We truly enjoyed our 5 night stay at La Belle Esplanade. Out first visit was over 7 years before when we stayed at a more conventional hotel and ticked off many of the traditional NOLA tourist things. The B&B is very unique in a beautiful up and coming part of NOLA. The rooms are spacious with one of a kind...

We moved to New Orleans 7 years ago, five years after Hurricane Katrina and the federal levee failures flooded 80% of this amazing city. We've seen so many changes in that time, changes for the better as New Orleans rebuilds itself for the better, keeping the best parts of its vibrant culture while replacing some of its broken down infrastructure...

Mr. King & Melanie have ruined us for all other B &B's, because they are far more than that! What they offer is an experience as opposed to just a room. They set a high bar with their amazing service, excellent breakfast choices every morning, and just overall knowledge and welcoming spirit! They are amazing hosts!

I dislike calling La Belle Esplanade a B&B because, while we do offer beds and breakfasts as part of the package, we try to offer a whole lot more than a place to sleep with a stomach-filling breakfast. Some people tell me that the check-in introduction to our inn and to our neighborhood is like Willie Wonka showing them around...

Matthew and Melanie made our trip a great one! We've stayed in B&Bs across the country and in Europe, and this is one of the best. What really set it apart for us were the recommendations! There were quite a few things we would have never tried if it weren't for Matthew's advice - Parkway Tavern for po boys, Liuzza's...

It is as much a pleasure to hear from you as it was to have you both stay with us. Good memories are made on our street. You've added to our storehouse of good memories as much as we hope we've added to yours. New Orleans really is like nowhere else. Yeah, St. Patrick's night was out of character for...

If you want a unique trip with reccommendations tailored to making you feel at home then you must stay here! Conveniently located with quick access to the bus/streetcar line. Local restaurants and bars blocks away to enjoy local music but also close enough to the tourist hot spots!

You have to admit it: staying with us is different from staying in somebody's house. Staying with us is like staying in a small boutique hotel---one that's run by two people, and that's what gives you the intimacy and the hands-on personalized recommendations we make every morning. As we discussed, Melanie and I are looking forward to seeing one of...

We had a great time in New Orleans and enjoyed staying at Le Belle Esplanade. It was our first experience with a bed and breakfast and we will definitely do it again. The social breakfast was a great way to learn about the city and fill our bellies with good food at the same time. We enjoyed the private balcony...

That's a nice picture you took of the inn. Yep, that's the place! Thanks for choosing to stay with us. I don't think I realized this was your first time at a B&B, no two of which are alike. It's the ultimate small business. We model our operation on boutique historic hotels, if such hotels were run by only two...

My husband and I were fortunate to stay at La Belle Esplanade during Mardi Gras. This was our second visit and just as enjoyable as our first. We stayed in the La France suite this time, the first time was Clio. Both rooms are gorgeous and we loved them for different reasons. Matthew and Melanie are as wonderful as the...

Mardi Gras is different from Jazz Fest. Now that you've gotten a taste of the most important event in the New Orleans calendar, you know that your hearts still belong to Jazz Fest. There is nothing wrong with that. Be your authentic self in New Orleans. You've been to New Orleans many times and you've stayed at many places. Thank...

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Matthew and Melanie are marvelous hosts and are delightful to talk to.. Our suite was comprised of a sitting room, bedroom, bath and small balcony over-looking Esplanade Ave. The sitting room has a small flat-screen TV (Don't know about the channels since we never...

We just have basic cable for the TV. Nobody really watches it and, really, if they did, that would just make me sad. Who comes all the way to New Orleans to sit in their room and watch TV? Thanks for not being that guy. Five nights is a nice amount of time to spend in New Orleans. Even if...

Once I was invited to the lobby for check-in, I felt like I was in a movie set. Both public area and private rooms are neatly decorated and greatly maintained. Every single space/room has unique decoration and character coming from owner’s inspiration and knowledge about this historical heritage. Upon check-in, the owner, Melanie gave me an excellent orientation and tour...

Since I'm here every day, I take our surroundings for granted but a lot of people do say that staying at our inn is like spending time in a movie---and I don't mean a horror film, I mean the good kind, like La-La Land. As for the museum, the lobby is a bona fide museum of sorts. The New Orleans...

My husband and I spent five nights at La Belle Esplanade with much pleasure, comfort, delight and amusement. From our first view of the colorful B&B and warm welcome from Matt ( with fedora and cigar on the front steps) we knew we were in a place of New Orleans charm and hospitality. Our suite was spacious, color filled and...

Happy Mardi Gras! It's Mardi Gras Day as I write this, the most magical day on the New Orleans calendar, but every day in New Orleans is a wonderful day. Thanks for contributing our 425th review. My husband and I came to New Orleans for our 15th wedding anniversary and stayed at this gorgeous "boutique inn" ;) From the beginning to the end, Matthew and Melanie created the most inviting and comfortable stay for us. Seven nights in New Orleans makes one weak. I've been waiting to use that pun. Thanks for referring to us a "boutique experience inn." I dislike calling La Belle a bed and breakfast because the inn is not a fusty collection of antiques and rules. I don't like to say B&B anymore because then we get confused with AirBnB, and...

Staying in Treme

Neighbourhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.
