My wife and I stayed in one of the 2nd floor suites with a balcony right on Bourbon Street for 3 nights in November 2014. While it was great to stand on the balcony and absorb the energy and vibe of Bourbon Street at the beginning of the evening, the noise from Bourbon Street bars and revellers makes sleeping absolutely... Thank you for choosing to stay at our hotel and for your comments on the street-side rooms. We are very sorry that your rest was disturbed by some outside noise. Please know that housekeeping and the front desk offers complimentary earplugs. You are correct that our interior rooms are quieter, but for your next stay you may like a room... More

Like all the best hotels in the french quarter, The Royal Sonesta is old and elegant. Location is perfect. Everything is exactly as you would expect for the price. One of the larger and more popular of the hotels in the area. Pool area is nicer than some of the other hotels in the French Quarter too. Can't go wrong... More

This is an older hotel but very beautiful and unique. Some of the rooms overlook the bars and can be quite noisy. There are others on the quieter side that have balconies that overlook the streets of New Orleans and the courtyard. My room had a balcony view of the side streets and neighboring hotels and was perfect. In close... More

My travel buddies and I (there were 10 of us all together) planned a trip to New Orleans this year. My travel agent recommended this hotel as one of her two favorites in New Orleans. We were totally satisfied with the accommodations. The hotel is right on Bourbon Street so we were in the heart of town but it is... More

We have stayed at the Royal Sonesta twice and have not been disappointed. If you like jazz, this is the place for you. Irvin Mayfield owns a bar/restaurant right smack inside the Royal Sonesta and he is one of the best jazz musicians I've ever heard. There is a small cover charge for his performances but worth every penny. If... More

Close to the action and the history. Ask for a courtyard room if you want a good nights sleep. You can exit a side door of the lobby to miss all of the craziness of Bourbon Street and head to Royal for a nice walk & shopping. The street musicians are wonderful!

This isn't the very highest end hotel in the French Quarter, but it's certainly close and most certainly is on Bourbon Street. This is a repeat visit back to the Royal Sonesta in the heart of the French Quarter and as usual it was another quality stay. There are no negatives but you should be aware of some remodeling that is taking place. Their raw bar, Desire, is closed for renovation and apparently one of their main lobby elevators is being updated.... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
