarack before and I've already written a review about how charming, clean, and ideal the place is for a mountain getaway. But today I wanted to write about the excellent customer service we received that made the trip so much better.

Everyone at Tamarack is always so friendly and real. The conversations feel genuine and not phony. The trip started off with Dave helping us book over the phone and reserving our favorite cabin there. Then Renee checked us in when we arrived and she was sweet and accommodating. Offered us warm cider upon arrival which was welcoming. Then we had a slight issue with our fireplace in the cabin at one point, and instead of fiddling with it myself I called the front desk and Josh was over in less than 5 minutes. He was more than happy to help out even though it was late and cold outside. He fixed it promptly and we were all set.

Drake was bartending in the lodge one night, and we wanted to know if there were any vegan options on the menu in the restaurant. Even though it wasn't his job to inform us of that, he went back to see the chef and asked what could be done. He then told us about his favorite vegan menu items in the past. Anyways, we ended up eating at the restaurant (The Lakefront Restaurant), and it was delicious and romantic!

Merlin was the second biggest help on this trip. He's always on the move willing to help guests and offer a hand where he can, He's the antithesis of lazy. He saw me brushing snow off my car one morning after the storm, and he came right over and helped me out. I'm sure he had a million other tasks to do that morning, but a kind gesture like that goes a long way. Then we were waiting for the bus one morning cause we were snowed in, and it wasn't coming because the roads weren't plowed enough yet. That's where our main protagonist of the trip, Brian, came to the rescue. He saw that we were eager to get on the mountain for some fresh pow runs, so he asked Merlin to drive us to the Village and he did.

Brian runs such an efficient, tight ship there in the mornings we saw him. And always with a smile on his face. He was constantly helping us out all trip, making good conversation, and just being very personable. He was checking the shuttle bus for us, calling in to see if they were running on storm days. Always finding solutions to problems. Very impressive!

Customer service and attention to detail like this makes an already charming place even more memorable!

I have been meaning to write this email for a few weeks now. My husband & I live in Truckee and decided on a whim to come to Mammoth mid-week for a getaway ski trip. We were coming with our dog so we were limited on places we could stay. We called the Tamarack Lodge first and I spoke with a reservationist named Adrianna (? Spelling). She was beyond friendly, communicative, helpful and extremely patient with my million questions! 😊 We did not end up booking at the Tamarack due to pricing but I will 100% recommend people staying here since Adrianna was so nice and accommodating!

My husband and I both work in the hospitality industry and it really goes a long way when employees/staff make a property shine.

Thank you!!!

This is in a lovely place. The staff was helpful and polite.

We were traveling through and not needing/wanting the lodge and resort amenities. There was no television. Although not needed in November, there was no air conditioning (some might want that, depending on one's own body thermostat.) A large person might have problems showering in the bathroom of our room. I noticed that this would have not been ADA accessible, although the cabins might offer that ability.

The blurb says breakfast is included. There is a "resort fee" that covers the breakfast, which appears from the check-off menu to be a continental type option. If you don't get the breakfast, the resort fee is waived (unless, I assume, you use other resort amenities.)

Tamarack needs to be updated. We stayed in a “historic cabin” which needed clean bedding and a remodeled bathroom. There was no shower pressure, and the whole bathroom was in disrepair. It was not worth the cost of the room and the additional “resort fee”. The staff were very professional and friendly, but the whole place needs to be refreshed.

If you want a classic cabin in the woods this is the place to be. The cabins are not brand new, they are not trendy, they are not "perfect," but that is exactly what makes Tamarack Lodge cabins so authentic. Its one of the things that my family (son 17 and daughter 14) liked too. Note: our cabin didn't have a TV and while the front desk said we could have one brought to our cabin with DVDs, it was nice just playing cards and hanging out by the fire (sometimes on our phones) together.
The best part of the resort is the service: especially Bruce. The staff was so friendly. When we got there, the road to the cabin was too icy to drive so Bruce brought a snow truck to our vehicle, loaded all of our stuff onto it and then unloaded all of it in our cabin. My son got sick while we were there, and at 8pm I called the front deck, Bruce answered, and I asked him where I could get some medication for him at this hour. He asked what I needed and both over-the-counter medications were brought to my cabins within 45 mins. He also brought us extra coffee packets and picked up our kitchen trash when needed.
Honestly, the employees make the stay so easy considering you are out in the woods and there was a ton of snow. Would definitely stay here again. (Just remember to bring some board/card games).

I've been going to Mammoth for over 30 years now and usually stay at the Tamarack Lodge. The last visit was in February when the snow covered the ground and skiing was great. We rented a cabin just across from the cross-country skiing hut, so my view washing dishes looked like a picture post card. I had a place rented last October, but the fires made that impossible - along with Covid 19. My next trip is planned for May when everything will be bright green. Over the years, Mammoth has changed, but Tamarack has managed to maintain its charm. If you want to wild and party hardy, rent a condo in town - this isn't a good fit. If you want quiet and beauty, rent here. I' looking forward to May when I get to go back!

I grew up going to the High Sierras for family vacations my entire life. As we started a family of our own, we have been looking for the “perfect” place to relax and enjoy nature but also enjoy the convenience of resort amenities. Our dear friends told us about Tamarack Lodge and we were curious. After one visit, we were hooked! We’ve stayed several times now and it keeps getting better and better.

To start, the location is perfect. Far enough from the town crowds, but close enough to run to the grocery store, or make a dinner reservation. On the days we want to stay in, they have a general store on site, a quaint restaurant with special dinner entrees and a cozy piano lounge bar for a delicious martini or glass of wine at the end of the day, both with an amazing lake view.

And of course, no special vacation can be perfect without incredible service from the staff. The team takes care of visitors as if you were in their own home. From checking us in to the lodge, to tending to our needs while on site, to delivering our breakfast to our cabin doorstep daily - the team provides service with a joyful spirit. This reflects the strong leadership that empowers the team to make decisions and serve their guests. This makes the entire experience a memorable one. Donald, David, Bruce, Tim, Shon and Victoria each helped us with various services throughout our stay. Donald and Tim greeted us when we arrived and were helpful throughout our stay. Shon makes a killer blackberry martini that my sister and I look forward to again! David and Bruce were beyond patient with us while answering all of our delivery requests and trash services, he did so with a smile and was happy to help us enjoy our stay. Victoria and Tim helped us with one of our furnaces in the cabin and were patient and helpful with all our questions. The theme here is that they work as a team to take care of the guests and wear many hats wherever there is a need. I saw that clearly and that is the mark of excellent leadership.

We will be back again very soon and look forward to a lifetime of memories now that we have found this special place! We are thrilled to have found the perfect spot that we can relax on some days with fishing, hiking, and kayaking out our front door, or take an adventure into town and enjoy the excitement of the town!

This is my second stay in this lodge. I love the location. It is right in front of twin lakes. The business also offers cabins for bigger families or if you want more privacy. There is a fine dining restaurant on the first floor. The lodge rooms are on the second floor. We booked a room with private bathroom and I like the convenience since some rooms have shared bathroom. The only thing I would say about my room is that since the lodge is older, the bathroom is tiny. I am not a big person nor am I tall and I hardly fit. So just be aware if you do book this type of room. The shared bathrooms are bigger as you have to physically walk down the hallway to get to the shared showers. The room did not have enough side table to accommodate the coffee maker so we had to use the chair. Not enough plugs in the room either. Our room faced the lake but was covered with a big tree so not much to see. Parking can get pretty full as there are people that park there for a day visit. Breakfast option was mediocre such as cereal, bagel, muffins, etc. Nothing special. Can be improved.

There is definitely a bike path that goes down the hill to Mammoth Town center area and with some starts and stops and perhaps some bike lanes on the road I believe it goes all the way out to 395 or at least close to it. As for the mountain lodge and the lifts, I believe that may be street riding as I do not recall seeing a path. Having said that the traffic on that road was light when we were there in August and I would assume you can ride an ebike on it but I am certainly not the end all of information on that. Be safe.

I think you should call them directly. When I was there, everyone in the lodge had a mask on. No one wanted to get Covid. Since there’s an uptick of Covid D right now I’m sure they’re being very careful. If you’re walking around outside, in the woods, no one had masks on.
