The Hotel Provincial is a small boutique hotel located in the heart of the French Quarter. It has been owned and operated by the Dupepe family since its’ opening in July 1961. In 1959, Vernon and Eunice Dupepe bought the site of the French Market Ice House which had been destroyed in a fire. On that site, the original part of the hotel was built/restored and consisted of 44 rooms. Within a few years, under the stewardship of the 2nd generation, the family began acquiring several historic buildings surrounding the parking lot. Those buildings were restored and converted to hotels rooms. The 500 building was the last building to open in 1972, bringing the hotel’s total rooms and suites to 97. We now have 92 rooms and suites due to some rooms being converted to other uses such as function space and the Ice House Bar. All of our rooms are decorated with antiques or authentic reproductions. The Hotel Provincial is currently operated by the third generation of the Dupepe family.

This family run hotel is beautiful, perfectly located, and incredibly kind. We got stranded after Hurricane Ida and they let us stay until we could get out of the city while other hotels were shutting down, letting us use their cell phones while ours were dead. We are so very grateful to them and their staff and will stay here every time we come to New Orleans. James at the Ice Bar is so friendly, full of great local tips. We only made it to the French Toast restaurant one, but the chicken and waffles are off the chain. Thank you, Hotel Provincial, we can’t wait to see you again for the vacation we had actually intended.

Room Tip: Avoid getting stuck in a hurricane. The hotel was physically safe, but the aftermath was a disaster.

We stayed during Hurricane Ida. The staff was so nice and helpful during a very difficult time of power outages, etc. Before Ida hit, we had a blast in New Orleans and the location was perfect. I love the charm of this hotel. I highly recommend it.

Stayed here for a few days before hurricane hit had to extend stay due to flight cancellations. At 8:30pm EST was notified by hotel that we had to leave due to staff shortage. Still tropical storm conditions, no flights, rental cars or hotels available! We are literally out on the streets and scared. I’ve worked in the industry and during storms, blizzards, etc… you’re supposed to have your staff stay in the premises! I’m beyond angry, tired and scared!

This is the perfect hotel for a quaint and quiet getaway to New Orleans. Only a block away from the French Market. Loved French Toast restaurant inside the courtyard and the Ice House bar in the lobby. And the room was fantastic with a chandelier, brick wall and antique pictures. Felt like old New Orleans charm. Will definitely be back!
