The Westin New Orleans garners praise for its prime location with easy access to attractions and its lively atmosphere, including live music and river views. Guests appreciate the clean, comfortable rooms and commend the friendly staff for their attentive service.
However, some travelers suggest the hotel's amenities, including the fitness center, require better maintenance and readiness. While the hotel's cleanliness and service generally receive positive remarks, a few guests question the value for money, pointing to mandatory fees and limited amenities.

I researched hotels in NOLA for weeks and decided on The Westin because of my great experience in St. John USVI and other Marriott Bonvoy properties.
The Westin’s location is in walking distance of Canal Street, French Quarter, Jackson Square, the French market, and the riverfront. It shares a building with a designer mall.
The hotel’s common areas are sophisticated and clean. There’s complementary water infused with fresh fruit. The bar/lounge area overlooks the river with oversized windows; the food is good; and there’s live music. However, the restaurant menu was limited, too experimental, and pricey. The breakfast was underwhelming.
On the second night I spotted a tiny bug in the bathroom of my room. I spoke with the front desk staff and eventually met the manager, Ms. Amanda Winchester. She listened, asked me questions, and placed me in another room—an upgrade—with the same gorgeous view of my previous room. This bathroom had no shower curtain but glass sliding door (updated). Moreover, Ms. Winchester provided me (& my guest ) a few other complementary items. (This was a good thing—because I was going to leave for another hotel). For me, a hotel’s cleanliness is the largest factor when I select where to stay. I’ll pay more, even. But really, I didn’t want to leave because I was somewhat settled and satisfied at The Westin.

My husband & I celebrated his fiftieth birthday with a trip to New Orleans, staying at The Westin. The hotel made our stay memorable, the staff were all so kind & helpful. Before our visit, my sister called the front desk to arrange that champagne be sent to our room. The staff member then arranged a room upgrade to a 27th floor junior suite with a view of the river and the French Quarter, which was just so amazing! It really gave us the full picture of the geography of the Quarter and the river. We also sat down with the concierge Daisy, who was incredible! She really took time to listen to our interests & make thoughtful suggestions. Her recommendations on restaurants and music venues were perfectly tailored to what we wanted. She also helped in keeping our schedule realistic, as sometimes we try to pack too many things in. And then she sent wine & chocolates to our room! They really did go over the top! The facility itself is great, positioned at the corner of the French Quarter with great views. The lobby is floor eleven with rooms above. Street level is a multi level mall which some may enjoy. The Observation Lounge on the 11th floor, essentially the lobby bar, has live music. No cons, just be aware there is a daily "resort fee" which I think is $30 - you can purchase things with that like food & beverage in the hotel amongst other things. But you must use that $30 daily. I will be staying at The Westin for my next trip to New Orleans for sure!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
Front desk - could do a better job at being pleasant and more customer service oriented.
Room - modern and comfy.
Housekeeping - I reported immediately after checking in that the bathroom seem to have been used lightly. However, I didn’t make a big deal of it, and decided to remain in the same room. At the time of checkout, I did have late check out, and that wasn’t communicated to the housekeeping team. I would not blame them for walking into my room twice when I was still in there.
Restaurant - Jimky was phenomenal! Everything here was good. I wish the buffet food had some rotations with menu. It was too consistent for my 5 day stay.

We are just 24 hours into a three night stay and since management doesn’t seem to care how their hotel is run, I feel compelled to share with others and caution them to stay somewhere else. For context, we are longtime Marriott Bonvoy members and usually have good experiences at their properties but the Westin New Orleans is falling far short.
Our bad experience started after arriving after the scheduled check-in time of 3 PM - after a long travel day with kids - and were told the room wasn’t ready and TBD for when it would be. We heard others being told the same thing so clearly they didn’t have sufficient staff to get rooms ready for when arriving customers were paying to check in by. Our room was ultimately not ready until almost 5 PM and it was only after complaining that they offered us a small food/drink voucher. When hotels expect you to leave by a certain checkout time though it’s completely unacceptable to not have rooms ready until well after the check in time.
Then after getting back to the hotel to get our bags and pick up our keys, the front desk person claimed he couldn’t find our reservation despite us having already checked in five hours prior. So he asked us to pull up our reservation number on our phone and after a long delay finally found it saying the hotel computer system had been on “the fritz.”
Btw we later tried to order room service for our kids only to discover their online ordering website wasn’t working either. Apparently that was on the fritz too.
After finally getting into our room we discovered they only provided two towels (for two adults and two kids) and the shampoo dispensers in the shower was completely empty. So clearly the extra time it took to get the room ready didn’t translate to getting the little things right. This lack of attentiveness carried over to the fitness center too where the water dispenser was out of service - so no one working out had access to water - and there wasn’t a single staff member in sight in the morning hour when the facility is most used. This next day we were out of the room the whole day only to return at 3:30 PM to discover the room had never been made up. We called the front desk but they had no explanation.
Bottom line just a lot of little things that add up to a bad experience and suggest a management team that doesn’t have enough trained staff for a busy week. Oh and I’d mention the hotel is literally next to a train track which I realize they can’t control but the train blaring right outside our window at 4 AM made us rethink having paid extra for a “river view” room.
This was all in the first 24 hours too so will see what the next few days hold.
Bottom line we’ve been to New Orleans many times and have had good experiences at other hotels. This was our first time at the Westin though and we won’t be back.

We stayed two nights over Mardi Gras - hotel was full but everyone was cheerful and helpful. A few negatives - the bed was made poorly - basically short sheeted and had no fitted sheet. We opted to not get housekeeping since we were only staying 2 nights. Unfortunately we did not realized how bad the bed was until retiring the 2nd night and saw all of sheet had pulled up from mattress and worse yet - NO MATTRESS PAD or cover or encasement! YUCK The other negative is we were charged $70 to valet our vehicle - as an oversized vehicle - it fits in every normal space we have ever parked in. And the parking garage must not be secured as we had literature on our car when returned to us. Next time we'll park elsewhere (across the street!)
The Good and Great! There was a lot - as Titanium we received breakfast vouchers for the restaurant - IMO this is much better than having a club in this situation when we will not be around much of the day anyhow - get a good meal at a sit down. The Breakfast was the buffet and came out to be $80 for both of us - the voucher includes tip too! I only wish they would have changed up some of the offerings on the buffet -change the meat and potatoes - it was fine for 2 days - but i would have been sick of after day 3 or more! The lobby bar on the 11th floor has great views of the Mississippi and FQ - this hotel is just in one of the best locations to me. At the end of Canal and between Warehouse/art District and French Quarter! WE loved the view from our upgraded king room on the 23rd floor. The $30 destination resort fee is not hard to swallow given you get $30 a day to spend on food / beverage, free yoga and free tours (we did the walking history tour in FQ and it was well worth it - for free!) they also give you a free trolley pass each day for everyone in the room! During MG i saw a nice coffee set up in the lobby - not sure they always do this and one morning they even put out King Cake! Very nice gesture for those not getting free breakfast.

What a terrible hotel. Nothing works. Charge me $30 a day to force me to get room service and then refuse to answer phone or take order. Online ordering system as a POS issue. No body wash in room. TV streaming doesn't work. Terrible experience every day. Will never stay here again.

Rarely do I write a hotel review while still staying at said hotel but my experience at the Westin New Orleans has been outstanding thus far! We traveled to New Orleans to kick start anniversary celebrations, and to catch up with family during the start of Uptown Mardi Gras parade season. We had an extraordinarily long travel day due to flight delays and arrived at the hotel at midnight. Kaushik at the front desk was hospitable, gracious, and welcoming. He noted our special occasion, and gave us a room upgrade to an outstanding 25th floor corner room overlooking the French Quarter and the Mississippi River. Roxie, the concierge left a sweet handwritten note along with a bottle of chilled sparkling wine to commemorate our special occasion. The room is very well proportioned, and set in soothing hues of greys and forest green. The bathroom is very spacious, and has a wonderful rain shower. Another nice in-room touch is a card showing where all the USB ports are located, including convenient multi-port accesses at both bedside tables. The hotel is accessed from the 11th floor lobby, with separate guest elevators for room access using the keycard. The entire experience is upscale and refined. The Westin is located at the riverside end of Canal St., above the high end One Canal Place shopping center (Tiffany and Louis Vuitton are just some of the stores housed here). The French Quarter is an easy walk and the Canal Street streetcar is right in front of the hotel. This weekend is an exceptionally cold one, so cautionary note, the main elevator leading to and from the 11th floor is a veritable wind tunnel, so bundle up! Otherwise, outstanding stay at the Westin New Orleans thus far!

Jalen is the man! Thank you so much for making the experience so memorable. It really felt like a home away from home during my business trip. He gaves tips on everything and helped me order the a secret menu item, the chicken pasta and replace it with salmon which is a delight! Can’t wait to try it again. I also have to give a shoutout to Clarance who welcomed me on the business trip, something I witness for the first time being in hotels 50+ nights a year. The fruits at breakfast were perfect and the omelet station personel is upbeat and makes great food. The gym has a peloton bike which always make me very happy.

If you book through a 3rd party such as Priceline or Hotwire you will be given a bad room. I arrived around 8pm and asked for a room with no connecting door. I went to the room and there IS a connecting door but they were generous to have ear plugs on the night stand. LOL...i said "nope" and asked for another. Fast forward 6 more rooms, finally I got a room with no connecting door. The "destination fee" is a joke at $30 a night and covers basically nothing. The final room we were given was a handicapped room. I only saved about $20/night, it's sad to know Westin feels they need to treat their 3rd party vendor customers in this way. I knew I was getting the Westin when i put my credit card number in, due to the reviews and location of the hotel. To think, I was really excited to get there. The staff I encountered were friendly and the hotel was a short walk to tourist places. I never want to stay here again.

As usual the Westin lived up to expectations. We really liked the location - you could walk to Bouron St. and the heart of the French Quarter in less than 10 minutes but you are far enough from the craziness that it is quiet and clean. The room was clean and extremely comfortable bed. The bathroom did not have a fan which would have been nice. The lobby is nice - live music at night. You do have to go up to the 11th floor for the lobby / check in, then change elevators to get to the rooms. Not a big deal but just FYI.

I felt fine making that walk with my mother. I only would not walk down Canal street - we had some really unpleasant experiences along that stretch and ended up avoiding it as much as we could.
