What a view! Enjoyed our stay and met new friends. We hired the guide and ventured on many trails. Windy at night in February. Spectacular rainbows in late afternoon. Meals delicious and plentiful. Hosts kind, considerate.

We booked this based on trip advisor ratings and were not disappointed. The drive from Volcan necessitates a 4x4 as it's a rough track for about 45 minutes. But it means you will find yourself far from madding crowd. We stayed in the main lodge in a very comfortable suite on the first floor. The surroundings are everything we had...

If you are a birder, a hiker, a lepidopterist, a nature lover or just want to spend time in a comfortable lodge with a fantastic view you should consider Mount Totumas Cloud Forest. Located at an altitude of 6300 feet the local climate is surprisingly cool and comfortable for the tropics, with daytime highs in the low 70's and nighttime...

This resort is embedded in my mind as one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I ever visited in my quest to go to every country where there are hummingbirds. They clearly delivered on the hummingbirds. Jeffery and crew recently set up a perfect perch and feeder area on the back porch of the hostel cabin I was mesmerized...

I have mixed emotions about giving a review on this lodge, part of me feels it is important to give fellow travelers' a heads up, the other part wants to keep this find a secret so that it stays unspoiled. I will share, and leave the "stays unspoiled" up to the owners. If you want remote and untouched Panama this...

We had an amazing time! We had a cabin which was fantastic, and ate meals at the lodge. The diversity of ecozones is incredible - huge variety of birds. We saw Quetzals, Bellbirds, and an Olinga! Of course we saw many many other birds including 14 different species of hummingbirds. The views were incredible and our hosts delightful. Jeffrey took...

They arranged everything!! Their driver picked us up at the Costa Rica - Panama border and drove us to the lodge. On the way we stopped at a grocery store for supplies (snack and lunch food). The same driver also drove us to the airport on our last morning, 5 days later. The last several km to the lodge are...

Mount Totumas has it all. Five-star accommodations for all budgets, both off-the-grid with hydroelectric power but also with all the amenities you can ask for including hot water showers, wifi internet, and 24-7 electricity. Every detail of this place is exquisite, but the real action is beyond the walls of the buildings: Jeff and Alma have created landscape that brings...

This lodge is very remote (and beautiful), and the trails are mostly steep. If you hire a driver to get you there (you REALLY need a 4WD), plan to spend about $200 round trip. The road is very rough, and passes through a stream. On very rare occasions, the stream is high and you need to wait to cross. In...

Staying at the Mount Totumas ecolodge was by far the highlight of our trip in Panama! We stayed at the hacienda lounge for 2 nights - the views were incredible, food was amazing, we saw spider monkeys and different bird species on our hike, and Jeffrey and his family were so accommodating! Would definitely recommend this place!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mount Totumas Cloud Forest is a 400 acre eco resort with private cabins and rooms located in a remote cloud forest wilderness bordering La Amistad National Park in western Panama. In 2014 we just completed the Bellbird Lodge perched on a ridge with views directly on to the canopy of the Cloud Forest. The lodge has a restaurant and 5 private rooms with bath and common area living area with large windows with stunning views into La Amistad National Park. Access to Mount Totumas Cloud Forest requires a 4WD vehicle and we provide transportation services from Volcan, David and Boquete for those guests that do not have their own 4WD vehicle. For guests with 2WD rental cars we provide a secure place to leave your vehicle in Volcan. There are 9 trails covering over 40km that provides access to 2nd growth and old growth forests, pastures, riparian and edge habitat. The Resplendent Quetzal, Three Wattled Bellbird and 200 other bird species have been recorded. Three species of monkeys and a great diversity of flora await you on the trails. We have accommodations that fit every budget from private rooms sharing kitchens where guests can prepare their own meals to exclusive cabins and full service restaurant. Great for families, birdwatchers, and those looking for a pristine natural environment. Climate is perfect for hiking, mornings are cool and mid day reaches warm but not hot temperatures. We are 1900m above sea level and border directly La Amistad National Park. ... more   less
