Rooms are big, right on Temple U. Campus. Food subway very close, movie theater and not far from Art Museum and Rocky Statue. The neighboring area is mixed income. We got around mostly by foot and subway.

This hotel is an older hotel that could use some updates. That being said, it was the perfect location for the graduation we were attending at the Liacouras center on Broad Street. We walked to the ceremony no problem and we had two older people in our party. The staff was very nice and generally accommodating. We had a couple of small hiccups, first, the tub in room 205 didn’t drain very well. Second, we requested a rollaway bed for our final night and were assured it would be put in the room, it never was. Lastly, our final day at the hotel housekeeping never materialized to clean or replace towels. These were all minor things, sure, but still a little annoying. All in all, it was a pleasant stay and if we ever needed to visit Philly again would certainly stay at the Connell Inn.

Older hotel that could use some updates, but for the price you can't beat it. Toilet ran and was very loud, beds have no side support in the 2 queen rooms so not suitable for 2 people in bed. Peeling/ stained wallpaper in bathrooms. Rooms are clean, and basic with no microwave or fridge. One room the keys wouldn't work so the staff had to let us in each time. One room the door didn't latch all the way and could be pushed open and dead bolt didn't work. We had 4 rooms for one night. Cute place. Wish saxby's was open earlier but the 711 was very close. Signage to parking needs to be lit or painted better for nighttime. Easy to miss.

The best part of the Conwell Inn is the location. Smack in the center of campus, everything is walking distance. Once we parked our car, we were able to tour the campus and our son was able to get a real sense of the what it would be like to live on campus. The actual room was ok. Definitely needs some upgrades but the location made up for what the room lacked. The purpose of our visit was to see Temple and not relax in the room. I highly recommend it to any high school student looking to tour Temple.

I stayed two nights when visiting my son at Temple University for a performance. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The location was convenient and right near the Performing Arts Center. I met the general manager and two front-desk staff who were college students. All were friendly and helpful. Some of the rooms were being renovated when I visited. The sound was noticeable from outside the front entrance. I worked during the day inside my room and it was completely quiet. Overall, I enjoyed a very pleasant stay!

Stayed here for 3 nights. The room was OK and nice and clean. The bathroom smallish and not well lit. Had toilet issues that were handled right away. Even tho we walked almost all over Philadelphia, it's definitely not centrally located. If you are visiting Temple University, it's fine. We believe hotel is in steps of 'renovation' - if basic/no breakfast is OK, this is a good option. GREAT coffee shop attached to it.

I paid in advance for a night last week through hotels.com and received confirmation but when I arrived the hotel it was closed for construction. There are no ways to get in touch with hotel, no voice mail nor the hotel responded to my email. Hotels.com claimed that the hotel received my payment and did not return my request for refund. This is ridiculous. Knowing your property is not available but accepting my payment. It is a scam.

Is your student considering attending Temple University and you need a close place to stay? Look no further! The Conwell Inn is located right on campus and adjacent to the Campus Police. This hidden little gem is also nestled right next to Saxby’s amazing coffee house. There is a connecting door from the lobby, so you don’t even have to venture out into the cold in search of your Liquid Courage! The Conwell Inn also offers complimentary Keurig coffee and hot tea in its quaint lobby all day along with cookies in the evening. Although the hotel is a bit dated, it is clean, cozy, and easier on parent’s wallets than the hotels downtown. The convenience of being within only a few minutes’ walk from most of campus is absolutely priceless. Conwell Inn earns an A for location and price in my book!

Thanks so much for your kind words. We aim to be everyone's home away from home at Temple University. I appreciate you taking the time to point out all of the conveniences of having a great coffee shop connected to our lobby, in addition to being steps away from almost anything campus has to offer. As for the "dated," we ARE constantly updating, with the next round of changes starting January 16th through the end of this month - completely revamping three more rooms (we did six over the course of the past six months) and adding brand-new beds, nightstands, and lighting to every single room. Thanks for becoming part of the Conwell family, and we look forward to having you as our guest in the future! Justin R Walsh General Manager

It was a dark and stormy night. A cold rain whipped through the alleyway as we parked in the tiny lot, so discreet as to be nearly undetectable. We dragged our roll-on travel bag through the inclement weather to the front of the inn and stood at the desk for five minutes. No bell, no staff, no phone. When an employee appeared, she was curt and ambivalent. We finally reached our room on the third floor, expectations already lowered. The well-worn room was like a sauna, and we found there was no way to cool it (no AC in winter). Carpet was worn, furnishings dated. When we returned to the front desk and waited to ask about a vending machine to get drinks, we were told “go outside, take a left and there’s a 7/11.” Ice is available, but only in a creepy basement area. No refrigerator in our room. The only positive we could come up with is the Conwell Inn’s convenient location. We were here to bring our freshman Owl back after Thanksgiving break, and the Inn is convenient to campus. At the price we paid, however, I think we’ll find a hotel with a few amenities and climate-controlled rooms next time.

Response from GM_of_TheConwellInn, General Manager at Conwell Inn

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. I'm sorry that your experience was less than perfect. Thank you for pointing out how discreet our lot is - many guests love the opportunity to park in a smaller lot right next to the hotel as opposed to a large and inconvenient parking garage blocks away as you would deal with at most Philadelphia or University hotels in general. Unfortunately, as a small hotel, there are times that the Front Desk Agent may be assisting another one of our guests, which is why we place a "Front Desk will return in a moment" sign at the desk in such instances. I'm glad they were able to return and assist in a timely matter of five minutes. The fact that we are connected to a 24 hour 7/11 is a great perk to most guests, as right next door you have a wealth of options that a vending machine or two could never come close to achieving. Also, while our rooms do not offer refrigerators by default, we do indeed have them and would have been happy to add one to your room if you had requested. I am sorry that you had a stay that was encumbered by rain clouds overhead, but do hope you give us a chance to show you some sunny skies in the future. All the best! Justin R Walsh General Manager
