April 30, 2016--I just talked with Gary (the owner) last night and he told me the hostel closed in late 2014 and that there are no currently available hostels in Skagway. What a sad loss for Alaska. I have stayed there twice and he and his wife Janilyn were great hosts.

My dad and I were the only ones staying there early in the season. The owners were welcoming and invited us to watch a movie with them, then spent quite a while chatting in the morning. They let us use the kitchen to make dinner. We stayed in a tiny cabin with a comfortable bed.

We were six female hikers and had an excellent time at the Alaskan Sojourn. Extremely friendly and accommodating host. The accommodations were wonderful, clean and comfortable. Four of us were upstairs in a small bunk room with a bathroom right outside our door. It's location is perfect; within walking distance to town, laundry, etc. No WiFi but right down the...

Wonderful stay with Janilyn and Gary! It's not really a hostel in the traditional sense, feeling more like a bed and breakfast with bunk beds and no breakfast. Pros: Super clean, relaxed environment, friendly staff, great price, good location, nice patio and sitting area. Cons: Nothing really, except it would be nice to have lockers available somewhere They also have...

Host very friendly and helpful! She always writes welcoming notes when you arrive 2am in the morning. The host shares her bathroom and kitchen with guests! Lovely place to meet other travelers! Very central to the shops in town! Would like a lock for my room please!

This hostel is really recommandable! The hosts Janilyn and Gary are very friendly and open-minded, yet calm enough to give you a perfect rest at their home! Rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, garden - everything was clean and tidy, equipped with everything necessary (and actually even more). If I ever came back to Skagway, I'd choose to stay with these nice people...

Janilyn and Gary were great hosts. The place was awesome. Can't say it better. It's the best hostel I've ever stayed in, and I've stayed in a lot over the last thirty years. it's close to hiking trails, the dock, the airport and the train.

The Alaska Sojourn Hostel lives up to all its praise. Gary and Janilyn are welcoming, kind, informative and interesting. Our group of six felt instantly at ease. They have set up the hostel with everything you need to make yourself at home. It is clean, safe and convenient to everything in Skagway. Their recommendations for places to eat and things...

I have done my fair share of travel and stayed at plenty of hostels - I can say that without a doubt this is one of the best that I have ever stayed at. It is not your typical hostel - as others have commented, it does feel like a home away from home. Janilyn and Gary make you feel...
