Charles and Paul are the perfect hosts! The hotel is beautiful overlooking the buffalo river. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The main building is amazing. The food is excellent. A perfect place to stay if you are touring the battlefields in this spectacular country. Make sure your vehicle is able to go on rough dirt roads. Paul is a... More

We stopped here for two nights during our tour of the battlefields. Run by an Englishman, the lodge was simple but beautiful. Situated on the side of the river, it was easy to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Food was simple but tasty and they coped well with our dietary requirements. Don't expect luxury at this lodge, just a great... More

I recently spent a week staying at the Rorkes Drift Hotel, Charles, the owner, and Paul the manager really have got a great combination. The ambiance is amazing, high volume ceilings and thatch wooden floors and a deck overlooking the famous Rorkes Drift itself. Sitting at the bar after a long day hiking around the battlefields and exchanging view points... More

What a lovely surprise. At first sight we were a little concerned and then the owner Charles met us at the door and welcomed us into a personal and warm experience. The hotel is simple which is it's charm. The main building has a sweeping view over the Buffalo River which is the historic heart of the battle fields and... More

Didn't stay but would want to in the future! The scenery is amazing and the staff very accommodating. Definitely recommend to all travellers. Also within spitting distance of the Rorkes Drift site, which is worth a visit! Definite 5 stars for the hotel!

We were the only guests for the two nights we stayed. The main building is sensational and the guest accommodation is comfortable, clean and has, like the main building, sensational views over the Buffalo River. The staff were pleasant, thoughtful and attentive, We visited in early August and the evenings get cold, they moved our table for dinner very close to... More

The RORKE’s DRIFT HOTEL Established in 2011, this facility overlooks the Buffalo river and is very near to the site of the Rorke’s Drift battleground. Easy to find – it can’t be missed as its very evidently the largest building overlooking the Buffalo river just along from the Bridge. The central building and reception is formed as a large enclosing... More

We spent two nights here in order to see the battlefields of Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana. The owner Charles, is a consumate gentleman, ex-army, and is a most gracious host. He is very enthusiastic about the area's history and can answer nearly all questions you may have. The room rate include breakfast and dinner. Lunch is offered at a very... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At Rorke's Drift on the Buffalo River the new Rorke’s Drift Hotel stands the slopes of Shiyane Mountain (The Oscarberg), in the rolling hills of Zululand. The historic crossing that gives the area its name is within its grounds and the comfortable modern facilities are priced to meet the needs of the discerning traveller. The visitor will enjoy peaceful relaxation in the rural landscape, surrounded by iconic history and natural countryside. Phase One of the construction is now complete with 7 double and four single en-suite rooms. Phase Two will raise the capacity to 30 rooms so that coach touring parties can be accommodated, for the recommended two night stay. The hotel provides an affordable destination at this historic location. Visitors will be stunned by its position overlooking the Buffalo River and with its open views towards Isandlwana, and by its architectural design that is a modern amalgam of Zulu and Victorian cultures. ... more   less
