Yes a 4 wheel drive is a must! It is very easy to drive yourself instead of taking a tour. Beautiful drive

We were there in early March this year (2017) and it was -10 to -30 below zero. We rented an SUV with snow tires and did not have any problems driving to the lodge or elsewhere. The roads were clear (no snow drifts). I... More
