Just stayed here and everything was great. Comfy room and yummy breakfast. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. The house is very elegant! Independence is a wonderful place to explore with so much history particularly of Harry Truman.

We booked this at the last minute on our way to my Class Reunion. I am telling all my friends and family about it. This is a very nice B&B and the breakfast was awesome. We are still talking about the maple syrup infused skillet potatoes. We loved our room and the grounds. It is so close to a lot...

Thank you for spreading the word! So glad you enjoyed our breakfasts and the maple syrup on the breakfast potatoes!! You are absolutely right, Hawthorn is so close to just about everything: downtown KC is only 10-12 minutes and the major sports stadiums less than 10 minutes away. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We were only in for one night for the Kenny Chesney/Jason Aldean concert. Jim and Wendy greeted us and made us feel at home. The room was very nice and the whole place was beautifully restored. The next morning, a huge, delicious breakfast was served. We highly recommend this B&B.

My fiancé and I planned to visit Kansas City for the weekend and of course waited until the night before we left to book a hotel. Everything was booked full because the Royals were playing in town so we found Hawthorne and went to their website to make a reservation. We figure for $150 and what was sure to be...

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful bed and breakfast this past weekend. It was the first time we had ever stayed at a B&B and we were not sure what to expect. In short, it was amazing. The house itself was built in 1900 and looks every bit a historic B&B. The decor was amazing. It had a...

We appreciate you taking the time to comment in such detail on your stay. Thank you. It is always wonderful to hear when guests notice the beauty of the mansion and the special things that make a stay at Hawthorn so comfortable and enjoyable. Having lived in Sioux Falls, we enjoyed sharing fond stories of life in the Dakotas.

Jim and Wendy know how to do the B&B thing right. The grounds, house, decor, and food are just perfect. They were friendly and available, without being intrusive. There was plenty of info about local activities. There are lots of things to do and see within half an hour drive. We will buy gift visits for our married children to...

The external beauty is what lured me in, with interior pictures that were a bit deceiving (pretty outdated and NOT because they were trying to preserve the historical setting!) When I made initial contact with the inn, I told them this was a special trip as my best friend and I were celebrating 45 years of friendship, as well as...

We are pleased you like the exterior beauty which we feel is only surpassed by the beauty inside. Our pictures are hardly deceiving as we have been told countless times that our pictures,...

My wife & I stayed for two nights at Hawthorn while in town for minor pro hockey games. The grounds are expansive with large trees and flowering plants. The 1900s home is well maintained outside & in, with inviting common areas on the entry floor & comfortable private guest rooms upstairs. Jim prepared delicious breakfasts each morning, while his wife...

Unique in style, comfort and food. I stayed here while doing research at the Truman Library. It is centrally located to great historic sites in Independence. Jim exceeds the normal B&B cook for a breakfast. Great muffins and pancakes! For a B&b it is an excellent value. Excellent place for outdoor events. Hosts were very welcoming.
