We loved the courtyard and the sound of the water bath. Ear plugs were provided in case anyone got too crazy outside, but that didn't happen during our stay. The rooms were clean and spacious, the bed was comfy... we were able to relax each night after our French Quarter adventures. :) We were there on our wedding anniversary trip....

Not only the location makes Lamothe perfect, the friendly atmosphere and ability to interact with other guests makes it so much a better experience than a big chain hotel where finding your room can be quite the challenge!!!

This is real old school NOLA with modern updates - like an old European hotel, exactly. Tons of character and ideally located to the authentic jazz center of the city. Walking distance. Yet on the periphery of the French Quarter, so quiet..

We had room 405 in the back building. Nice, clean, big room with 2 queen beds. The beds were comfortable and the room questions but we could here our neighbor because it could be a shared space. The door between these two rooms did not close all the and needed another lock at the top (it was a double door)....

No words can describe my ultimate pleasure this place gave me! It was beautiful and so delightful. Wanted to stay more nights but they were already booked. I would highly recommend staying here. Besides the obvious, comfortable beds, clean, and quite. It was a Ultimate treat to myself. Can't wait to revisit New Orleans and stay here again!

The hotel is located right in the heart of things, great access to Bourbon or Frenchmans Streets. We got room 116 whose entrance is directly to the street, very convienient but a bit noisy with the all night revelers on the street. The hotel did supply earplugs, but by the time we got in, they weren't needed. The photo is...

This is a charming property spread over two streets. There is a pool and spa. The location is adjacent to Frenchmen Street so good music is easy to find. The rooms are spacious and mostly quiet although sometimes the upstairs guests can sound like they are 1 ton elephants.

I always try to stay at "reputable" hotel when traveling, but this time I was talked into staying at a Bed & Breakfast. I have been to New Orleans several times, so I was willing to try. I must admit, I was a little skeptical as I got to the Lamothe House, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was upgraded...

We are regular visitors to New Orleans and spend most of our time near Frenchmen and in the Marigny area. We have stayed at The Lamothe House several times over the past 17 years, it's perfect for where we like to be.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. We have stayed here a few times and the new owners are continuing to improve and repair the property, which was in desperate need up upgrades. Unfortunately wear and tear by the guests is starting to show and not being kept up. Bathrooms especially need work to repair damage done by previous guests....

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in the ancient oaks of Esplanade Avenue, the ornate architectural detail of the past meets modern comfort and convenience in our restoration of the historic Lamothe House hotel. Featuring an elaborate courtyard accented by mature landscaping, a garden pond, and a refreshing pool, peace and relaxation are just steps away from the thrill the Crescent City has to offer. In addition to 30 guest rooms refinished in traditional style, five Grand Antique Suites have been preserved from the original 1839 construction of the home of Jean Lamothe, a wealthy sugar cane planter of French descent. Furnished with antique furniture & artwork, the detail and charm that exemplifies old New Orleans is accessible to today’s traveler. Not to be overlooked is the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood the Lamothe House calls home. Here visitors will find Frenchmen Street, often referred to as “the local’s Bourbon Street”, which features some of the best local music and cuisine found in the French Quarter.Whether it’s your first or your next visit to the Big Easy, find the authentic New Orleans experience you are searching for at the Lamothe House. ... more   less
