What I liked:
* the design of this hotel room was useful and functional compared to other hotel rooms
* The housekeeping did an amazing job - so clean so I tipped them as I tipped an luxurious 5 star hotel even though it's in a 3-star hotel category
* the staff/team was generally polite
* This is a great location with Trader Joe's across the street (the park), a Sweetgreen next door (a healthy deli), and many mom-and-pop restaurants nearby ranging from pizza, burger, Chinese, Taiwanese pearl milk tea shop, Korean, Mediterranee, you name it they have it. Walking distance to downtown Brooklyn, Barclays Center, and NY Transit Museum, with multiple subway stations nearby. If you wish to be in the Brooklyn side of NYC, this can be a good place to stay.

What I disliked:
* they offer snacks/fruits for sale, so if any third party platform says "breakfast included" - it actually means you can pick out anything from its snack section for up to $10 USD. The hotel blames the third party platform, I believe both hotel and the third party platform should work together to better communicate and make it more clear to guests before or during booking as part of effective expectation management.
* the communication was a bit disconnected. The team did not honor what I booked, a king size bed, instead, they tried to give me two double beds.
* The shower temperature turned from hot to warm, likely due to other guests using it also with shared pipe. Sporadic shower temperature.
* Tea bags in the room looked expired outdated, and worn. Likely they had been there for a long time.

Other things to know:
* There is a Sheraton next door, which is also owned by Marriott. Aloft is smaller but also quieter.

I feel comfortable recommending this hotel. If I am in Brooklyn, likely I will stay here again. Of all hotels in NYC area I have stayed, this is one of better ones, if not the best so far.

If it's not because of shower temperature and misplacement of room type, this hotel would have earned a 5 out of 5.

I would give this place four stars as it check off most boxes when going on vacation for a short time. I booked three days and the hotel was very convenient to food, shopping and subways to get into the city to explore! The room was small, clean and the HOUSEKEEPING staff are A+++, very respectful , fast to respond to requests and kind! Tip them, they deserve it.
The front desk allowed me to check in one hour early (thank you! ) and they were nice!
The hotel is in the middle of a “refreshing “ and there is shotty paint work in the rooms but the most important part was the cleanliness and comfort of the bed! There were times where there was a stench of smoke in my room (1904) from the adjoining room from time to time, but the air conditioning helped drown the smell. Oh and the other thing, the AC , only thing you can do is turn it on or off!

If you are not from the NYC area you may be a bit surprised about the size of the hotel room. Like most living areas in Brooklyn, space is at a premium. So in true Brooklyn style it was a small room. However, it fit everything you needed in an efficient manner. It was clean. They provided ear plugs as there was some construction nearby but we did not experience it. I would rate the beds as a B+. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. For a short stay it is fine.

The Aloft hotel is nice for younger people or family's ..The staff was polite kind..but didn't offer to explain anything.. We had to ask for everything..ice machine. No ice machine ask for ice at the desk/ wifi pass word rooms had no microwaves. One is available in the lobby...All the cleaning lady spoke no english making it difficult to ask housekeeping for anything they only understood clean room !? The pool situation was closed in August for private swimming lessons everyday of the week i stayed for 2 wks never seeing any swimmers in the pool which was disappointing for our stay with younger teens and adults.. If coming here in the summer ask about the pool situation before booking here

Dear, evettehamilton77, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at our Aloft Brooklyn property. I appreciate your comments and am sorry to hear about the challenges you encountered during your visit. I’m glad to hear that you found our staff to be polite and kind. However, I regret that you did not receive the level of service and information that you expected. I will ensure that our team provides clearer instructions and better communication regarding amenities such as ice, Wi-Fi, and microwave availability. Regarding the pool situation, I apologize for any inconvenience caused by its closure during your stay. The pool was indeed reserved for private swimming lessons, which may not have been communicated effectively. I will make sure that this information is more clearly stated for future guests to avoid any disappointments. I appreciate your feedback on the language barrier with our housekeeping staff. We will work on improving communication to better serve our guests’ needs. Thank you again for your valuable input. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide a more seamless and enjoyable experience.

The hotel is under renovation, which is understandable and means somewhat lowered expectations for the physical building itself. However, this hotel still managed to disappoint in a way that I can only describe as impressive.

At check-in, I provided my Bonvoy number and asked about the possibility of a room upgrade since it’s part of my elite benefits. I was moved from a high-floor king room on the 21st floor to an ADA accessible king room on the 6th floor — according to reception, this is a bigger room and so constitutes an upgrade, plus the lower floors were “recently renovated” so would be better overall. Good looking out, right?

The joke was fully on me as I got out of the elevator. On the 6th floor, all the baseboards are missing in the hallways, revealing the most disturbingly consistent pattern of peeling paint I’ve ever seen in a hotel outside of the former Soviet Union.

The room itself wasn’t much better. I was greeted by harsh fluorescent lighting, loose floor laminate, a couch that has definitely seen better days (circa 2010), peeling paint on the floor of the shower, a partially missing soap dispenser, and a massive gap in the baseboard near the bathroom that has some unknown combination of dust, dirt, and cursed energy emanating from it.

I might check with the front desk again to see if I can move rooms but frankly, after being lied to about the state of renovations and being duped into the “room upgrade,” I feel like by asking I would just end up “upgraded” to a mop closet or a laundry room. Plus, it’s unclear if the receptionist will ever look up from his phone to acknowledge my existence.

It’s not all bad, though, so this place does warrant more than 1 star! The Jay St-Metrotech subway station is right around the corner so you can easily spend literally as much time as humanly possible away from the property. Downtown Brooklyn is also nice, if you need to escape the Aloft and go somewhere pleasant and clearly suitable for human occupancy there’s plenty of shops and restaurants in the area.

Where do I start... first, check in was at 3. We arrived at about 3:05 and they told us they didn't have a room. We had already paid. So they had us and some other people wait while they "looked for rooms" and then had them cleaned. After about 45 minutes of waiting, they said 10 more minutes. 15 minutes after that, I went up to them to say it had now been an hour. They asked "what's your name again?" and then gave me a room key and told me 805. I go up to 805 and the key doesn't open the door so I start trying other doors and the key opens 806. Then I have to go back down to make sure 806 is in fact my room. This whole time the three young Asian men working at the front desk were extremely standoffish, as if we were annoying them staying at their hotel. We had one small body wash for three people. The next day we went to ask for more body wash and had to wait while the front desk guy talked on his cell phone for a while. He asked when we needed it by and we said... like now? So he gave us another single small body wash. Turns out the "rooftop bar" of the hotel is not affiliated with the hotel in any way, so you have to pay a cover just to get in. Oh, and although there are signs even in the elevator that you should go to the 24th floor to get there, that is not the case. You have to go outside the hotel and a few doors down, which you wouldn't know, because signs tell you otherwise. I have tried to call the front desk 7 times and each time no one answers. This place seriously sucks.

Our toilet was inoperative for our entire 3 night stay... and while they attempted to fix it multiple times, it did not function. When I requested a room change they would not do it. When I requested a refund, they would not do it but gave me the "manager's" e-mail. I have heard nothing since that time. I'd stay somewhere else next time.

We made our online reservation the night before and called to request an early check in - they were able to accommodate. With a warm smile Angelica checked us in with ease. I’ve stayed at the Aloft in Harlem, so familiar with the brand. Surprised it’s under Bonvoy Marriott so I get my points.

Well lit room and one of the most comfortable king beds ever. Linen was crisp and fresh. Housekeeping stopped by on arrival to make sure everything was good. We needed ice (pre packed bags in the lobby) so she had someone come up quickly. Nice size fridge was a great addition.

Coffee/tea station set up was a great way to start the morning. Breakfast items for sale in the lobby. They also has a lobby bar, fitness center and a pool table.

Hotel is in the heart of Brooklyn so there are plenty of places to eat and drink in the area. Subway is one block away.

Yep…we’ll be back.

The hotel logo cannot be seen from street level (because the sign is above the marquee over the front door), and this is only the beginning of a stay that was wholly unacceptable.

When they started the renovation is hard to tell, but they are so far from completing it that the hotel appears to be in complete disrepair. Holes in the walls, carpet, and light fixtures is just the start. Other lamps that do not work and poor lighting in the room just adds to the disappointment.

The in-room tv delivers a whopping 10 channels with many in non-English languages, and the only us news was Fox.

The staff was uninterested in providing a warm welcome, showing any level of interest or concern, and completely failed (twice!) to deliver upon a verbal request for bottled water made at what passes for the front desk.

In a great city like NY with so many fine examples of hospitality, you’ll be better-served staying elsewhere.

The hotel was fine even though the room wasn't the cleanest. The main problem was that one of the two beds in the room had a dirty comforter since the very first day out of four that we stayed there. Even if we told the reception about this after the very first night and being told that they would change it by the next day, this didn't happen. So we told them again and the reception renewed their excuses but said they also couldn't change it at that time of the day (during the evening) so instead the said they would charge us an indicative sum of money in order to excuse themsleves. In the end, they gave us a clean comforter (that we had to change for ourselves!) only the third night after having asked them a third time. Moreover, after 20 days more or less, no sum of money has been charged us on our card even though they said they would. So not the best experience... On the other hand, the position of the hotel was great.
