We have had the good fortune to visit wonderful hotels all over the world and we choose to return to Soniat House year after year. I appreciate the staff addressing me by my name instead of being a number at a larger hotel. I love having my coffee and biscuits served on a silver tray instead of making my own...

the soniat house is a charming small hotel on Chartres street in the French quarter. we had two grand suite rooms and they are spacious and very clean. the hotel is well situated on a quiet street. suite 28 has a large Chartres street facing balcony and #60 has a smaller balcony. suite 28 is kind of dark but there...

Thank you for your kind review. Quite honestly we have had a few ( but just a few ) complaints in over 30 years about plumbing sounds only from quests in that magnificent suite. We are constantly searching for the solution. We have had the complaint when room #29 was not occupied so the problem is more complicated than it...

The Soniat House actually comprises several historic buildings on two sides of Chartres Street, adjacent to the old Ursuline Convent. They have been meticulously restored and seamlessly combined to create an elegant and stylish oasis that is unpretentious and welcoming, with much of its appeal lying in its deceptive simplicity. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the...

Why is it that the guests who travel the farthest always write the most favorable reviews? We would love to add you to the nearly 30% of our guests who return regularly. Thank you very much for taking the time to write and do come back.

Stayed at Soniat House for one night on a work trip. It is not a good place to stay for business but could be nice for a vacation if you want to splurge on your hotel. The staff seemed very considerate and accommodating but everything is a bit stiff and slow. The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting...

The Front Door is always locked to protect the privacy of the guests and the tranquility of the hotel. Believe me - if we leave it open for even 5 minutes we have total strangers wandering about and even taking photographs. Having been included in "1000 Places to see before you die" is quite an honor but it has added...

We have mixed feeling about the Soniat. This was our first stay, although we have been frequent visitors to New Orleans. This was a splurge. We had a junior suite at $450 a night. It was just rehabbed and was modern and sharp. After a couple nights, due to an inconsequential problem, they upgraded us at no charge to a...

Our dream is that all of the visitors to the Soniat House feel that they are guests in a private home and not in a hotel. We have attempted to furnish our rooms and suites as we would guest rooms in our home. Most of our reviewers understand and feel that we have succeeded. When we opened in 1984 we...

We have just returned from five of the most majestic nights in one of the Soniat suites. The stay was quite the most unique experience of any hotel in which we have stayed. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The room was quiet yet the hotel is well placed with only a short walk to Bourbon...

I am so sorry that Scotland is so far away from New Orleans so that we probably won't have too many opportunities to welcome you back to Soniat House. Please try to drop down for a visit whenever you visit the USA. Thank you for your kind words.

The Soniat in Chartres Street is everyone's dream of the ideal New Orleans French Quarter hotel. Away from the hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street, it is an oasis of charm, tranquility and Southern hospitality. Beautiful rooms, delicious breakfast in the courtyard, and exceptional assistance from all the staff, especially Paul, Edina and Erwin in Reception, who couldn't have done...

The truth about the Soniat House? I do not want to share it! Maybe with my husband sometimes or a friend I will visit the Soniat House. Renting out the whole hotel with all your closest friends would be wonderful! But mostly, I like to visit alone. It is totally healing, an indescribable comfort for me. It is a time...

Quite simply, my first stay at the Soniat House was like a dream. If you've ever fantasized about living in an historic townhouse in the Quarter, this is the place! It far exceeded my expectations. My room was beautiful, exquisitely tastefully decorated and so soothing and restful that I hated to leave. On top of that, the level of respectful,...

I returned to the Soniat recently. I hadn't been there in months. Over the past two decades I've stayed there at least 25 times, probably more. It's always been like staying with friends -- friends with spectacularly good taste. The staff, as ever, was impeccable, the essence of Southern hospitality. A pleasant surprise this time -- the rooms have been...

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
