Unique blend of comfortable accommodation and superb food, set within extensive grounds, with views over verdant rolling countryside. Excellent large swimming pool with more than adequate sun loungers etc. Host made a special effort on our last morning at breakfast to check we had enjoyed our visit. Would highly recommend.

The place is just exquisite, the ambiance, the amenities, the views, the calm. Fantastic room, good bed, nice bathroom. A very special breakfast and the most accommodating host you can wish for. All in all a place to come back and back again.

This is a review for the restaurant, not the hotel. We had dinner at the Chartreuse restaurant earlier this month. We were a party of 8, two of whom were vegetarian. I can honestly say it was one of the best vegetarian meals I have ever eaten in France - beautifully presented and utterly delicious. My hearty congratulations to the chef. It is so encouraging that restaurants in France are finally beginning to embrace the concept of vegetarianism, and they could learn a lot from the Chartreuse.

The building is called a chartreuse. It has been lovingly restaured and you will enjoy its setting and privacy. The Mayor of Saint Nexans is the owner, he will make sure you have a wonderful stay. Dinner is top quality, as is breakfast.

Enjoy the fine features of this historic building and marvel at the care and attention to the gardens around the manicured estate. Spacious accommodation with many stylish features and lovely comforts.
Strange, sit-down interrogation on arrival about breakfast requirements. A couple of requests for service went unresolved but overall, a memorable and charming stay.

Michelin friend recommended this restaurant. Good value top end experience. Almost half the price of our local Chateau Vigiers Les a Fresques Michelin star restaurant. A must visit. South of Bergerac. Beautiful Chateau & surroundings. Go on treat yourself! Recommend white wine Chateau de la Jabertie mirabelle! Exceptional.

The staff was very nice. The rooms are cosy, but the bathrooms are a bit outdated although perfectly clean. The view from the dinner tables is incredible, and the food outstanding. There is also a very nice garden for the children. Recommended!

We returned recently from a 4 day stay at the Chartreuse du Bignac. The chateau is undoubtedly in a picturesque setting and the grounds are well maintained and the environment is calm and relaxing.

However there were several major disappointments which include the restaurant and the quality of the food, the bedroom and the hospitality of the owners. The restaurant is small and on the night we dined had just 6 covers, which was a little too intimate for our liking. More importantly the food was poor. The langoustine starter had a horrid mountain of langoustine foam and the overall dish had no coherence and was vile. The duck was so rare that is could have been resuscitated and the sweetbreads were accompanied by two mounds of green mush. The breakfast was no better and the food was rationed so for six guests, six portions were set out – rather mean at 23 euros per person. The scrambled eggs could have been used as an ice hockey puck. As an alternative we would recommend L’Etoile at Saint-Nexans with good local food and a warm welcome.

The bedroom was ok but not spectacular with a great outlook onto the garden but the walls were paper thin and sounds travelled through from the adjacent rooms. The beds were narrow and hard.

Finally, we felt that Jean Louis, the owner, was standoffish and not especially welcoming.

The owners must have been hurting for money, because they seem to have no concern that my wife being pregnant had to have something to eat, and the only thing they had to offer was a $60 meal per person. They finally suggested a smaller meal for the two of us for 30 euro which was very nice of them, but it did take some arguing before this happened. They suggested that it might be better if we stayed somewhere in Bordeaux to get us closer to sites of interest. The next day we took their advise and found a really nice small hotel. The cancellation was discussed and the owner said that everything would be taken care of. Upon our return to the States our Travel Agent sends us an email stating that the owner decided that he would not refund the money paid on the room which was not used. The place was desolate in the middle of nowhere. The owners were not very helpful or curteous. The home appeared to have been beautiful, before they stripped out everything that was original. All of the additions actually made the place a little drab and normal.
