Originally being from the Midwest, I have had very little experience with the New Orleans area. However, after speaking with the Degas house staff, we were pointed in the direction of many unique New Orleans attractions, many of which were walking distance from the house. The house itself is very ornate, with prints of the impressionist Edward Degas (for whom... More

Thank you for the kind review! We're so glad you had a good time here at our home. The Edgar Degas Foundation tries to keep the house as traditional as possible. One of the projects we're currently working on is adding shutters on both houses. Please come visit us again soon and thank you again! More

The Degas House has beautiful rooms and courtyards with excellent service. Our every need was taken care of by the staff whether it was asking questions or handling the checking in/out process. Each morning we were treated to a breakfast that only heightened our taste for the local cuisine. The location is wonderful and is extremely close to the French... More

The Degas House is a great New Orleans B&B destination. A former home of French Impressionist painter, Edgar Degas, The Degas House has been maintained in excellent condition and is maintained in a delightful antique motif. The rooms are elegantly decorated and the staff is warm and welcoming. The house's location on Esplanade Ave in Mid-City makes it a great... More

I traveled to the Degas House in November 2010 to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We stayed in the Estelle Suite, which was a lovely room. Unfortunately, there was no soap, shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom, and we had to ask the staff multiple times to bring an iron and ironing board to the room. We were also awoken each... More

First off, thank you TripAdvisor for granting property owners the opportunity to voice their opinions on guest reviews that they consider misleading, fictitious, or unwarranted. For this particular review, I was saddened and confused as I read this guest’s exaggerated and outlandish account of her Degas House experience. For one, I was shocked when I discovered that one of her... More

This B&B was the home of Edgar Degas [late 19th cent. Impressionist painter/sculptor] for 4 months early in his career in 1872 when he visited his brother and cousins. Staying in Treme

Neighbourhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.

“We avoided the garret rooms because of warnings about the AC. Might have been OK at another time of the year, but not in June.”

“The rooms on the 3rd floor were in bad shape The beds are all old. Cock roaches every where even in the freezer & the fridge!!! This place needs just more renovations & for the price that we paid , it was way way too much ! I would not recommend it at all. Being old & historical is right but mean while can be clean & worthy of stay!!”

“Wish there was, but as far as I could tell, there were no "good" rooms. We booked a pricey suite but left before spending a single night!”
  • Main light switch as you enter the room, missing paint and paint cracked
  • More bad paint.
  • This is from inside the bathroom looking out to the second bedroom. The trim was disgusting!
  • Bathroom sink pulling off the wall, mold. Gross.
