Nestled in a prime spot near Pike Place Market, the Thompson Seattle garners praise for its location and captivating views. However, guests have called out that the hotel's amenities, including rooftop access, may fall short of expectations. While the modern decor receives compliments for style, the atmosphere is met with mixed feelings due to noise and a sometimes underwhelming ambiance. Room sizes and quality are inconsistent, with some facing noise, cleanliness, and temperature issues. Although the service is generally seen as friendly, reports of delays and operational hiccups surface occasionally. Travelers also voice concerns over value, citing unexpected fees and a discrepancy between cost and experience.

We stayed at The Thompson for a 4-day weekend! What a beautiful hotel and the service was phenomenal. The location is fantastic. Near all the waterfront, Pike Public Market. The food in the hotel restaurants was generous and delicious. The beds are so comfortable and the pillows are the best I have ever had at a hotel. I highly recommend this hotel for business and pleasure.

The Thompson gets it all right. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated with nice quality soft bed linens, pillows and medium firm bed. But the best is the in-room coffee. There great Victrola bags with an lovely pour over electric kettle, so even when you are up early due to time zone shift, you can have a nice cup in your room. Bath products smell wonderful and don’t make you sneeze. The shower is nice and big with a rain head and is quick to heat up. The gym is small but outfitted with all you need, including a Peloton, kettle balls, treadmills. The location is excellent as you’re in walking distance of many shops, restaurants and Pike Place market is right across the street. I found it super convenient to get to business meetings as well as after-work outings. This trip I also checked out The Seattle Art Museum which was an easy ten minute walk from the hotel. It is a phenomenal museum - highly recommend. Everyone at the Thompson is very nice too. I did eat at Comversations. The cocktails are great and food presentation solid, but it was on the salty side. I would not eat there again because of this. The service however was prompt and knowledgeable and the dining room is lovely as you look out right onto 1st Avenue.

Thank you to the staff at the hotel for keeping us safe while traveling during the pandemic.

Our room had been serviced two days prior to arrival and the door was sealed with a sticker and date of inspection. The coffee tray station was sealed in a plastic protector and the mini bar fridge and drawer were also sealed with inspection sticker. I just couldn't find the price listing for the wide selection of items available for purchase. Hope they weren't free because I missed out on having some of the best goodies stocked in the fridge.

The hotel had understandably limited services but this didn't stop us from enjoying the hotel. We brought our own food/drinks to the Nest on the roof top to enjoy stunning sunrise and sunset overlooking Pikes Market.

Service was nice and I appreciated the water upon arrival at the hotel. Valet was a pricy but expected and on par with surrounding hotel prices. They also did not have an overnight valet to call the car from 11pm-7am and I appreciate how they were clear on how to access the car if we needed the car during those hours.

Location is excellent for anyone wanting to explore Pikes Market.

Definitely recommend this hotel as a top stay!

Wonderful service but loud at night, rooms on the small side. Very stiff bed, that took some getting used to. If you don’t have an eye cover and earplugs you’ll be woken up throughout the night.

The rooftop bar is nice but attracts crowds of people on the weekends, soon one of the 2 elevators was broken and the one that remained reeked of alcohol, vomit, and cigarettes, and rarely came in under 10-15 minutes after calling.

Room I stayed in had a King Size bed and that was about it. Desk was laughably small. tv was nice but right in your face if you sat at your desk.

Exercise room was very nice, treadmills, and weights and an exercise bike, and a weight machine, nice cold towels and water at hand.

but no cleaning supplies were offered to wipe down a machine after use.

TLDR: if you can afford the Thompson, you can afford the 4seasons or a nice room at the Westin, both vastly superior experiences.

We stayed in room 503. Small room with a king bed over looking courtyard and into apartments which are relatively close. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The best thing about the room was the bathroom ~ shinning black tiles floor and half of wall // shiny white tiles half of wall to ceiling ~ it is pretty. Though the barn style door coupled with floor to ceiling tiles, amplifies bathroom sounds.

The Thompson is steps away from Pike Place Market and a four minute walk to West Lake Center (if you need to get to a game) and shopping. Research where you plan to eat, the restaurant in the Thompson has decent food but I feel it is over priced. (If you failed to plan and you like sushi go to Japonessa Sushi Cocina ~ it's easy and maybe two blocks south.)

The Thompson is in the Hyatt Family it's a much nicer stay and location than the Motif and they have valet parking.

Don’t bother with this one. For the rates you’re better off at Hotel 1000 or Four Seasons. Don’t be fooled this is a Kimpton with a great view but not luxury as the price would imply. My room had cheap vinyl wood like floors and NO SOUND PROOFING. I could hear every word my neighbor spoke and he wasn’t shouting. The beds (as in all Kimptons) are hard and lumpy. Not comfortable. In this era of mattress disrupters you’d think they could strike a deal with Tempurpedic, Casper, Tuft & Needle, etc. The rooms with water views do have breathtaking views. That is all you are paying for. Front desk staff made feeble attempts to rectify but the attitude was tepid and insincere. The Art of Hospitality lost here. They sent me a fan for white noise. They know it’s a problem. Be warned - a parking deck converted into hotel, where they spared no opportunity to value engineer and use cheap building methods - means it’s all smoke and mirrors folks. (also the hallways are a depressing institutional brown/gray color devoid of artwork. Felt like a prison) Also coffee is lobby is subpar for a town like Seattle. Do better!

Hi 151erikap, After reading your review I think there may be some disconnection. We are not a Kimpton brand. Our beds are the Sealy Posturepedic beds we have in all of our rooms. The building was a ground-up build and we didn't convert anything from a parking garage. In regards to the service, I absolutely will be looking into the manner in how our team responds and empathizes with our guests as we realize we aren't perfect but we need to ensure we understand the point of view of our guests and react and provide solutions accordingly. Have a fantastic 2020!

This is a very cool hotel right in the heart of downtown Seattle, a block from Pikes Place Market, numerous variety of wonderful restaurants , and Puget Sound. The area is walkable to do many attractions - it’s ideally in a location with something to do for anyone and everyone. The staff is smooth, organized and well informed - there is a cool bar/restaurant in the hotel which was pretty good but pricey in terms of cocktails. Can’t wait to stay at this hotel again soon! Thanks you Also to the great doormen and valets!

I heard lot of great things about the Thompson Seattle from friends and decided to find out for myself (even as a Westin Gold member). Booked a room to celebrate an anniversary. Valet parking, other than street parking, is the only parking available. Being a weekend, you are better off trying to find street parking which is free on Sundays.

At first there was trouble with the room. Seemed like the door had malfunctioned minutes after we had just arrived which Engineering eventually could not solve. We decided to grab a bite to eat until this was resolved, and upon our return the front desk had upgraded us to a superior room since the original room could not be repaired. They even rushed to the market to purchase the last bouquet of flowers available that afternoon in order to make our weekend even more special. Thanks Drew! :)

The corner room was large, beautiful and had a spectacular view of Puget Sound, Pike Place Market, the Wheel, and the ferries shuttling to and from the terminal. The one bedroom had 1.5 bathrooms, a giant shower with a rain showerhead, dual sinks, and a free standing bathtub. There was a comfortable retro couch with two accent chairs in the living room, two HDTVs, a small round table that sits four, office desk, small full fridge, coffee machine (wrapped for sanitation), and even a telescope.

Centrally located, there were plenty of dinner and breakfast places within walking distance to choose from. Moore coffee shop is available right outside the front door. Obviously the #1 Seattle tourist destination (Pike Place Market) is across the street which is great if you are from out of town.

Unfortunately the iconic rooftop bar, The Nest, had just closed that weekend for the season. We will just need to try to go here next summer. Reservations can be made online in advance.

Overall, the Thompson Seattle service was exceptional. The hotel might have missed the first pitch, but cracked the game winning homerun afterwards. Thanks for making our anniversary truly special.

My husband & I stayed for 4 nights in Sept 2020, and we were told the room would not be cleaned during those 5 days due to covid restrictions. We did not realize this before booking and feel like it was not advertised.

Bathroom has just a sliding door, so there is no sound barrier... which is lacking in privacy in my opinion. Bathroom lighting was ok, not great for applying makeup. Rainfall shower had good water pressure.

The room was mostly quiet (we were on the 7th floor), except our last night when we were woken up at 5am due to garbage trucks outside. They were loud, sounded initially like a construction site. Best part of the hotel was its location, right next to Pike Place Market.

Overall, it was clean & staff was nice. We would probably stay here again if push came to shove, but it would not be our first choice.

We stayed only for one night and everyone starting from the front desk to the valet staff were very friendly and informative. Despite the current situation and a lot of businesses closed the front desk/concierge provided us with good dining and attractions recommendations. They even informed us of what areas to avoid and where to walk safely at night. The location is ideal, close to everything.
Kudos to the housekeeping and operations team. They really did a great job following all the new guidelines of cleanliness and protocols due to the pandemic. Room was impeccable and clearly disinfected. Bed and pillows were very comfy. Sanitizer dispensers were easily found in public spaces and all staff were wearing a mask at all times. So thank you!! Unfortunately, not all guests were following the new standard mostly in hallways and elevators.
Definitely will be returning!

What rooms have soaking tubs so i know which to book?
Answer from benjlar
Hi arob390, If you would like a large soaking tub I recommend booking the Thompson Suite as it has a very large tub that is separate from the shower. In our city view deluxe 2 queen, water view deluxe 2 queen, and other suites they do have a tub but they are the standard size and not as deep as the ones in the Thompson Suites.
