I cannot praise this place enough. We had chosen Holua based on sleeping arrangements for our family of 6 for the money. We needed a property with a separate bed for our daughter and this property offered a king, two singles, and a pull out...More
We arrived at 2 pm, we were told our room had "maintenance issues" and expedia (hotels.com) is supposed to find a room somewhere else. After 2 hours (while many other customers could check-in...) the front desk of the holua told us they found a room...More

hi we are Australian so also not used to driving on the "wrong"side. We rented a car from Alamo they have a shuttle service from the airport to their office 5 mins. The prices were reasonable and we stayed on the island for a week. We used the car to visit the volcano area where we stayed for a few days before staying in kona.
My husband got used to the driving quite quickly especially with me nagging from the passenger seat. The Big Island is fascinating and diverse so great to have a car. ( unless you just want to sit on the beach or by the pool and relax)
