name of the game is location, and the ballastone is perfectly situated between the historic district downtown and forsyth park. hotel itself lovely - great staff, softest sheets, complimentary coffee and breakfast. even the basement room (the low country) was beautiful.
Staycation for our anniversary and we were over covid! We treated ourselves to a downtown getaway at the Ballastone and had a wonderful time. We loved the bar area and the courtyard area the best. We were impressed by the historic preservation and attention to detail at every turn. The owner even joined us for breakfast and that's how we found out she has a real French chef! She makes beautiful pastries. We will go back - as it's in the heart of walking at night and we finally made it to Plant Riverside and the Moon roof top lounge - spectacular!
This was our first visit to Savannah and we weren’t sure the best area to stay. We couldn’t have picked a better location. The Ballastone was on a beautiful tree lined street with a green belt right in front. The steps up to it were very pretty and inviting. We were greeted right away and shown directly to our garden level room, Sorgum Cane. Although we were at the front of the house, we did not hear a lot of noise from the sidewalk or street. The room was very large and comfortable and very quiet. Our only small concern was not being able to control the temperature individually in our room. The other levels, I understand, were able to control theirs so we might try another room next time. They did provide a fan which helped keep things comfortable. We were in walking distance to most everything. Just around the corner was the 2nd stop on the hop on/off bus. That was a great way to get around. We parked our car and didn’t move it for 2 days. The main area of the home was very elegantly decorated. It was a beautiful, historic home and the staff could not have been any nicer. We will definitely return for another visit. …
My wife and I had a wonderful trip in Savannah and enjoyed our stay at the Ballastone Inn. The Inn has charm, friendly staff and is in a great location. We would recommend to peeps that want an unique Inn experience while visiting the cool city.
We have stayed at the Ballastone Inn once over 25 years ago and once a few weeks ago. It is comfortable, clean and quiet in an amazing location that is easily walkable throughout the historic district and the river area. The decor is over-the-top Victorian, which is part of its charm. It also has a bar where you can sit and enjoy drinks after a long day of sightseeing. The staff, especially Derrick, did everything to make our 5 days in Savannah enjoyable. It was really nice to have the room cleaned everyday, which appears to be the exception during this pandemic. The breakfast was basically continental. We would highly recommend staying here.
