Detailed Reviews
Immaculate! I don't write reviews often, but each time we've stayed at the Conwell Inn our room was extremely clean ... not a hair or speck of dust to be found. The staff is friendly and fun to talk to (many are students). The hotel is a converted old house, so it feels "antique" and has very few rooms. Very quaint and comfortable. This hotel is on Temple's campus in North Philadelphia so you'll hear "city sounds" but it's tucked away enough that it's not too bad at all (and I'm a very light sleeper).

I would have given it a 5... but... that bed was too terribly soft and felt like it sank in the middle to the point where it negatively impacted sleep and even moving throughout the night to shift to a new sleeping position was difficult, uncomfortable and painful... It wasn't just me; it was my partner too. I will ignore the light pollution in the room as the lights are off and the parties outside the room because we know it's a college campus... but I feel bad leaving a 4/5 star review but I could not justify that bed! We got a lack of sleep throughout our stay. Before management comes for us with a response of "why didn't you say anything during the stay?!" I saw other reviews about the soft beds and there is no way you could have helped if we said anything. Get moved to a new room with another terrible bed? That's okay, we dealt with it but felt we weren't the only ones suffering.
Cleaniness, comfortability, location, and friendliness of staff: 5 out fo 5 stars! Literally don't have anything negative to say about those items. Sadly... the bed severely negavetly impacted our stay. Yes, the sink doesn't have a lot of space for usage but that didn't combat the bed situation. We don't know if we will be back in the area soon but if we are we will consider that mattress situation...
There was an odd situation with an inexperienced employee not knowing why we were getting charged something or not getting charged, etc... she said "just tell the openers in the morning that I don't know what is happening and they can figure it out and your bill and what's happening..." Sometimes the door would not lock as we left but I did tell the person we checked out with that it was having issues. She said she was thankful for the information and will pass it along to the building matieince people.
Oh, and the parking was fine. SMALL (ex-small) spaces and you gotta be lucky to get one! Yes, they might tow illegal parkers BUT they seem to fill up fast. We had our car inches from another car (each side of the car) also just trying to park for the hotel... expect dings and scrapes and no room to open doors, etc. heads up. $20 a night is excessive BUT at least you can probably park for the area?!

This hotel is an older hotel that could use some updates. That being said, it was the perfect location for the graduation we were attending at the Liacouras center on Broad Street. We walked to the ceremony no problem and we had two older people in our party. The staff was very nice and generally accommodating. We had a couple of small hiccups, first, the tub in room 205 didn’t drain very well. Second, we requested a rollaway bed for our final night and were assured it would be put in the room, it never was. Lastly, our final day at the hotel housekeeping never materialized to clean or replace towels. These were all minor things, sure, but still a little annoying. All in all, it was a pleasant stay and if we ever needed to visit Philly again would certainly stay at the Connell Inn.

Booked this place specifically looking for a spot with Air Conditioning. When we got here we turned the A/C down and noticed no cool air blowing. We assumed that it just had to start up first and tried to sleep. Both of us barely got any sleep due to how hot this room became overnight. Upon speaking with the front desk in the morning they stated “oh we don’t cool in the winter” to which I said they specifically advertise A/C in the rooms. I got a reply that “we condition our rooms to be warm in the winter.” This is not what I would believe 99% of people mean when they book a place specifically with A/C. A quick search for the definition of Air Conditioning yields “Air conditioning, often abbreviated as A/C or AC, is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space to achieve a more comfortable interior environment.” Additionally the first week of October is not considered winter anywhere in the world… We tried opening the windows to make it cooler (which it did to be fair), but the noise on the street behind was super loud with truck backup noises and loud college students out late making it difficult to sleep.

Worst hotel experience ever. Reserved three rooms and cancelled one. Have emailed from Inn specifically stating two rooms confirmed reserved for 9/30. Received emails confirming reservations this week. Called hotel all morning before I even left. Phone just rings and goes to what sounds like cell phone voicemail recording that says “voicemail has not been set up yet”. This is actually how the hotel deals with phone calls. This was for hours. No answer. So we made our way into the City. One of the rooms is for my senior citizen in laws traveling from out of state as we are. Once in Philadelphia finally someone answered and said our reservation was cancelled accidentally. She said an inexperienced front desk clerk cancelled all three rooms when I asked for cancellation of only one. I explained I had an email to verify the hotel confirmed my two rooms remained reserved. The clerk said I can do nothing. You must email the general manager, he has no email. I asked her to have him call me. I received no response so I stopped at the hotel. I was told the general manager, Justin Walsh, spoke to clerk but was unwilling to speak to me until Monday. The clerk previously advised the policy was generally to provide alternate lodging but instead inexplicably turned around said I can’t help you anymore and locked herself in her office. You can’t make this stuff up. We were left with no lodging. Run don’t walk away from this place.

Older hotel that could use some updates, but for the price you can't beat it. Toilet ran and was very loud, beds have no side support in the 2 queen rooms so not suitable for 2 people in bed. Peeling/ stained wallpaper in bathrooms. Rooms are clean, and basic with no microwave or fridge. One room the keys wouldn't work so the staff had to let us in each time. One room the door didn't latch all the way and could be pushed open and dead bolt didn't work. We had 4 rooms for one night. Cute place. Wish saxby's was open earlier but the 711 was very close. Signage to parking needs to be lit or painted better for nighttime. Easy to miss.

I paid in advance for a night last week through hotels.com and received confirmation but when I arrived the hotel it was closed for construction. There are no ways to get in touch with hotel, no voice mail nor the hotel responded to my email. Hotels.com claimed that the hotel received my payment and did not return my request for refund. This is ridiculous. Knowing your property is not available but accepting my payment. It is a scam.

I stayed two nights when visiting my son at Temple University for a performance. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The location was convenient and right near the Performing Arts Center. I met the general manager and two front-desk staff who were college students. All were friendly and helpful. Some of the rooms were being renovated when I visited. The sound was noticeable from outside the front entrance. I worked during the day inside my room and it was completely quiet. Overall, I enjoyed a very pleasant stay!

The best part of the Conwell Inn is the location. Smack in the center of campus, everything is walking distance. Once we parked our car, we were able to tour the campus and our son was able to get a real sense of the what it would be like to live on campus. The actual room was ok. Definitely needs some upgrades but the location made up for what the room lacked. The purpose of our visit was to see Temple and not relax in the room. I highly recommend it to any high school student looking to tour Temple.

theJeepDAD is right (and beat me to it!). Parking is $15 per night but limited, so let us know as soon as possible if you'd like to reserve a spot! Thanks!

There is one elevator and there are also stairs, if you prefer to walk up. As I mentioned in my review, there are also a few stairs in some of the rooms. Rooms are good size but could use remodeling.
