I rated my stay a 3 because it was a pretty average experience.

The location of the property is just FANTASTIC; it's literally right next to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell center, a few blocks from the Penn's Landing waterfront, close to city hall, and not far from South Street with tons of different restaurants, shops, etc. I don't think any hotel in Downtown Philly is better situated.

The parking situation is a bit odd. The hotel advertises valet service but when you pull up there is no one readily available to provide that service (you have to go inside); however, there is a public parking garage literally around the corner and the rates are cheaper than the valet anyway (and FYI, the hotel uses that garage for valet as well, so you might as well save yourself the valet cost).

The hotel was clearly recently renovated and the rooms are uniquely and nicely decorated, and very fitting for the Philly culture and feel. My only gripes here are that the Black accent walls can make the room feel a bit dark and the lack of storage space is strange for a hotel (there's only like 2 small drawers and a SUPER tiny closet); seems an odd design choice when the room clearly has ample space to accommodate more storage. The hotel definitely has the feel of a smaller boutique hotel, which is nice if you enjoy that kind of experience.

The service was decent, but not as stellar as I've come to expect from a Renaissance Hotel. My biggest gripes (other than the delays in waiting for an elevator since they're small and the restrictions are to have only 2 people at a time in them or one party) were the lack of basic amenities that you would expect from a 4-star hotel, like having a little shop to pick up essentials or even vending machines.

Also, my husband and I have stayed at a few hotels during this covid era and it didn't seem like the hotel takes the cleanliness and disinfecting of public spaces and rooms as seriously or thoroughly as other hotels. We never once saw anyone wiping down anything in public spaces (and we were in and out of the hotel for 3 days straight) and we even saw one of the housekeepers cleaning one of the rooms on our floor without wearing a mask. I did provide this feedback to the hotel and someone got back to me right away, which was nice.

All in all, not a bad stay.

Hi DereckNB, thank you for taking the time to offer us your review and feedback on your stay with us. I did reply to you internally as well from your survey and I'm thankful that you received that quickly and I was able to address your concerns. As an update from our communication I did already speak with the housekeeping supervisor and we were able to speak with the housekeeper assigned to that floor and will also re-address the importance of correct PPE procedure with all teams to reinforce the issue. We do so regularly however it is critical that we continue to do so during these times. Please allow me to apologize for the delay with the valet service as we do our very best to meet every guest that pulls up outside. Our valet also work as bellmen as we've worked to staff our property according to the current needs and they were most likely assisting another guest at the time. I thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback and I'm glad that overall you did enjoy your stay with us. We hope to be able to host you again soon.

On the plus side, the front desk was helpful, friendly and quick to assist. While the location is stone throw to all the historic site especially the famous broken bell and the Penns Landing. Also, not to forget there is a newly built Fashion District area closeby for shopping. However, the entrance need to brighten up since one has to pass through the dimly lit restaurant towards the check in hidden on the left corner. The shocker was that wifi is not free unless you are a bonvoy member. Housekeeping on the other hand needs to be vigilant as the sheet was stained. Scrathed up furniture in the room needs to be refreshed. Overall experience was satisfactory.

The hotel is right in the middle of everything, and all of the sights are in easy walking distance. I recommend parking in the lot behind the hotel, which is significantly cheaper than using the valet. We did not use our car the entire visit. The hotel was clean and quiet. However, the decor is very dark - black and grey walls make the room dimly lit so that it was difficult to see. I also would have liked a room with a better view than the alley. The bathroom light was broken and never fixed despite our phone call to the front desk. Overall it was a good experience.

By far the worst Marriott Bonvoy hotel by far .
Worst experience stayed 1 night at Renaissance Checked in gave us room went to room the A/C wasn't working properly sounded like ot was on last legs then gave handicap room which we didn't need wife went to take shower in tub bathtub drain wasn't working properly and not draining sink was the same way couldn't take shower for dinner reservations
On top of that iron didn't work and fridge wasn't working well either called front desk to get moved had to wait for next room. We had to cancel or dinner reservations while waiting to move room by that time was 9pm was told we would receive a credit moved us to another room while later so we emoved things and went out to find a place to eat. Came back after midnight to find bathroomtoilet was leaking big puddle of water and had to clean up and put towelsdownway to late to move room called desk and was told we would be refunded room as it was a sell out hotel and couldn't get moved. Horrible experience Horrible stay
Wouldn't give it a half star review
Checked out early and was told sorry and I asked about credit to account and said it was being processed. 2 days still no refund and I reached out and called hotel 2 times airway no response about credit
Do yourself a favor don't book a room here at this hotel

This hotel starts slowly, picks up steam, and hits it out of the park. All the small things matter. The lobby and particularly the check-in site are not impressive, but the staff is. They answered questions, took care of issues, and handed me water. The room has plenty of surfaces, which is critical. I look out my window and see Independence Hall. There are more than enough towels, a washcloth is already in the shower, which is a great shower. The lobby bar is a great place to watch the game and the food is good. The continental breakfast is great, salmon, etc. There is a goo fitness room in the basement and a pool and a hot tub. Always, there is a lot of very helpful staff. And the location cannot be beat.

Only the reason I chose is bringing our pet.(Extra $50 charge) Stayed here for a award night with additional points. The location(Near old town) and kind staffs can help this typical small boutique hotel to survive.
Never be luxury or having good restaurants.
Only one restaurant serve bland foods. Breackfast is avery limited and dry. $25 per person is not worth it.
The hotel give elite tier members mere a $10 food credt.
I had to pay over $40 for terrible breakfast even after credits(3 people)
Only valet parking is available($45)
I was not satisfied and will not return here.

Having stayed at many hotels, motels, and resorts globally. To our pleasant surprise, this one has the best hospitality. From the valet service that greeted us when we pulled up to Joe that saw us off as we departed, the hospitality was top notch. Even ahead of our arrival, the staff was helpful in answering our questions related to parking and navigating to the hotel. When we requested a later checkout time, the response was “what time works best for you?”
The room and other facilities also exceeded our expectations. The beds were comfy, the room was clean and spacious. If you are looking for a place to stay for work or pleasure in the historic area of Philadelphia, I highly recommend the Renaissance Philadelphia Downtown Hotel.
This hotel will definitely be our goto location whenever we are in the area.
Thanks to the staff for making our stay a stellar and stress free experience.

Staff went above and beyond, granted us late checkout for a later flight. Friendly faces and welcome reception. No housekeeping during Covid, but even at hotels that offer it we usually decline it. Yes the decor is funky and dark but it’s part of the charm, and matches several “out there” museums in the area. With the shades drawn the room is just as lit as any other hotel. Bathroom is nice and actual room was spacious. Would definitely return due to its perfect location close to great food on market street, independence hall is literally less than a minute walk away. And it’s across from the second Bank of America with a great portrait gallery. About a 5 minute walk the other way is penns landing and the river for more great scenery. No need to stay in other parts of philly as you can walk everywhere or use the metro if you need. Even city hall is only 0.6 miles away. Don’t overlook this hotel, it’s perfect for the value.

We visited Philly for a weekend and stayed at the Renaissance Philadelphia Downtown Hotel for two nights in June 2021 with our 3 year old son. Our room was at the end of the hall and was spacious. The hotel was very clean, as a person that's somewhat of a germaphobe and because my son likes to touch things, I usually wipe everything down myself with Clorox wipes. The staff at the hotel was very kind. When we arrived on Friday night Jen greeted us outside and Kyle checked us in. Tracy was also kind. Overall we enjoyed our stay due to the friendly staff, location (walking distance to lots of things), decor, and cleanliness. We will definitely be back if we're in Philly again. Hopefully the pool will be open next time, it was closed due to the pandemic.

Three of us stayed from 4/15 - 4/18/22 for a long weekend to visit our son in Philly. From the moment we checked in, all staff we encountered were more than welcoming, helpful, kind, friendly, professional, and went above and beyond our expectations. The location is less than a minute to Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and much more. We were able to walk to great restaurants, museums, etc. There is a restaurant/bar in the lobby, Though we have a dog but he did not make the trip with us, they do welcome pets and have a doggy water bowl immediately upon entry...that's a huge plus! The staff accommodated a couple of requests that we had without batting an eye (one of which was to move rooms as we were next to a crying baby all night...felt bad for the baby but we didn't sleep well). They literally moved us within a matter of 20 minutes and were happy to do so. Our rooms were impeccably clean, they have Keurig coffee makers, tea, etc.
After complimenting the staff to one of the hotel managers, his response was that they pride themselves on their service/roles; it definitely shows. Great hotel/staff/location/value. We will be going back for sure.
