A gorgeous property well located close to town, but still feels like a retreat. The hotel offers great service and equally good quality. A B&B in England could hardly do better, and certainly one of Nuwara Eliya's best.

Arrived to an amazing Sri Lankan rice and curry lunch complementing an awesome black-pork curry and coconut sambol. The pre and post lunch chilled crispy Larger was an absolute refreshment arriving from a blistering Colombo weather. After a mini-snooze in a cozy bed, we walk-out to freshly brewed 'BOPF' Ceylon Tea served in the garden with a platter of the...

This hotel, which in fact only has four rooms, is situated in a very charming house, which feels like a home. The rooms are large and well equipped and a nice breakfast is served. The manager, Wilson, is very friendly and service minded.

If you are looking for a quite and relaxing time while visiting Nuwara Eliya, Ferncliff is the ideal place. This beautiful house from the colonial era has been well maintained, keeping its original character while providing modern feature comforts in every room. Take a slow stroll around the beautiful flower garden or the organic vegetable and herb garden. Enjoy high...

We spent 3 fabulous days at Ferncliff. From the time you walk till you leave this wonderful place, you are made to feel special. We loved the welcome drink which was decadent mug of hot chocolate. There onwards it just got better - meals were very good. Was even more plausible as most of the veg and herbs were from...

We were charged for more than CAD 200/night. This place should worth only half of the rate that they charged. Their rooms with old carpet have unpleasant odour of humidity. We stayed there for 3 nights and they never came to clean up the room. Their breakfast included is the worst that we had during our 3 weeks in Sri...

Hello, Thank you for your review. We take negative feedback extremely seriously. Breakfast: We have fruit and vegetable on site, in our gardens. Available in abundance. You're able to pick your own salad, or put together the ingredients for your vegetable lasagna. Perhaps there was an issue in communication. The English breakfast with bacon, sausages, hash browns, butter, toast, waffles...

3 couples spent a night here on our trip to the tea country. We were so impressed with the property, gardens, rooms and staff. It is an original colonial governor,s home with period antiques. The rooms and the beds were just fabulous with updated bathrooms. There are only 4 rooms and it was so cozy. It was rainy and cool...

While on the pricey side, it was totally worth it. Beautiful bungalow nestled in the hills, but still close to the city center. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed not having to venture out for dinner. Dinesh's chicken vegetable soup was delicious! Sumptuous English breakfast. We stayed in the Amelia room, which has a view of their sprawling lawn and...

Let's put it clearly: This was the most expensive (180 USD!!! per Night) hotel on our 2 week journey through Sri Lanka, but was also the worst overall package. What you will get for your money is an old British colonial style house and 3 friendly employees. If that is all you need and you are willing to pay a...

Hello, Thank you for the review. We always learn from feedback that is constructive. We have quite a generous breakfast on offer, which includes Sri Lankan options, fresh salads and fruit too, if a fully dry up English Breakfast is not your thing. We're sorry that overall Nuwara Eliya was such a disappointment. Best wishes, Hans

We felt that we came home when we arrived this small, charming hotel. The rooms were spacios, the garden was beautiful and the staff was very friendly. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ferncliff perched on one of the highest points of Nuwara Eliya commands a view like no other of 'Little England'. This includes being set against the magnificent backdrop of Mount Pedro (Pidurutalagala), which at 2524 m (8,281 ft) is Sri Lanka's highest point. Just ten minutes walk from the Grand Hotel and the Golf Club, Ferncliff is uniquely placed to be the centre of your Nuwara Eliya universe which includes Horton Plains National Park, Tea Plantations and other locations of interest in the hill country. Deeds for the Ferncliff lands predate the founding of the first Nuwara Eliya settlement by Great White Hunter and Explorer, Sir Samuel Baker in 1846. The bungalow, now a heritage site, had its beginnings in the 1850s and the ghosts of Samuel Baker and his ilk still walk our expansive lawns hunting elephants, deer and wild boar to near extinction in the lush Nuwara Eliya valley. Today, with restorations that have retained its rustic charm, Ferncliff offers comforts that few bungalows in town can aspire to, and our team led by our chef with over 30 years of experience in the hotel trade, will ensure that your time with us will be comfortable and relaxed. Rest assured that although Ferncliff is centrally located, once inside her gates the hustle and bustle of the town is forgotten. Enjoy a game of croquet, a round of boules, or just wander around our extensive grounds which include a young rose garden and very soon, orange and pear orchards. Look no further for what promises to be a truly authentic Nuwara Eliya experience. Kindly note that, accommodation for drivers and guides are not available in the premises. ... more   less
