After being informed of all of the hidden fees upon check-in, including $25/day for parking, our stay had already begun on a sour note. Only to return from a night on the town to a Public Health notice on the door advising everyone to vacate the premises!... Hotel staff assured

Stay was very enjoyable overall. My only complaint is with the packages offered by the hotel. I purchased the "Savor & Stay" package on the hotel website, which was supposed to include the usual breakfast along with several additional amenities. The staff at the front desk were

Review collected in partnership with this hotel
Booked as part of a Visit Philly promotion. I picked this hotel, because it looked a little quirky, and we weren't disappointed. Located right in the middle of everything and within walking distance of restaurants, theater, City Hall, and transportation, it was a bit hard to

The Independent is situated in a beautiful old building in a great location in Philadelphia. It's right near the many eating places on 13th Street. This was probably the only drawback though. On weekends the street noise was quite loud, so I would suggest ear plugs for your

Response from Emma W, General Manager at The Independent Hotel
Responded 2 weeks ago
Thank you so much for taking the time to review the hotel! I truly believe all feedback is good feedback as it helps us better understand our strengths and weaknesses. I'm very sorry for some of the issues you experienced while here. Based on your comments it sounds like there was some confusion at the front desk causing you to miss breakfast. Please know I take total and complete responsibility for that. As the manager it is my job to ensure that everyone is trained correctly so that they have all the tools they need to provide our guests with the best experience possible. I know that there can be a lot for the team to do to ensure everything is perfect for our guests, but that should never impact our guest’s experience. So again I am truly sorry that you were unable to have breakfast while staying with us. Additionally, I am so sorry did not have a restful stay with us either. It would seem you experienced quite a busy night in the city and in the hotel. As you know now all too well while our location has many advantages, being in the center of everything brings a lot of noise with it. While I know your first impress was not the best, I do hope you will come back and we can have you stay in a room that doesn't face Locust street and show you what staying at The Independent is truly like! Thank you again for your review!

I stayed there overnight in May and had no problem at all with noise from the street. It did not appear to be a busy street. I think there is a pub-style restaurant at the corner of the building but there wasn't noise from that, either. I slept perfectly well. No doubt the hotel has air-conditioning----in May, I didn't need to find out about that----and if so, you can keep the windows shut to avoid hearing anything that might make noise in the street.

Our Lobby is Located on the second floor and unfortunately the elevator is the only access to get to the lobby area. You can use the side steps, it's for exit only, However to come in you will have to call the desk first and we will make sure to open it for you.
